In recent years, the volunteering spirit has spread between the Chinese people, especially youngsters. Actually, an increased number of people become volunteers every year in China.
Volunteering actions are of great beneficial to both those in need and the society. What is known to all, volunteers played an active role in National Youth Games in Fujian. Without them, it will be a tough task to hold this grand National Youth Games. Therefore, we can say that it was those volunteers who ensure the success of these games.
As high school student, we should get active involved in volunteering activities. Only by participating we learn how to work well in a team, how to improve our social skills. Undoubtedly, all of these are important for our growth. So, we should take an action to learn and to grow.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿One Sunday, Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. In the early afternoon, when he was planning to go home, a fierce snowstorm swept into the area. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost, all alone! He didn¡¯t have food, water, a phone, or other supplies. He was getting colder by the minute.
Nicholas had no idea where he was. He tried not to panic. He thought about all the survival shows he had watched on TV. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use.
He decided to stop skiing. There was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. The first thing he did was to find shelter form the freezing wind and snow. If he didn¡¯t, his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him.Using his skis, Nicholas built a snow cave. He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug out a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket, to stay as warm as he could.
By that evening, Nicholas was really hungry. He ate snow and drank water from a nearby stream so that his body wouldn¡¯t lose too much water. Not knowing how much longer he could last, Nicholas did the only thing he could ¡ª he huddled (òéËõ) in his cave and slept.
The next day, Nicholas went out to look for help, but he couldn¡¯t find anyone. He followed his tracks and returned to the snow cave, because without shelter, he could die that night. On Tuesday,Nicholas went out again to find help. He had walked for about a mile when a volunteer searcher found him. After two days stuck in the snow, Nicholas was saved.
Nicholas might not have survived this snowstorm had it not been for TV. He had often watched Grylls¡¯ survival show Man vs. Wild. That¡¯s where he learned the tips that saved his life. In each episode(Ò»ÆÚ½ÚÄ¿) of Man vs. Wild, Grylls is abandoned in a wild area and has to find his way out. When Grylls heard about Nicholas¡¯ amazing deeds, he was super impressed that Nicholas had made it since he knew better than anyone how hard Nicholas had to work to stay alive.

Whether you believe it or not, my school life is almost over. The first thing I¡¯m going to do is to take a long vacation! But I find myself ¡¾1¡¿ (think) about all the wonderful things ¡¾2¡¿ have happened during my senior year. I¡¯ve decided to write them down so that one day. Years from now, when I reread them, the ¡¾3¡¿ (memory) will come back.
There¡¯s so much ¡¾4¡¿ (remember). One of the best things about this year has been working as an arts editor for this newspaper. I love writing, so this has been ¡¾5¡¿ real success for me. Something else I¡¯ve greatly enjoyed is working as a peer mediator. ¡¾6¡¿ is clear that this kind of work can really help people. I think I¡¯ll continue to work as a mediator when I go to college. Other things I¡¯m pleased about¡ªgetting good grades on my final exams, and receiving the senior prize for English Literature. What¡¯s more, I got a car ¡¾7¡¿ (give) by my parents so I¡¯ve been able to drive to school.
All these things have been wonderful. ¡¾8¡¿ I have to say, the highlight of the year was the senior prom. I was so pleased that I was invited to attend the prom by Daniel whom I liked to stay ¡¾9¡¿ . Another big surprise of the evening was when I was elected prom queen, which was so unexpected. It was ¡¾10¡¿ (forget) and a perfect ending to a perfect school year.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿You feel happiest when you create a healthy balance between giving and receiving. If you give and give without making time to fill your own needs, then it's likely you will burn out, or feel upset. When you take and take without giving anything back, you never feel fulfilled, so you are always searching for ways to fill the void in your life.
The way to create a healthy balance between giving and receiving is to know and then live by your values. I break values up into two groups which I call being values and having values. Your being values are the personalities of the ideal person you would like to be. I suggest to my clients that they choose three being values that they are willing to make a promise to live by. An example of some being values are: kind, loving, generous, peaceful, wise and even powerful. By acting on these values you give to others through your actions and you inspire others by being a positive role model. Mastering being these personalities becomes your life purpose.
Your having values are the feelings you need to create in order to be happy. These could be companionship, achievement, support, being valued or financial security. This is what you receive. You take responsibility for filling your own needs by taking steps to create these feelings and conditions in your life.
When you make a promise to live by your being values, it becomes easier to make conscious (É÷ÖصÄ) choices rather than reactionary (·´¶¯µÄ) ones. If our usual pattern is to talk about your problems, you could choose to think and act like a calm person. A calm person might go for a walk, or set a time limit before responding. If your usual pattern is to worry, you could choose to act like a responsible or wise person. In other words, you would act like the person you choose to be¡ªthis is the key to personal power.
When you choose to act on your values, you will not only feel good about yourself, but also strengthen your chosen beliefs. Over time, acting in this way changes how you see the world, and in turn the way other people think of you.
¡¾1¡¿The main purpose of this passage is to .
A. persuade the readers to make a promise
B. explain to the readers what personal values are
C. inform the readers how to be truly happy
D. instruct the readers how to make wise choices
¡¾2¡¿According to the text, living by your being values, you would .
A. gain a lot of power
B. form positive personality
C. seek all human virtues
D. fill your own needs
¡¾3¡¿The underlined word "void" in Paragraph l means .
A. a feeling of emptiness
B. an absence of one's mind
C. a break of continuity
D. a state of confusion
¡¾4¡¿What can be inferred from the text?
A. Having values are better than being values.
B. A calm person does not choose to complain.
C. The way other people think of you decides who you are.
D. A responsible person does not

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Robinson Crusoe is a famous novel written by Daniel Defoe. The book tells the story of a man who is shipwrecked (ÔâÓöº£ÄѵÄ). He spends 28 years on an island near Venezuela. The book tells the story of everything that happens to Robinson Crusoe. He hopes someone will rescue him, but he has been there for so long on his own that he also begins to fear being rescued.
Robinson Crusoe was published in 1719. Most experts believe the story is based on the life of Alexander Selkirk, who was a Scottish sailor. On an expedition in 1704, Selkirk had an argument with his ship¡¯s captain. Selkirk thought the ship was not safe and was about to fall apart.
When the ship stopped at a remote island to get fresh water, Selkirk got off. He tried to get the other crew members to leave with him, but nobody would. The shop then sailed away without him. Selkirk spent four years and four months on his own on the island, known as Aguas Buenas.
Selkirk was finally rescued by a ship that visited the island in 1709. The ship¡¯s captain was grateful to Selkirk because he provided food for the crew when they arrived.
Now archaeologists think they have found the remains of Selkirk¡¯s camp on Aguas Buenas. They found two deep holes that would have held wooden posts. The archaeologists say this is evidence that Selkirk built a shelter there. The post holes are near a fresh water stream. They are located quite high up,
The most interesting evidence, the archaeologists say, is part of a piece of equipment used by sailors to navigate (µ¼º½). Historians believe Selkirk was a navigator, so the instrument could have belonged to him.
Robinson Crusoe was published ten years after Selkirk was rescued. Most experts think Daniel Defoe heard and read stories about Selkirk, which inspired him to write the book.
¡¾1¡¿Why did Selkirk choose to land on the remote island?
A. Because he had quarrels with the crew members.
B. Because the captain ordered him to get fresh water.
C. Because he wanted to go on an adventure there.
D. Because he thought the ship he was on was in danger.
¡¾2¡¿We can infer from the text that the ship that visited Aguas Buenas in 1709 _______.
A. lost its way while sailing
B. lacked fresh water upon arrival
C. was being navigated by Selkirk
D. was running out of food upon arrival
¡¾3¡¿How could Selkirk see ships that might rescue him, according to archaeologists?
A. By asking the crew members on the ships.
B. By sending messages to the ships¡¯ captains.
C. By watching from his shelter high on the island.
D. By using a piece of equipment used to navigate.
¡¾4¡¿The author wrote the text to _______.
A. explain the origin of Robinson Crusoe
B. promote sales to Robinson Crusoe
C. criticise Alexander Selkrik¡¯s deeds
D. praise Daniel Defoe for his writing inspiration
