【题目】According to a team of researchers, an animals' ability to perceive(感知)time is linked to their pace of life.

"Our results lend support to the importance of time perception in animals where the ability to

perceive time in a very short time may be the difference between life and death for fast moving

creatures." commented lead author Kevin Healy from Trinity College Dublin.

The study was done with a variety of animals using a phenomenon based on the maximum speed of flashes of light an individual can see before the light source is seen as constant. Dogs, for example, have eyes with a refresh rate higher than humans.

One example of this phenomenon at work, the authors say, is the housefly and its ability to avoid being hit. The research showed flies "observe motion in a shorter time than our own eyes can achieve," which allows them to avoid being hit.

Professor Graeme Ruxton of the University of St Andrews in Scotland, who worked jointly(共同地) on the research project, said in a statement, "Having eyes that send updates to the brain at much higher frequencies than our eyes do is of no value if the brain cannot process that information equally quickly. Thus, this work highlights the impressive abilities of even the smallest animal brains. Flies might not be deep thinkers, but they can make good decisions very quickly."

In comparison the tiger beetle(虎甲虫)runs faster than its eyes can keep up, basically becoming blind, which requires it to stop periodically to re-evaluate its prey's(猎物)position.

Our results suggest that time perception offers an as yet unstudied dimension along which

animals can specialize and there is considerable range to study this system in more detail.

1What is the research mentioned in the passage mainly about?

A. Pace of life of animals. B. Time perception of animals.

C. Lifetime of small animals. D. Impressive abilities of animals.

2Why can houseflies avoid being hit?

A. They can think very deeply before they act.

B. They can fly much faster than their eyes can keep up.

C. They can process the information as quickly as they receive it.

D. They can send information to brain more quickly than to their eyes.

3What will a tiger beetle have to do to catch a moving prey?

A. Try to run as fast as it can. B. Prevent itself from becoming blind.

C. Slow down to gain its time perception. D. Stop occasionally to spot the prey again.

【题目】阅读理解
A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington, DC. I saw many of our nation's treasures, and I also saw a lot of citizens on the street—unfortunate ones, like beggars and homeless folks.
Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice ask. “Can you help me?” When I turned around, I saw an old blind woman with her hand extended. In a natural reflex (自然反射), I reached into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose change and placed it in her hand without even looking at her. I hated being disturbed by a beggar.
But the blind woman smiled and said: “I don't want your money. I just need help finding the post office.” In an instant, I realized what I had done. I had acted with prejudice (偏见)---I had judged another person simply for what I thought she had to be.
I hated what I saw in myself. This incident brought back my central belief. It reminded me that I believed in being humble (卑下的), even though I'd lost that belief for a moment.
The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant (移民). I left Honduras and arrived in the US at the age of 15. I started my new life with two suitcases, my brother, my sister and a strong mother. Through the years, I have been a dish washer, roofer, mechanic, cashier and pizza delivery driver, among many other humble jobs. Eventually, I became a network engineer.
In my own life, I have experienced many acts of prejudice. I remember a time at age 17---I was busboy (餐馆工), and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well in school, he would end up like me. I have also seen the same treatment of family and friends, so I know what it's like, and I should have known better.
But now, living my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to go. The blind woman cured me of my blindness. She reminded me of my belief in being humble, and to always keep my eyes and heart open.
By the way, I helped that lady to the post office. And in writing this essay, I hope to thank her for the priceless lesson she gave me.
(1)At the very beginning, the author regarded the old blind woman as .
A.a great teacher
B.a poor beggar
C.a humble immigrant
D.a passer-by asking for help
(2)How did the author feel when the old woman asked him for directions?
A.Concerned.
B.Confused.
C.Amused.
D.Ashamed.
(3)What is the lesson that the author learned from the old woman?
A.Help but don't judge.
B.Efforts will pay off.
C.Stay humble, stay happy.
D.Kindness is well rewarded.

【题目】About three decades ago, China was known as the “Bicycle Kingdom”. But the two-wheeled way of transport’s popularity began to fade, with many bikes soon replaced by their fuel-powered competitors.

But recent months have seen a revival of the bike across China, with an increasing number of people choosing cycling instead of driving to schools, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing systems has brought the trend to a new level.

People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smartphones. The bikes are equipped with GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They’re popular among many Chinese people as they provide an effective solution to the “last mile” problem, which refers to the final leg of a person’s journey.

However, the systems have also led to problems such as illegal parking, damage and theft. Last month, two nurses in Beijing were placed under arest for five days for putting locks on two shared bikes.

“Bike-sharing is a greener method of transportation and provides a user-friendly experience,” said Liu Xiaoming, vice-minister of transport. “ But it’s a combination of online and offline business. Operators are usually strong in online services, but lack offline business experience, which causes problems.”

Now, Chinese service operators are trying to handle these problems. For example, a bike-sharing company called Mobike sets a 100-piont credit score for each user, with points taken in the case of bad behavior. Once a score drops below 80, bike rental is increased to 100 yuan per 30 minutes, up from 0.5-1 yuan.

1The underlined word “revival” in paragraph 2 probably means ________.

A. survival B. recovery

C. existence D. popularity

2The bike-sharing systems are popular because ________.

A. they are very effective B. they can be picked up anywhere

C. they are equipped with GPS D. they help to solve the “last mile” problem

3To solve the problems of illegal parking, damage and theft, operators need to ________.

A. offer stronger online services B. combine online and offline business

C. provide credit score for users D. obtain more offline business experience
