Maybe you know the saying, “When you point one finger, there are three fingers pointing back to you.” One wise man had a version of this when he said, “Don't focus on the dust in your brother's eye while the dirt in your own eye.” Why do we do this? Because criticisms are always ourselves. When we criticize others, we do not expose them, but expose ourselves. We our own weakness and smallness.
A story in the old tales the difference in wisdom between the good and the bad. Once a king both Nelson and Dick. The king asks Nelson to go out into the kingdom and after finding someone less qualified than himself. Then he asks Dick to go out into the kingdom and return after finding someone than himself.
When Fool Dick returns, he tells the king that he couldn't find anyone better than himself. Wise Nelson says that he was to find anyone less qualified than himself on his return.
Moral of the story is something about human . Good people always look at their own and faults and consider themselves less qualified than others. Whereas bad people always look at the shortcomings and faults of others and themselves more qualified than others.

After six months of living in New Zealand, I realized one thing. Despite my 1 for greater contact with local students, 2 I initiated(开始) the contact, it wouldn’t happen. Local students are not interested in contacts with the international students, because they regard us as shy, 3 and sometimes snobby (势利的) people. Of course we know that’s not true. After 4 the problem, I put on my “confidence mask” each morning and walked around with a smile on my face. I chatted with people whenever I had the chance. I showed that I was not afraid to 5 them, and that I was worthy of being a friend.
A side-effect of my 6 confidence was that my emotions occasionally broke down Only in the 7 of my room, where no one could see, would I reveal my real emotions. To age discrimination in hiring, courts have disallowed these sorts of questions: "How old are you?" "When did you graduate from high school?" and so on. Do you expect problems managing people older than yourself?" You can imagine the later court . Manager: "But, Your Honor, I never asked her age!”Candidate: "My age seemed to be one of his key about my ability to manage." Optimism and pessimism are both powerful forces. Each of us must choose which we want to our future and our expectations. We can choose to laugh or cry, bless or . It’s our decision: From which perspective do we want to view life? Will we look up in or down in desperation? I believe in the upward look. I choose to the positive and skip right over the negative.
An optimistic attitude is not a luxury; it’s a(n) . The way you look at life will determine how you feel, how you perform, and how well you will get along with other people. , negative thoughts, attitudes, and expectations themselves; they become a self-fulfilling prophecy (预言). Pessimism creates a dark place where no one wants to live.
Years ago, I drove into a service station to get some gas. It was a beautiful day, and I was feeling great. As I walked into the station to pay for the gas, the attendant said to me, “How do you feel?” That seemed like a(n) question, but I felt fine and told him so. “You don’t look well,” he replied. This me completely by surprise. A little confidently, I told him that I had felt better. Without hesitation, he continued to tell me how bad I looked and that my skin appeared yellow.
By the time I left the service station, I was feeling a little . About a block away, I over to the side of the road to look at my face in the mirror. How did I feel? Was I affected with jaundice(黄疸)? Was everything all right? By the time I got home, I was beginning to feel a little nauseous(恶心). Did I have a bad liver? Had I some rare disease?
On another beautiful day, when I went into that gas station, feeling again, I figured out what had happened. The place had recently been painted a bright, distasteful , and the light reflecting the walls made everyone inside look as though they had hepatitis(肝炎)! I wondered how many other folks had the way I did. I had let one short conversation with a total change my attitude for an entire day. He told me I looked sick, and before long, I was actually feeling sick. That single observation had a great effect on the way I felt and acted.
The only thing more powerful than negativism is a word of optimism and hope. When a whole culture adopts an upward look, incredible things can be accomplished.

There are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degrees of health and wealth and the other comforts of life, one becomes happy, becomes unhappy. This from the different ways in which they consider things, persons, and events, and the resulting effects upon their minds.
The people who are to be happy their attention to the conveniences of things, the pleasant parts of conversation, the well-prepared dishes, the goodness of the wines, and the fine weather. They enjoy all the cheerful things. Those who are to be unhappy think and speak only of the things. They are, , continually unsatisfied. By their words, they complain about the pleasure of society, offend many people, and themselves disagreeable (不受欢迎的) everywhere. If this turn of mind were founded in nature, such unhappy persons would be more to be pitied. The intention of criticizing and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitation (模仿). It grows into a habit, unknown its possessors. The habit may be strong, but it may be cured when those who have it are its bad effects on their interests and tastes. I hope this little warning may be of service to them, and them change this habit.
Although in fact it is chiefly an act of imagination, it has serious in life, since it causes deep sorrow and bad luck. Those people offend many others, nobody loves them, and no one treats them with more than the most politeness and respect. This puts them in bad temper and draws them into arguments. If they aim at obtaining advantages in social position or fortune, nobody wishes them success. Nor will anyone start a step speak a word to favor their hopes. If they cause themselves public objections (反对), no one will or excuse them, and many join to criticize their wrongdoings. These people should change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, worrying needlessly about themselves and others. If they do not, will be good for others to avoid any contact with them. Otherwise, it can be disagreeable and sometimes very inconvenient, when one becomes mixed up in their quarrels.

I consider myself something of an expert on apologies. A quick temper has me with plenty of opportunities to make them. In one of my earlier , my mother was telling me“Don’t watch the when you say, ‘I’m sorry’. Hold your head up and look at the person in the , so he’ll know you it. ”
My mother thus made the key point of a(n) apology: It must be direct. You must never to be doing something else. You do not a pile of letters while apologizing to a person in position after blaming him or her for a mistake that turned out to be your . You do not apologize to a hostess, whose guest of honor you treat , by sending flowers the next day without mentioning your bad .
One of the important things we should do for an apology is a readiness to the responsibility for our careless mistakes. We are used to making excuses, which leaves no for the other person to us. Since most people are open-hearted, the no-excuse apology leaves both parties feeling about themselves. That, after all, is the of every apology. It little whether the apologizer is wholly or only partly at fault. Answering for one’s encourages others to take their share of the blame.
