    11．Once upon a time，in a beautiful mountain inn，there was a greedy old innkeeper who was always thinking about money．
    One day，a rich man stopped at the inn．The innkeeper looked at the guest's fat money belt and she thought，"Oh，if only all that money could be mine!"The rich man requested the most expensive room at the inn，and he went up to his room to dress for dinner．

    Soon，the rich man went down the stairs and requested dinner．The innkeeper could hardly contain her delight as she served him dish after dish of ginger buds．"Delicious!"said the rich man．When dinner was finished，he went to bed happy and full of ginger buds．
    In the morning，the innkeeper saw that the rich man off at the front door．As soon as he was out of sight，she raced up to his room．She looked all over the room for the money belt，but she couldn't find it．Suddenly，she noticed a piece of paper on the floor．It was the rich man's bill．He had forgotten to pay it!She ran down the stairs，out the front door，and up the road until she was out of breath，but the rich man was already far，far away．

    19．An emperor was almost eighty years old and knew it was time to choose his successor（接班人）．Instead of choosing one of his children，he decided on something different．He called all of the young people in the kingdom together one day．He said，"It is time for me to choose the next emperor．I have decided to choose one of you．"

    A year finally went by and all the youths brought their plants to the emperor．Ling thought he should be honest about what had happened．So he took his empty pot to the palace．When Ling arrived，he was amazed at the plants grown by other youths．They were beautiful，in all shapes and sizes．
    When the emperor arrived，he surveyed the room and greeted the young people．Ling just tried to hide in the back．Suddenly，the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot．He ordered his guards to bring him to the front．Ling was terrified．When Ling got to the front，the Emperor asked his name．"My name is Ling，"he replied．All the kids were laughing and making fun of him．The emperor asked everyone to quiet down．He looked at Ling，and then announced to the crowd，"Behold your new emperor!His name is Ling!"Then the emperor said，"One year ago today，I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow．

    6．Do you like shopping？Or does the thought of wandering round the shops fill you with terror？For some of us，shopping is an enjoyable way of spending our spare time and our money．For me．it's something I would rather avoid．Thank goodness for the Internet!It's more convenient to buy CDs，electrical items，even food，from the comfort of your sofa．But that's not the only reason：price is an important factor．We can buy goods and services cheaper online．But sometimes the problem is knowing what to buy．This has led to a type of shopping called"showrooming"．
    Showrooming is something I've done．I will go to a shop to see，touch and try out products but then go home and buy them online at a knock-down price．I'm not alone in doing this．Research by a company called Foolproof，found 24%of people showroomed while Christmas shopping in 2013．
    Amy Cashman，Head of Technology at TNS UK，says the reasons for this new shopping habit are that"people are lacking time，lacking money and they want security about the products they are buying．"She explains that consumers are not only shopping online at home but they are using the Internet in store or on their smartphones to shop around．
    But does this mean technology will kill shops？Certainly shops will change．They will have to offer more competitive prices or encourage people to buy more by giving in-store discounts or free girls．
    We mustn't forget that buying in a shop means you can get expert advice from the sales assistant and you can get good aftercare．It's good to speak to a real human rather than look at a faceless computer screen but at least by showrooming，you get the best of both worlds!
