Yesterday afternoon our school invites Professor Li from Beijing University to give us, Senior 3 students, report. Professor Li is engaged in psychology, whose report were about how to prepare the lessons scientifically for the National College Entrance Examination.

On his report he emphasized the importance of a good habit of study and rest. And meanwhile she replied to some questions from both teachers or students.

As for me, what Professor Li said is very much to the point. Recent, I have always been felt a headache, unable to concentrate on classes. In fact, I often stayed up very late to do plenty of exercises. Because of more sleep and rest, I couldn't take my lessons effectively. Thanks to Professor Li, I am getting to know that how to prepare well for the examination in future.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Will ¡¾1¡¿ matter if you don¡¯t take your breakfast? Some time ago a test ¡¾2¡¿ (give) in the United States. The test included people of different ¡¾3¡¿ (age) from 12 to 83. During the experiment, these people were given all kinds of breakfast, and sometimes they got ¡¾4¡¿ breakfast at all. Special tests were set up to see ¡¾5¡¿ well their bodies worked when they had eaten ¡¾6¡¿ certain kind of breakfast. The results show that if a person eats a proper breakfast, he or she will work with better effect ¡¾7¡¿ if he or she has no breakfast. This fact appears to be ¡¾8¡¿ (especial) true if a person works ¡¾9¡¿ his brain. For example, if a student eats fruit, eggs, bread and milk before going to school, he will learn more quickly and listen with ¡¾10¡¿ (much) attention in class.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remember less? If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.

In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.

In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information an the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (Îļþ¼Ð). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location (λÖÃ) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called ¡°transactive memory (½»»¥¼ÇÒä)¡±

According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn¡¯t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.

¡¾1¡¿The passage begins with two questions to ________.

A. introduce the main topic B. show the author¡¯s altitude

C. describe how to use the Interne D. explain how to store information

¡¾2¡¿What can we learn about the first experiment?

A. Sparrow¡¯s team typed the information into a computer.

B. The two groups remembered the information equally well.

C. The first group did not try to remember the formation.

D. The second group did not understand the information.

¡¾3¡¿In transactive memory, people ________.

A. keep the information in mind

B. change the quantity of information

C. organize information like a computer

D. remember how to find the information

¡¾4¡¿What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research?

A. We are using memory differently.

B. We are becoming more intelligent.

C. We have poorer memories than before.

D. We need a better way to access information.

Our modern world is founded on science and on technology too, which is the ___¡¾1¡¿___ (apply) of science to everyday affairs. Almost everything we do __¡¾2¡¿___ (depend) on our modern devices such as automobiles, record players and TV sets, and these ___¡¾3¡¿__ turn depend on scientific principles. Our future will depend on computers, robots, nuclear power and rockets ships, all of __¡¾4¡¿___ only make sense if we understand science.

If a person does not understand __¡¾5¡¿__ makes these things work, they might as well be magic. People without ___¡¾6¡¿__ understanding of science live in a world that makes no sense. They might say, ¡°So what? All I want to do is ___¡¾7¡¿___ (make) a living, have a family and look at the scenery¡±. They may find this is not so easy. Surely, it will be ___¡¾8¡¿____(increase) important, as the years pass, for people to understand science if they are going to be expected to help make ____¡¾9¡¿__ (intelligence) decisions about how to use science to save the world and not to destroy it.

That is __¡¾10¡¿ __ it is important to study science even if one is not going to be a scientist.
