Lost forever
Most people have heard about Didus ineptus, or the dodo, as it is more commonly known. It was the flightless, long-extinct（灭绝的）member of the dove family that lived in the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. The name “dodo” comes from the Portuguese and means “a person who is foolish”; 31 , to call someone a “dodo” 32 their stupidity. The dodo was a foolish creature about the size of a turkey and was easily fooled by sailors who tapped on trees to 33 its attention. It would come 34 towards the sound and was easily caught and whisked on board ship to become a valuable source of fresh, but tough meat．

Size and shape may not be the answer either．Scientists measured these old violins very carefully．They can make new ones that are exactly the same size and shape．But the new violins still do not sound as good as the old one．Some scientists think the secret may be the varnish, which covers the wood of the violin and makes it look shiny．It also helps the sound of the instrument．No one knows what the Italian violin makers used in their varnish．So no one can make the same varnish today．

He, quickly, gathered up his camping gear, a jar of peanut butter, a loaf of bread, a bottle of water, and this time...his schoolbooks. Grim faced and determined, he headed for the woods.

Obviously puzzled, she began to look it over. Steve walked back to his desk, his heart pounding within his chest. As he sat down, he couldn’t resist another look at the lovely woman.
Miss White’s face was in total shock! She glanced up at Steve, then down, then up. Suddenly, her face broke into a radiant smile. The smartest boy in the seventh grade had just passed his first test!
From that moment nothing was the same for Steve. Life at home remained the same, but life still changed. He discovered that not only could he learn, but he was good at it!
He discovered that he could understand and retain knowledge, and that he could translate the things he learned into his own life. Steve began to excel! And he continued this course throughout his school life.
After high-school Steve enlisted in the Navy, and he had a successful military career. Modern society cannot well do without the contribution that women can make in the professions and other kinds of work.
