One day, when I was in high school, I saw a kid named Kyle walking home from school with all his books, I thought to myself, “   11   would anyone bring home all his books for the weekend? He must really be   12  .” As I was walking, I saw several kids running toward him. They ran at him,   13   all his books out of his arms and he fell down in the dirt. His glasses went   14   and landed in the grass.

My heart went out to him. So, I ran over to him.  15   I handed him his glasses, he looked at me and said, “Hey, thanks!”

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it   16   , he lived near me. We talked all the way home. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.

Kyle was the   17  student of our class, one of those guys that really found  themselves during high school. Therefore he had the   18   to prepare a graduation speech. On the graduation day, I could see that he was   19  . So, I patted him on the back and said, “Hey, big guy, you’ll be great!” He looked at me and smiled.

He cleared his throat, and began. “Graduation is a time to   20   those who helped you make it through those   21   years. Your parents, your teachers… but mostly your friends, I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best  22   you can give him.”

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to   23   himself over the weekend and was carrying his books home. “Thankfully, nothing happened. My friend   24   me from doing the unspeakable.”

Not until that moment did I realize that you should never underestimate(低估) the  25   of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person’s life. For better or for worse.

When I was fifteen months old.I fell on a glass rabbit which cut my eye badly enough to blind it.And as I grew, this sightless eye , in so many ways controlled me that I walked with my face looking at the floor so people would not see the ugly me.
Yet Mama would hold me in her arms and stroke my hair and say,“If you hold your head up high,it will be OK.And people will see your beautiful soul.”She continued this message whenever I wanted to hide.
As a little child,I thought Mama meant,“Be careful or you will fall down or bump into something because you are not looking.”As a teenager, I found that my mama’s words helped me begin to realize that by letting people look at my face,I let them recognize the intelligence and beauty behind my eyes.
In high school I was successful both academically and socially.I was even elected class president, but inside me I still felt like a freak(畸形人).When things got really bad,I would cry to my mama and she would look at me with loving eyes and say, “Hold your head up high and face the world.Let them see the beauty that is inside.”
When I met the man who became my partner for life,we looked each other straight in the eye,and he told me I was beautiful inside and out.Mama’s love and encouragement were the spark that gave me the confidence to overcome my own doubt.

“Mama, when I grow up, I’m going to be one of those!” I said this after seeing the Capital Dancing Company perform when I was three. It was the first time that my dream took on a vivid form and acted as something important to start my training. As I grew older and was exposed to more, my interests in the world of dance certainly varied but that little girl’s dream of someday becoming a dancer in the company never left me. In the summer of 2005 when I was 18, I received the phone call which made that dream a reality: I became a member of the company dating back to 1925.
As I look back on that day now, it surely lacks any sense of reality. I believe I stayed in a state of pleasant disbelief until I was halfway through rehearsals (排练) on my first day. I never actually expect to get the job. After being offered the position, I was completely astonished. I remember shaking with excitement.
Though I was absolutely thrilled with the chance, it did not come without its fair share of challenge. Through the strict rehearsal period of dancing six days a week, I found it vital to pick up the material fast with every last bit of concentration. It is that extreme attention to detail (细节) and stress on practice that set us apart. To then follow those high-energy rehearsals with a busy show schedule of up to five performances a day, I discovered a new meaning of the words “hard work.” What I thought were my physical boundaries were pushed much further than I thought possible. I learned to make each performance better than the last.
Today, when I look at the unbelievable company that I have the great honor of being a part of, not only as a member, but as a dance captain, I see a tradition that has inspired not only generations of little girls but a splendid company that continues to develop and grow-and inspires people every day to follow their dreams.
【小题1】 How many years has the Capital Dancing Company existed when the author received the phone call from it?

A.180B.1925C.2005D.80

A.Though I was excited, I should share the chance with others.
B.Though I was excited, it’s fair to share the chance when there is challenge.
C.Though I was excited, it’s a challenge for me to share the chance with others.
D.Though I was excited, I know clearly where there is chance there is challenge.
【小题4】What conclusion could be drawn from the passage?
A.The company values practice most.
B.The company extremely focus on intelligence.
C.The company has an inherited tradition of inspiring its members break their limits.

I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a freezing cold wet day in the winter of 1975. I remember the right moment, hiding behind a fragile mud wall, peeking (窥视)into the alley (胡同)near the frozen stream. That was a long time ago ,but it’s wrong what they say about the past, I,ve learned, about how you can bury it, because the past claws its way out. Looking back now, I realize I,ve been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years.

One day in summer, my friend, Rahim Khan called from Pakistan. He asked me to come to see him. Standing in the kitchen with the receiver to my ear, I knew it wasn’t just Rahim Khan on the line. It was my past of unatoned sins (未能弥补的罪行) After I hung up, I went for a walk along Spreckels Lane on the northern edge of Golden Gate Park. The early afternoon sun sparkled on the water where dozens of small boats sailed, driven by a gentle breeze. Then I glanced up and saw a pair of kites with long blue tails, soaring in the sky. They danced high above the trees on the west end of the park, over the windmill, floating side by side like a pair of eyes looking down on San Francisco, the city I now call home.

And suddenly Hassan5S voice whispered in my head: For you, a thousand times over. Hassan the hare-lipped kite runner. I sat on a park bench near a willow tree. I thought about something Rahim Khan said just before he hung up, almost as an after thought. There is a way to be good again. I looked up at those twin kites. I thought about Hassan. Thought about Baba. AU. Kabul. I thought of the life I had lived until the winter of 1975 came along and changed everything. And made me what I am today.
