I used to live in San Paulo, Brazil.
It is a huge city with more people (live) in it than in my own country. I rented a flat in a wealthy community, but there was a favela(贫民窟)quite near. For several months I didn't have a car, so I used public transportation to go to the city centre.
Once,my way back, I had to wait for a long time at a bus stop. I was alone, except for a woman was apparently very poor. She carried a small paper bag of popcorn.
Whilewere waiting, she walked over and offered me some popcorn. I thanked her,I didn't want to help myself to it. She repeatedly (insist) that I take some from the paper bag.
I was so moved by that woman's(kind) that day. I clearly had more than she did, but she naturally and joyfully shared she had with me.
I think about how poor people are sometimes able to share the little they have more easily
those who own a lot. I wonder if it's true that the more you have, more difficult it is for you to share anything with others.

【答案】living;on;who;we;but;insisted;kindness;what;than;the
with 的宾语more people 与live 是主动关系,故要用living修饰 people.
on one's way back,固定短语“在某人回去的路上”。
The+比较级……,the 比较级。

It goes without saying that English plays an important role in our modern society.English is an international language.Wherever you go,you can hear English spoken by many people. From this point of view,it is true that English is important to our daily life.

Learning English is like learning to swim or learning to play ball.We are like the man who thinks he can learn to swim only by reading books about swimming. In fact,we learn by doing. The grammatical rules are valuable as we need some assistance. In the same way, advanced instructions about swimming are helpful as we learn something from actual experience in the water. But reading books never makes a swimmer and learning rules never makes a practical linguist. The regular procedure in learning English involves listening first,to be followed by speaking. Then comes reading, and finally the writing of the language. The way you learn English is much the same as the way you learned your own language.First of all you must listen and then repeat and repeat until you can use the language easily. In other words, you have to build up language habits in English just as you build up English habits in your own language.

To sum up,we must bear in mind that nobody can learn to swim for you.Nobody can learn to play ball for you.Nobody can learn English for you. It’s up to you.You must learn for yourself and you will learn if you really want to and are willing to practice.

Some people will do just about anything to save money. And I am one of them. Take my family's last vacation. It was my six-year-old son's winter break form school, and we were heading home from Fort Lauderdale after a week-long trip. The flight was overbooked, and Delta, the airline, offered us $400 per person in credits to give up our seats and leave the next day. I had meetings in New York, so I had to get back. But that didn't mean my husband and my son couldn't stay. I took my nine-month-old and took off for home.
The next day, my husband and son were offered more credits to take an even later flight. Yes, I encouraged—okay, ordered—them to wait it out at the airport, to "earn" more Delta Dollars. Our total take: $1,600. Not bad, huh?
Now some people may think I'm a bad mother and not such a great wife either. But as a big-time bargain hunter, I know the value of a dollar. And these days, a good deal is something few of us can afford to pass up.
I've made a living looking for the best deals and exposing (揭露) the worst tricks. I have been the consumer reporter of NBC's Today show for over a decade. I have written a couple of books including one titled Tricks of the Trade: A Consumer Survival Guide. And I really do what I believe in.
I tell you this because there is no shame in getting your money's worth. I'm also tightfisted when it comes to shoes, clothes for my children, and expensive restaurants. But I wouldn't hesitate to spend on a good haircut. It keeps its shape longer, and it's the first thing people notice. And I will also spend on a classic piece of furniture. Quality lasts.
(1)Why did Delta give the author's family credits?
A.They had early bookings.
B.They took a later flight.
C.Their flight had been delayed.
D.Their flight had been cancelled.
(2)What can we learn about the author?

(3)What does the author do?

(4)What does the author want to tell us?

C.How to expose bad tricks.
D.How to make a business deal.

Alexis, 17, sat quietly in the passenger seat of her dad's car. She let her eyes lazily scan the landscape for wildlife. Then a deer came into view about 200 yards in front of them. “Dad, there's a deer there!” Alexis said. It was a male deer with sharp antlers (角) on each side of its head.
As the car moved closer, Alexis saw that the deer's head was bent toward the ground. Then she heard a scream and saw an arm fly up near the deer's head. Alexis realized the deer was attacking a woman. Sue, a 44-year-old mother, had been out for her morning run. The deer followed her and edged closer. “I knew I was in trouble.” Sue says. She went to pick up a stick for self-defense, and the deer charged. It lifted her with its antlers and threw her into the air. Sue could feel blood flew down her leg. Within seconds, the deer had pushed her off the road.
When Alexis and her father pulled up, the deer was throwing Sue like a doll. Alexis looked into the woman's terrified eyes, and before her father had even stopped the car, the teenager jumped quickly out of the car and ran toward the deer. “I was kicking it to get its attention." she says. Then her father, who had followed his daughter, pushed the deer away from the women.
Alexis helped Sue into the car and then applied a piece of cloth to Sue's injured leg. “We're going to get you to a hospital.” Alexis said. Then she heard her father shout loudly. He had been knocked to the ground. Alexis took hold of a hammer from the car and ran to where her father lay on his back. She beat the deer's head and neck, but the blows didn't scare it away. “I was losing faith.” she says. “A couple more strikes. Alexis.” said her father. “You can do it.”
Turning the hammer around, Alexis closed her eyes and beat the deer's neck with all her strength. When she opened her eyes, the deer was running away.
Alexis got in the driver's seat and sped toward the nearest hospital. After Sue was treated, she tearfully thanked her rescuers. “You expect a teenage girl to get on the phone and call for help,” she says, “not to beat up a deer.”
(1)What was Sue doing when she was attacked by the deer?
A.She was driving home.
B.She was resting on the road.
C.She was taking exercise.
D.She was feeding wild animals.
(2)What did Alexis do to save Sue?
A.She pushed the deer away.
B.She hit the deer with her feet
C.She drove the car to hit the deer.
D.She beat the deer with a hammer.
(3)Which of the following words can best describe Alexis?
A.Strong.
B.Cruel.

D.Brave.
(4)What is the best title for the passage?

Working in a team can be rewarding, but at times it can be difficult. To create a successful team, effective communication methods are necessary. Here we've outlined some ways to avoid some common team mistakes as well as some helpful advice.
Communicate
Letting bad feelings brew(酝酿)will only make you feel bad and want to isolate yourself from the group. Not only does it feel good to get the bad feelings out, but it will be better for the team in the long run.

People in your group will lose respect for you if you're constantly blaming others for not meeting deadlines. Group members understand if you have a heavy workload and aren't able to meet a deadline. Saying something like, “I'm really sorry, but I'll get it to you by the end of today.” will earn you a lot more respect than trying to make it seem like it's everyone else's fault that you missed your deadline.
Support group member's ideas
If a teammate suggests something, always consider it! And this makes you a good team member. After all, nobody likes a know-it-all.
Listen Actively
Look at the person who's speaking to you, nod, ask questions and acknowledge what's said by paraphrasing points that have been made. If you're unclear about something that's been said, ask for more information to clear up any confusion before moving on. Effective communication is a vital part of any team. .
Get Involved
Share suggestions, ideas, solutions and proposals with your team members. Take the time to help your fellow teammates. You can guarantee there will be a time in the future when you'll need some help or advice. .
A. Don't Blame Others
B. Avoid showing off
C. Thus, the value of good listening skills shouldn't be ignored.
D. Have faith that people will recognize when good work is being done.
E. If you have a problem with someone in your group, talk to him about it
F. And if you've helped them in the past, they'll be more than happy to lend a helping hand.
G. Considering the group's ideas shows you're interested in other people's ideas, not just your own.
