Grammy nominated(格莱美奖提名)artist and globally admired DJ and Producer Paul van Dyk continues to lead the electronic music charts and appears at the highpoint of every Top DJ list across the globe.PvD,as his fans have nicknamed him,is currently ranked the World’s No.1 DJ by DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJs poll”for the second successive year.

PvD is well-known as one of the hardest working artists, with sold-out tours that cross each continent, headline spots at every major festival, and a hugely successful recording career. With over 3 million albums sold worldwide, van Dyk travels around the world over 16 times each year to sold out performances internationally.

Born in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, Paul van Dyk grew up in East Berlin.Because his community did not have a true club culture, Paul van Dyk listened to the radio where he discovered his passion for music that extended beyond Techno music-he wanted to create a different, more unique sound. In the early 1990’s Paul van Dyk was performing regularly at various clubs in Berlin before releasing his first album 45 RPM in 1994.But it was the release of his second album Seven Ways that put him into Top 100,followed by the release of his hit single “For An Angel,”which began to earn him praise across the globe.By the time Paul van Dyk released Out There & Back in 2000,it became clear that the Berlin-based musician had far more to offer than his signature club sets that had already defined him as one of the most influential DJs and producers of all time. His first mix CD Politics of Dancing was released in 2001,followed by Global in 2003-a DVD which illustrates his own experiences traveling the world.

TWENTY-FIVE years ago director Stephen Spielberg captured the hearts of Western audiences with his family classic, E.T.Now his Hong Kong director Stephen Chow is trying to do the same trick in China.

Chow's latest movie CJ7(《长江七号》),in cinemas now, is a heart-warming story about a poor migrant worker(外来务工者)and his son. When a strange alien enters their lives, father and son learn a lesson about the value of family.

Chow hopes his movie will help to make family films more popular in China.

Family films have been the main part of the Hollywood market for the last 40 years. They have given audiences movies like E.T., Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. However, there are few of these movies in China, where expensive history films are more popular.

A family film is not simply a children's movie. It is a film that is not only appropriate for children, but appeals to the whole family.

According to Raymound Zhou, a famous film critic, these films are rare in China because "very few families go to the cinema together".Because of this, there is little demand for movies that appeal to the whole family.

However, in the West, it is common for the family to sit down and watch a movie together.Tim Bridges, from London, says:"I love it at Christmas when I sit down and watch a movie with my family."

All family films contain similar messages about being honest; remaining positive and learning there is more to life than money.According to the American movie reviewer, Dave Johnson, this is because "When parents watch a movie, they want their children to be learning good values".

Just like when the alien in Spielberg's E.T.phones home to makes contact with his family, Chow will hope Chinese audiences are tuned in and ready to receive his family movie message.

C.

[ ]

A.

B.

Many parents don't let their children watch family films in the U.S.A.

C.

The Chinese don't like family films.

D.

[ ]

American schools are looking for ways to save money on bus transportation because of high fuel prices.More children may have to walk, ride their bikes or find other ways to get to school.

But, as another effect of the high prices, they may not have to go to school as often. Some schools, especially in rural areas, are changing to a four-day week. That means longer days instead of the traditional Monday through Friday schedule.

Beginning in the fall, students in the Maccray school district in Minnesota will be in school Tuesday through Friday. Each school day will be sixty-five minutes longer.

Superintendent.(教育厅长)Greg Schmidt says the district expects to save about sixty-five thousand dollars a year in transportation costs. The district has about seven hundred students living in an area of nine hundred square kilometers.

State officials have agreed to the plan for three years. They may change their minds before then if learning suffers. In Custer, South Dakota, students have been going to school Monday through Thursday since 1995.Superintendent Tim Creal says the change has saved an estimated(估计)one million dollars over just the past eight years.

But he sees other benefits, too.Students get more instructional time. And activities that used to prevent classes are now held on non-school days.

He says that in the future, the growth of online classes could make it possible to require even fewer days in school.High fuel prices are driving college students to take more online classes. And in some states, high school students can take them, too.

A four-day school week sounds like a great idea for students and teachers. But working parents may have to pay for child care for that fifth day.In agricultural areas, though, it can mean an extra day of helping on the family ranch.

In New Mexico, the first school district changes to a four-day week in 1974 because of the Arab oil boycott. Now, seventeen out of eighty-nine districts use it.

The Lake Arthur School District has just one hundred and sixty students.Lake Arthur used a four-day schedule for twelve years. But a few years ago it went back to five days.Michael Grossman heads the district. He says two studies there failed to show any real educational improvement using the four-day week. And he says not much instruction was taking place during the last hour of school, because teachers and students were too tired.

(1)

Which of the following is NOT the effect high fuel prices have on American schools?

[ ]

A.

It will take less time to go to school.

B.

More money will be spent on bus transportation.

C.

Walking or riding to school will be more popular.

D.

Alternative ways to get to school may be taken.

(2)

What is the attitude of state officials towards the four-day school week according to paragraph 5?

[ ]

A.

They are simply positive about its effect.

B.

They are ready to change it if teachers or students are against it.

C.

They are totally negative to it though it is passed.

D.

It has taken three years before they finally support it.

(3)

According to Michael Grossman, what is the disadvantage of the four-day schedule?

[ ]

A.

Students and teachers will have to work hard in class.

B.

Parents will have to pay more for child care.

C.

Teachers will get less pay for their work.

D.

Students benefit less in the last hour of class.

(4)

By comparing all the American schools that took a four-day schedule for a period of time, we know that ________

[ ]

A.

all the students give a warm welcome

B.

the plan cannot save as much money as expected

C.

there will be a long way to go for the schedule to be improved

D.

most schools will go back to the traditional schedule

Apple currently has four full-service Apple stores in the mainland, which receive the most traffic of any Apple stores in the world. The company otherwise relies on resellers to get its products into the market.

The new stores reflect Apple's confidence in rising demand for its products such as smart phones and tablet computers.Sales in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan helped boost(增长)the company's third-quarter results, newly appointed Chief Executive Tim Cook said in July.China revenue(收益)surged(激增)six-fold to about $3.8 billion during the three months ended June 25.

“This has been a substantial(重大)opportunity for Apple and I firmly believe that we're just scratching the surface right now,” Cook said at the time, referring to strong sales in China.“I see an incredible opportunity for Apple there.”
