If you put all the books you own on the street outside your house, you might expect them to disappear immediately. But one man, Hernando Guanlao in Manila, tried it and found that his collections grew.
He’s a lovely man in his early 60s, with one ever-lasting love—books. They’re his pride and joy, because, whether he likes it or not, they seem to be taking over his house. Guanlao has set up a “library” outside his home in central Manila. Readers can take as many books as they want, for as long as they want. As Guanlao says, “The only rule is that there are no rules.”
You might consider it would end very quickly. But in fact, in the 12 years he’s been running his library. He’s found that his collection has grown rather than become smaller, as more and more people help the activity. “It seems to me that the books are speaking to me,” he says with a smile, “The books are telling me they want to be read.”
Guanlao started his library in 2000, shortly after the death of his parents. He was looking for something to honor their memory, and that was when he hit upon the idea of promoting the reading habit passed on to him from his parents. So he put the books outside the door of his house to see if anyone wanted to borrow them. They did, and they brought the books back with others to add to the collection. The library was born. The library is not advertised, but somehow, every day, a steady stream of people find their way there.
To help the poorest communities in Manila, Guanlao doesn’t wait for them to find him on his “book bike”. He wants to set up a “book boat”, traveling around the islands of Sulu and Basilan. As we sat outside Hernando Guanlao’s house in the midday sun, watching people look through his collection, he thought it was worth spending all his time.

If you put all the books you own on the street outside your house,及But one man, Hernando Guanlao in Manila, tried it可知Hernando把书放到室外,故选D。
根据文章第二段的“The only rule is that there are no rules.”
根据文章第三段的“…you might consider it would end...he’s been running his library”可知,出乎人们意料的是该图书馆竟然持续了这么长时间,故选C。
根据文章第四段的“He was looking for something to honour their memory,…from his parents.”

Organizing Your Time
You can set a budget for your time just as you can set a budget for your money. Since you’re trying to reduce worry rather than increase it, go into this process with a focus on maximizing(使……最大化) your personal time, rather than cramming(塞满) as much as you can into each day.
●Set a sleep schedule. 【1】 Give yourself a one-hour target window for bedtime in the evening, and set a strict time to get up in the morning. Be sure that the space between your bedtime and the start of your day gives you roughly an hour more than the amount of sleep you actually need. 【2】
●Take care of tasks at the same time every day. Plan time for daily health care, commuting(乘公交下上班), work, shopping, eating, and chores(家务). Add in time for anything else you do most days, such as homework, exercise, or an active hobby. 【3】 All the time left over is your free time, to use for relaxation or whatever else you want.
●【4】 For example, you might plan to go, dropping on your way home from work, to save the extra trip.
For many people, an irregular work schedule make this kind of budgeting difficult. 【5】
A.However, you can still plan to work around your schedule in the same order every day.
B.Stick to it,even on weekends.
C.Try to combine trips outside the home to maximize your free time.
D.Different days call for different approaches.
E.Therefore, you won’t lay down and start worrying about whether or not you’ll fall asleep on time.
F.Sit comfortably and focus on your breathing until the rest of your thoughts become quiet.
G.Put them in a specific order that works for you.

According to statistics published by the University of Scranton, about 45 percent of Americans usually make New Year’s resolutions—and the most popular resolution is losing weight. Of those who make resolutions, a mere 8 percent achieve them.
【1】 Are we just setting ourselves up for failure? Learn how to make realistic resolutions and how to overcome the roadblocks along the way.
Setting a resolution to lose pounds isn’t a goal that’s achievable now. It may be a good long-term goal. 【2】 Registered dietitian Elisa Zied says “… to be real when you make a resolution. It’s okay to shoot for the stars like making a resolution, but why not set a smaller goal and train smart?”
The same concept applies to weight loss. 【3】 These goals should help develop healthy habits that will finally help achieve your long-term resolution.
Notice that these goals are simple and achievable. “Instead of going from zero to 60, from never going to the gym to going four to five times a week, why not start with three days a week, get consistent and build from there,” Zied says. Set yourself up for success and map out your course by making appointments with yourself to be active. 【4】
You also need to be aware of your current exercise and eating habits to make achievable goals. Keeping a diary of your food and exercise habits can help. Record everything you eat and drink for three to five days and review it. 【5】 For example, if you notice a tendency to snack on unhealthy fare, set a goal to eat a fruit or vegetable with each snack. Building on these smaller goals over time can help you achieve your long-term goal.
A.So why do so many of us fail to achieve our goals?
B.Once you notice your not-so-good habits, start fixing them.
C.Set between one to three weekly goals that you want to achieve.
D.Resolutions usually involve a commitment to sticking to your goals.
E.However, in order to reach it, you need to take baby steps to get it down.
F.If you treat your goals like set appointments, you’re more likely to achieve them.
G.Losing weight, as well as getting a better job, is among the most popular resolutions for adults.
