【题目】If he’d survived his sudden illness in 1990, Jim Henson might be turning 79 years old on September 24, 2015. He would probably still be at work. We can only guess where his imagination would have taken him — and us — in the 25 years we missed. There’s no doubt that he would have broken new ground, for Henson was a neverstopping innovator (创新者).
His long career began far back in 1955, when he created Sam and Friends for a Washington D.C. television station. The programmes were just five minutes long and scheduled in the noman’sland between afternoon and evening programming. Yet the show won an Emmy for best local entertainment programme in 1958.
When it ended in 1961, Henson struggled to find work. He could only get brief appearances on other programmes like The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live. Only in 1976 did a British producer finally give Henson the green light to start a fullscale television show. The Muppet Show was produced and broadcast in Great Britain before finally arriving on prime time (黄金时间) US television. The network continued to identify it as a children’s programme, though the programme won a wide following of adult viewers.
One reason for its appeal to grownups was the obvious skill in catching the imagination. Henson’s talent was so great that it’s difficult to think of Kermit or Miss Piggy as nothing more than piles of cloth when they aren’t being operated. But Henson himself never forgot how much work went into creating his characters.
Way back in his early days, Henson created Kermit the Frog. His body was made from a green coat his mother had thrown away and his eyes were two halves of a pingpong ball. Over the years, his shape became more expressive. “Kermit is the character through whose eyes the audience is viewing the show. He’s a nice guy,” Henson said.
【1】Which of the following programmes marked the start of Jim Henson’s career?
A. The Tonight Show. B. Sam and Friends.
C. Saturday Night Live. D. The Muppet Show.
【2】It can be inferred from the passage that Miss Piggy was ________.
A. a character Jim Henson created
B. Jim Henson’s close friend
C. a television programme
D. Kermit’s girlfriend
【3】From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. it was easy for Jim to create his characters
B. Jim Henson died of illness at the age of 54
C. the Muppet Show was broadcast in the US first
D. the programme Sam and Friends was not popular locally

【题目】 You're probably used to the regular upgrades in our cell-phone networks. There was 2G, which came along in 199l, replaced with 3G in 2001, followed by 4G in 2009. Now we're hearing about the coming of 5G.
But 5G is a much bigger leap than before. 5G, of course, is much faster than 4G in the real world and a 5G phone in a 5G city will enjoy Internet speeds between 9 and 20 times as fast. The arrival of 5G also means enormous leaps forward in capacity-so much that every cell-phone plan will offer cheap, truly unlimited Internet access. “The consequences of that are huge,” says Sherif Hanna, Qualcomm's director of 5G marketing. For example, apps will no longer degrade (降低) your video quality or postpone downloading when you're out of Wi-Fi range. In fact, you'll probably prefer to do your downloads when you're on cellular (使用流量) because 5G will be much faster than whatever service you've got at home or work.
“However, not everyone is excited by the 5G development. The new standard gets its speed partly by using existing transmission(传输) frequencies more efficiently and partly by using the millimeter wave range. That's a big, juicy line of radio frequencies that are currently underused because millimeter wave is really hard to use,” Hanna says.
These frequencies are much higher than anything we've used for the cellular, which means they can offer unbelievable speed-but at the cost of range. Millimeter wave cellular towers have to be about 500 feet apart. Cell carriers not only will have to upgrade all their cell transceivers (called small cells) but will install(安装) a lot more of them as well.
That's why the millimeter wave flavor of 5G, the superfast coverage, will be available only in densely populated cities such as New York and San Francisco. In suburban and rural areas, 5G will bring a speedup of “only” nine times faster.
【1】What advantages does 5G have over previous networks?
A.5G is much faster and more convenient.
B.5G allows users to download more videos.
C.5G can provide better service and news at home.
D.5G cell-phone plans are expensive but more accessible.
【2】Hanna's words in paragraph 3 reflect .
A.popularity of the coming of 5G
B.easy access to the 5G development
C.concern about the 5G development
D.excitement about the 5G development
【3】What can we learn about 5G according to the text?
A.It requires more cellular towers.
B.It won't be available in rural areas.
C.It won't show speed improvements in suburbs.
D.It makes some populated cities even more crowded.
【4】Where is the text most likely from?
A.A tour brochure.B.A science newspaper.
C.A medical magazine.D.An experimental textbook.

【题目】Phillip Island is a small island and nature reserve off the coast of South Australia, about 140 km from Melbourne. On the island you can see koalas, kangaroos and the main attraction, the Penguin Parade(归巢)on Summerland Beach.
As dusk was approaching, we made our way down to the beach, as did everyone else. On the beach was a stone grandstand, rather cold on the behind, so bring a coat or blanket to sit on. As it got darker, people talked less, keeping an eye out on the beach to see the arrival of that first penguin.
Suddenly there was movement at the edge of the surf and all heads turned as one. There, standing by the edge of the water was the smallest penguin we had ever seen. He looked left, then right, as if he was considering crossing a busy road and then he ran quickly across to the sand dunes and the penguin holes.
He must have been the scout(侦查员), because after him, there came groups of penguins, some consisted of two or three penguins, and some had about ten or fifteen, but they all made the same mad dash across the sand into the holes, as if they couldn't get there fast enough. The groups started to lessen and finally no more penguins emerged from the sea.
We sat on the grandstand for a while, not talking, just feeling awed(敬畏的) at what we'd just seen. Neither of us had ever seen penguins in the wild before, only in zoos and it was an amazing feeling.
You could see the penguins here every evening and morning, but they weren't in cages or in small pools. The sea was their playground and it is a sight we would definitely recommend to anyone.
You weren't allowed to take flash photographs as it scared them. After the penguins had gone to their holes, you could walk along boardwalks and see them there. That's got to be worth a look.

d. The penguins appear as a whole.
e. There are no more penguins on the sea.
A. d a c b e B. a b c d e
C. a c d b e D. d a b c e
