A woman was caught trying to get her boyfriend out of Puente Ayala prison by packing him in a large suitcase. They almost got away with it, but guards became suspicious after seeing the woman struggling with the suitcase.
25-year-old Souda arrived at the Puente Ayala prison in Barcelona, Venezuela, last week, to visit her boyfriend, Jose Antonio, who was serving a sentence of 9 years and 8 months for stealing cars. She had brought their six-year-old daughter and a large pink suitcase, which is common for an overnight stay by family members in South American prison. Little did the guards know that Souda and Jose Antoni were planning to leave the prison together the next day, as a big happy family.
Their plan seemed to go smoothly as the woman carrying the bright pink baggage didn’t attract the guards’ attention, but it failed when they finally noticed the short woman struggling to pull the seemingly light suitcase out of the door. They stopped Souda and asked her to open the suitcase so they could check its items. Left with no choice but to meet the guards’ demand, the woman opened the suitcase to show young Jose Antonio looking professional contortionist (专业柔术演员)and covered with different clothing items.
Puente Ayala guards sent the car thief back to the prison. Souda has been caught by guards and is waiting for official charges, and the couple’s six-year-old daughter? Mary, been placed in the care of social services.

More than half of American teenagers and young adults volunteered last year, and the best way to join in this group turns out to be peer pressure: Three quarters of people ages 13 to 22 whose friends volunteer regularly also do so, which is nearly twice the number of those who participate in voluntary activities based on their concern about particular social
problems. Those were the key findings of new research results published by DoSomething. org, a group working to get young people involved in social change. "
The study, based on data from 4, 363 young people, found that the most common form of support by volunteers was assistance with fundraising. 38 percent of those in the survey said they helped with solicitations (募捐),leading the study's authors to conclude: "Young people are a secret weapon. A persuasive donation speech from an enthusiastic teen is a way more influential than a cold call or that newsletter you were thinking about sending."
The study also found a gender (性另ij) divide in volunteer activities. Boys were more likely to undertake physical activities such as environmental cleanup or working with younger children in sports, while girls were more likely to help the homeless and other needy people or to work with arts groups.
The researchers say the responses to the survey pointed out many ways that nonprofits can do a better job of getting young people to volunteer. Among their suggestions:
Offer ways to socialize. The very first thing that many young people think of in choosing volunteer activities is having a chance to interact with friends, especially those of the opposite sex.
"Think of volunteering like a high-school party," the researchers write. "Volunteering, like everything else, is about joining in, making friends, and having a good time."

A. what a research about voluntary activities finds out

D. where most young volunteers would like to work
2.Most young people are likely to take part in voluntary activities because _____.
A. they are concerned about particular social problems
B. their friends of the same age volunteer
C. they want to influence more people to volunteer
D. their assistance can help those in need
3.At the end of the passage, the writer would probably continue to list _____.
A. more ways for young people to socialize
B. more reasons to get young people to volunteer
C. more tips on getting young people involved in volunteering
D. more differences between different genders in volunteering

More than seven hundred years ago, the Prince of Wales had a very big and brave dog called Gelert. One day the Prince wanted to go hunting with his men. He told his dog to stay at home and look after his baby son. The baby was in a wooden cradle(摇篮), which was like a small bed. When the Prince came back from hunting, Gelert ran out to meet his master. He wagged(摇摆) his tail and jumped up to put his paws on the Prince’s chest. The clothes were torn and there was blood on them. “So you have killed my son?” the Prince said angrily. “You unfaithful dog!” He took out his sword and killed the dog. Chinese archeologists were therefore surprised in the 1990s to find the remains of an ancient fortification (筑城) in Liqian,a remote town in Yongchang county on the edge of a desert area, which was strikingly similar to Roman defense structures.
They were even more astonished to find West?ern?looking people with green, deep?set eyes, long hooked noses and blond hair.
Though the villagers said they had never traveled outside the county, they worshipped bulls and their favorite game was similar to the ancient Romans' bull?fighting dance.
DNA tests in 2005 confirmed some of the villagers were indeed of Caucasian origin, leading many experts to conclude they are descendants of an ancient Roman army headed by general Marcus Crassus.
“The‘foreign’origin of the Yongchang villagers,as proven by the DNA tests, does not necessarily mean they are of ancient Roman origin.”
Xie Xiaodong,a geneticist from Lanzhou University, also sounded a skeptical note.
“Even if they are descendants of Romans,it doesn't mean they are necessarily from that Roman army,” Xie said.
Their mysterious identity has brought wealth and fame to some of the villagers.
Cai Junnian has yellow wavy hair,a hooked nose and green eyes.A DNA test in 2005 confirmed he is of 56 percent European origin. It made him famous almost overnight.
Reporters, filmmakers, historians and geneticists from around the world pursued him.A Beijing film producer will spend millions to turn the villagers' story into a film.
Lanzhou University's new research body, set up this week by Chinese and Italian anthropologists,is a platform for experts to further research the subject but the research work will certainly be complicated.
The center will help Chinese learn Italian language and culture,he said.“More exchanges will certainly be helpful in unraveling the mystery.”
1.Scientists take DNA tests in order to ________.
A. explain why villagers have the Western?looking
B. explain why ancient Roman army disappeared
C. explain why villagers are infected with AIDS
D. explain why villagers married at an early age
2.Which is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Romans like bull?fighting dance.
B. The villagers are of ancient Roman origin.
C. The research work will be very complicated.
D. Cai Junnian's European origin makes him famous overnight.
3.What's the meaning of the underlined word“unraveling” in the last paragraph?
A. Keeping. B. Discovering.
C. Storing. D. Destroying.
4.Which of the following would be the BEST title for the passage?
A. Chinese Villagers Descended from Roman Soldiers
