    Mistakes make walking possible for the smallest toddler，make speech possible，make works of genius possible．
    Think about how we learn：we don't just consume information about something and instantly know it or know how to do it．You don't just read about painting，or writing，or computer programming，or baking，or playing the piano，and know how to do them right away．Instead，you get information about something，from reading or from another person or from observing，then you make mistakes and repeat，making mistakes，learning from those mistakes，until you've pretty much learned how to do something．That's how we learn as babies and toddlers，and how we learn as adults．Mistakes are how we learn to do something new-because if you succeed at something，it's probably something you already knew how to do．You haven't really grown much from that success-at most it's the last step on your journey，not the whole journey．Most of the journey was made up of mistakes，if it's a good journey．
    So if you value learning，if you value growing and improving，then you should value mistakes．They are amazing things that make a world of brilliance possible．

    6．Teachers and parents usually call attention to the pictures when they read storybooks to preschool child．But a new study suggests that calling attention to the words and letters on the page may lead to better readers．
    The two-year study compared children who were read in this way in class with children who were not．Those whose teachers most often discussed the print showed clearly higher skills in reading，spelling and understanding．These results were found one year and even two years later．
     Shayne Piasta，an assistant professor of teaching and learning at Ohio State University，was a n author of the study．She says most preschool teachers would find this method manageable and would need only a small change in the way they teach．They already read story-books in class．The only diff erence would be increased attention to the printed text．"If you get children to pay attention to letters and words，it makes sense that they will do better at word recognition and spelling．"But she says research suggests that very few parents and teachers do this in a systematic way．
       More than 300 children aged four and five were observed in classrooms．They came from poor families and were below average in their language skills．For thirty weeks，the children took part in a program called Project STAR-Sit Together and Read．The project is based in Ohio State．It tests the short-term and long-term results of reading regularly to preschool children in their classrooms．
        There are different ways that adults can talk to children about print．They can point to a letter and discuss it，and even trace the shape with a finger．They can point out a word and discuss the meaning of the print or how the words tell the story．And they can talk about the organization of the print--for instance，showing how words are written left to right in English．

    20．Researchers at the University of Kansas say that people can accurately judge 90percent of a stranger's personality simply by looking at the person's shoes．
    "Shoes convey a thin but useful slice of information about their wearers，"the authors wrote in the new study published in the Journal of Research in Personality．"Shoes serve a practical purpose，and also serve as nonverbal indications with symbolic messages．People tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear．"

    Lead researcher Omri Gillath said the judgments were based on the style，cost，color and condition of someone's shoes．In the study，63University of Kansas students looked at pictures showing 208different pairs of shoes worn by the study's participants．Volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes，and then filled out a personality questionnaire．
    So，what do your shoes say about your personality？
    Some of the results were expected：People with higher incomes most commonly wore expensive shoes，and flashier footwear was typically worn by extroverts（外向者）．
    However，some of the more specific results are interesting．For example，"practical and functional"shoes were generally worn by more"agreeable"people，while ankle boots were more closely aligned with"aggressive"personalities．
    The strangest of all may be that those who wore"uncomfortable looking"shoes tend to have"calm"personalities．
    And if you have several pairs of new shoes or take eexceptional care of them，you may suffer from"attachment anxiety"，spending a large amount of time worrying about what other people think of your appearance．There was even a political calculation in the mix with more liberal types wearing"shabbier and less expensive"shoes．
