It helps to choose the colors you plan to live with in your home with awareness of how different colors affect your emotional and physical states. Every color has a unique meaning, and this can significantly affect how you feel in a room.

Blue helps inspire a quiet meditative quality, and color therapy with blue has been found to reduce blood pressure. Blue is also useful to make one to sleep.

When many of us take a vacation, more than anything, we seek to relax. We spend long, lazy days on a beach chair or in a hammock(吊床). But too often, we return home, tired.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

In fact active vacations are often the most relaxing of all. We don’t expect you to take up jogging(慢跑), or climbing. Rather, we ask the sedentary(久坐的) vacations among you to spend two to four hours a day doing things, such as walking in the city street, going to a zoo or biking along the ocean.

These kinds of activities aren’t just good for your physical health. They improve your mental health, even your spiritual health. Here are some fresh ideas to make your vacations as pleasurable as they are active and healthy.

A walk at dawn or dusk helps keep you young. Try to make this a daily habit of life when you’re away from home, and you will guarantee yourself both physical and spiritual refreshment.

Don’t allow yourself to spend all your time sitting in front of water. Whether it is the ocean, a swimming pool, or a tree-lined lake, make sure you get into the water for swimming or games, or even walking. Merely standing in waist-high water is a good workout, thanks to the action of the water. And you’ll feel so much more active!

Many of us spend a large chunk of our vacation on the road, either getting to and from our destinations, or using the car for sightseeing. But no matter how beautiful the scenery is, great, memorable vacations don’t happen in a car seat. Frequently get out and stretch, walk, picnic, shop, visit, and have fun. It’s important for your health and energy, and it makes traveling a lot more active and interesting

The idea in the text is mainly to _______.

A. suggest ways to make vacations relaxing

B. suggest places for relaxing vacations

C. explain the reasons for having vacations

D. explain the relationship between vacations and health

Which of the following can be considered as a form of exercise?

A. Sitting by a lake.             B. Standing in water.

C. Staying in a car.        D. Enjoying beautiful scenery.

In the last paragraph, the author seems to advise us to _______.

A. have vacations frequently         B. get out of the car frequently

In the modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity (繁荣). Others say that competition is bad, that it sets one person against another, that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their self-worth relied on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and-death affairs. In their single-minded pursuit (追求) of success, the development of many other human qualities is really forgotten.
However, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which values only the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition. Among the most vocal are youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society. Teaching these young people, I often notice that they have a desire to fail. They seem to choose failure by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse: “I may have lost, but it doesn’t matter because I really didn’t try.” They don’t believe that if they had really tried and lost, such a loss would prove their worth. Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one’s self-respect relies on how well one performs in comparison(比较) with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve (缓解) can we discover a new meaning in competition.

Facebook means never having to say goodbye. The social media website has earned a reputation for reconnecting old friends. Last week,a guy whom I hadn't seen since my bachelor party five years ago sent me a friend request. I accepted and waited for “Easy E” to send me a greeting of some kind. He had sought me out, after all.
I learned from his profile that he was in a relationship and had a son. However,I'm pretty sure we won't ever write wall-to-wall,let alone email each other. But he'll remain a friend of online until one of us makes a point of removing the other from his official list.
My pool of friends consists of family members, college buddies, coworkers from past and  present, and friends of friends. There are 35 in all. If I spent some time uploading old email addresses,I'm confident that I could increase my friend count actually.
A person could make a mission out of reconnecting with childhood friends, former  classmates, distant cousins, and those one would like to get to know better. And some people can even handle hundreds of onscreen relationships, keeping up with the daily happenings of  their small army of companions. After all, there are worse fates than having too many friends.
Thanks to email, the inability to schedule face-to-face meetings no longer means a  friendship must come to a close. But even with email, people will lose touch if one or both  parties stop writing back. That’s normal. People move from school to school, job to job, city to city. You never have to feel guilty for breaking away.
Every day,the masterminds of Web 2.0 find new ways of making human communication  easier. However, convenience can be a crutch(拐杖).Some things shouldn't be simplified. When it comes to friendship, there can be no shortcuts.

A.it has an interesting name of “Facebook”

【小题2】From the second paragraph we can learn that the writer ________.
A.would write to the friend quite often
B.asked the friend to email him
C.did get some information about the friend
D.would keep in touch with the friend forever
【小题3】Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A.There are 35 people in the author's list of friends right now.
B.The author communicates with all the 35 friends by emails.
C.The list of 35 friends doesn't include the old email addresses.
D.It is not difficult for the author to increase his friend count.
