We believe that there is more to education than preparation for a job. Children must be prepared for all aspects of their adult life such as work, leisure, personal relationships, creative activities, coping with money matters, independence, parenthood and so on.
Nevertheless, it would be unrealistic to provide an education which took no account of the needs of employers.
What type of training does the business world regard as important?
Many young people applying for jobs were, in the employer’s opinions, very weak in the basic skills of handwriting, grammar and spelling. Though additional education at university level improved the students general ability, a report states,“In basic skills the standards remained stubbornly low.”
It is debatable(有争议的)whether standards have declined(减弱)in recent years. What is certain is that employers do not believe the standard is now high enough. Do technological changes make greater demands upon the student’s abilities?
We should also remember that the job expectations (展望) of young people have increased. The girls who would have once become shop assistants or hairdressers now want to be secretaries. Boys who sought an apprenticeship(学徒)20 years ago now desire to an engineering degree. But it is still the same girls and boys with the same degree of ability. No wonder there are problems in reaching the “necessary standards” of the business world.
Many employers believed that it was important for teachers to have experience outside the world of college and school. They should work for a while at some other kind of job “to see how the world of business and commerce differs from their own”.The teaching profession and society in general needed a greater understanding of manpower needs and therefore of “the desired” direction of the education system.

We live in a digital world now, and a student's technology needs have changed. For the early years, say when you are in primary school, you can get by with no technology at all. Even if you have a computer, it's a good idea to get children familiar with libraries. At this age, trips to the library are like family outings.
As you get closer to middle school, a computer with Internet access becomes more of a necessity. Teachers will often give assignments that require a student to use the Internet for research. After a computer, technology choices for students become more difficult to make – especially when it comes to cell-phones. Kids will beg their parents for a cell-phone, especially in middle school. For many parents, it's a safety issue: They want to know that their kids can reach them quickly if necessary. For teachers, cell phones can be used to record lessons when students are absent. But many teachers dislike cell-phones. Some kids send messages or have talks in the class. Sending messages also raises the problem of cheating on exams. More and more schools are now forbidding the use of cell-phones.
Many kids see iPods as necessary things to have. iPods are great for music, but do they do anything good for your children’s education? Maybe they do. That’s the opinion of Doug Johnson, an educator for 30 years. Johnson says that educators should accept all new forms of technology in the classroom, including iPods. “Some do more with their cell- phones than we can do with our laptops,” he jokes. “I don’t think we should be afraid. The truth is that it’s easier to change the way we teach than to change the technology habits of an entire generation.”

A. cell-phones can be used to cheat on exams

We all know that certain oils are healthier than others, but your oil health goes beyond just the type. The health of your oil can be related to how you use it too. Each type of oil has what is called a "smoke point". The smoke point is the specific temperature at which the oil starts to break down,or in more technical terms, its molecular structure begins to change. These molecular changes result in changes in flavor,as well as changes in nutritional value-specifically, the nutritional value of the oil starts to reduce, changing what once may have been considered an especially healthy oil, like olive, into one that is unhealthy. The higher an oil's smoke point is,the higher the temperature of the oil can be.As a result, each type of oil should be used for the cooking method that is most appropriate to its individual smoke point and heat tolerance. Here is a quick guide for the next time you reach for your favorite oil.
Refined oils tend to have much higher smoke points than when they are unrefined. They also differ in nutrition and flavor.Unrefined oils are more nutritious and they tend to be much richer in flavor. When it comes to extremely high heat cooking, always choose oils which are refined. 1. What determines whether an oil is healthy or not? A. Whether it's refined or not. B. Its smoke point. C. Its molecule. D. How you use it. 2. Which of the following might be a better choice to make a healthy salad? A. Refined walnut oil. B. Safflower oil. C. Unrefined olive oil. D. Sunflower oil. 3.
