【题目】What is language for? Some people seem to think it's for practicing grammar rules and earning lists of words—the longer the list, the better. That's wrong.Language is for the exchange(交流)of ideas and information. It's meaningless knowing all about a language if you can't use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can't speak correctly or fluently(流利地).They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too.Bernard saw once wrote, "Foreigners often speak English too correctly."But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They're English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right.People not only make history, they make language. But a people can only make its own language. It can't make another people's language. So Chinese students of English should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldn't overdo(做过头)it. They should put communication first.

1Language is used to ________.

A. express oneself B. practise grammar rules

C. talk with foreigners only D. learn lists of words

2Generally, when an American or an Englishman speaks English, he ________.

A. never makes mistakes B. often makes mistakes

3"Foreigners often speak English too correctly."This sentence means that ________.

A. foreigners speak correct English

B. foreigners speak incorrect English

C. foreigners speak English according to the grammar rules

D. foreigners never make mistakes when they speak English

4When we speak a foreign language, we should ________.

A. speak in Chinese way

B. speak by the rules

C. speak to native speakers

D. not be afraid of making mistakes

【答案】

2C

2】细节分析题。第十句话Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too.就是当地人也会犯一些语法错误,所以当做外语学习的我们,犯错是无法避免的。故选C

【题目】You drive down the highway with your family or friends in the car, camping equipment and spare clothes in the back.Your windows are down and the wind is hitting you in the face. These are the makings of a classic US road trip.

Road trips are quite common in the country, especially during the Thanks-giving holiday, which is the busiest travel time of the year in the country for families and friends who want to get together.

And for students, going on a road trip is traditional after graduating from high school or college with their schoolmates. It usually involves traveling great distances across the US and camping out whenever possible. Destinations are different depending on where in the country someone is located. But they all show the same kind of adventure.Popular spots to travel to include Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canon.

However, the most famous of all road trip journey is travelling across the US on Route 66.Route 66 begins in Chicago and ends in Los Angeles. The route goes past many of the lesser-known states. However,it's the bizarre(稀奇古怪的)and wonderful small attractions that draw many road trippers to them. The attractions one sees on these trips are quite strange and very difficult to explain to non-American.They are filled with gas stations that still look like they did back in the 1950s and small restaurants known as "mom and pop restaurants" where you can eat a greasy cheeseburger with a delicious milkshake.Route 66 is also filled with quite unusual, but still fascinating wonders.

Deep down,US road trips show the spirit of freedom and openness. The idea is that if you have a car,you have freedom to escape,to discover,to find yourself,to lose yourself. It's a powerful call, one that is part of the US' identity and culture. It is a must-do for anyone who plans to spend time in the US to see the country and all of its wonders. An old saying—"It's not the destination,it's the journey"—best explains what the experience of a road trip truly offers.

1The first paragraph is designed to .

A. present the topic B. list some facts

C. raise a question D. give an example

2What attracts US road trippers most on Route 66?

A. Lesser-known states.

B. Mom and pop restaurants.

C. Gas stations and delicious foods.

D. Strange attractions and fantastic wonders.

3What is the author's purpose in writing the text?

A. To introduce US road trips.

B. To spread American culture.

C. To stress the importance of a road trip.

D. To attract US road trippers to Route 66.

【题目】You're in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:

“I can't believe it-Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find.Isn't it beautiful? And it's a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome.”

They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It's nice and the price is right. You've never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it.You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.

Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing.Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.

Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don't pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation-consumers between the age of 18 and 34.It's a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don't trust ads.

So advertising agencies hire young actors to “perform” in bars and other places where young adults go.Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative.“Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing.”It is true, because everyone knows an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. However, you don't know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.

1The two attractive young women were talking so as to ________.

A. get the sweater at a lower price

B. be heard by people around

C. be admired by other shoppers

D. decide on buying the sweater

2Lorenzo Bertolla is ________.

A. a very popular male singer

B. an advertising agency

C. a clothing company in Rome

D. the brand name of clothes

3What can we infer from the passage?

A. Traditional advertising will soon disappear in the market.

B. The MTV generation tends to be more easily influenced by all kinds of ads.

C. That traditional advertising is too direct may lead to its decreasing effectiveness.

D. Undercover marketing will surely be banned soon by the government.

4Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A. Two Attractive Shoppers

B. Lorenzo Bertolla Sweaters

【题目】根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

The Science of Risk-Seeking

Sometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth tasking. __【1】__ Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work.

The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. _【2】_ As the quality of Risk-taking was passed from on ration to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.

So why aren’t we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. __【3】__

No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. _【4】__ To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.

_【5】_ For the risk-seekers a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.

As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, we’ll continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.

A. Those are the risks you should jump to take.

B. It all depends on your character.

C. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival.

D. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.

E. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world.

F. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards.

G. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation.
