Last month, I rode bus to my office ten miles away. I carried only a few cash to last each week. One night, as I walk to the usual bus stop, I met a beggar whom had no legs. I stopped and opened my wallet, but I was discovered that I had no money at all. I apologized to him immediate. I became worried so I had no way to get home. At my surprise, the beggar pulled out many coin from his broken bowl. Embarrassed, I took enough for his bus fare, and he said, ¡°Good luck!¡±

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿The latest study by the University of Florida has found that eating from smaller, less beautiful, and even paper plates will help prevent overeating. Eating with a fork instead of a spoon can help you lose weight, the researchers say. Much to their surprise, they find that putting mirrors in the dining room will also help reduce weight.

The researchers asked 185 college students to choose a chocolate cake or a fruit salad, and evaluated the taste. Those who ate in a room with a mirror scored the taste of junk food much lower than those in a room without a mirror. But the taste of fruit salad remained the same in any case.

Lead scientist, Dr. Ata Jami, says that a glance in the mirror tells people more than just about their physical appearance. It enables them to view themselves objectively (¿Í¹ÛµØ) and helps them to judge themselves and their behavior in the same way that they judge other people.

The mirrors were found to push people to compare and match their own behavior with accepted social standards. The researchers believe it proves that people don¡¯t want to look in the mirror when they feel they are following the social standards. When they look in the mirror with mouths full of junk food, feelings of discomfort and failure can be increased. Therefore, the presence of the mirror lowers the taste of unhealthy food.

However, researchers say this is only the case if people select the food they are eating, because they are responsible for that choice. The researchers suggest that mirrors be placed in dining rooms and other eating spaces, so that people will start eating more healthily.

¡¾1¡¿Researchers are amazed to find that ______.

A. paper plates make food look nicer

B. people using a fork will eat more

C. mirrors can help people lose weight

D. people will eat more in front of a mirror

¡¾2¡¿What can be inferred from the study?

A. Some teenagers got involved in it.

B. People were required to eat with a spoon.

C. People preferred a chocolate cake to a fruit salad.

D. The mirror may not affect the taste of healthy food.

¡¾3¡¿According to Dr. Ata Jami, the mirror ______.

A. makes people judge others correctly

B. makes people well judge themselves

C. is a necessary part of people¡¯s daily life

D. can only show the appearance of a person

¡¾4¡¿How does the mirror affect the taste of junk food?

A. By making people hungry.

B. By showing the social standards.

C. By attracting people to healthy food.

D. By causing a feeling of discomfort.

The relationship between parents and children has always been a hot topic. Many students may feel ¡¾1¡¿ (stress) because of their parents. Most parents have good intentions, ¡¾2¡¿ some of them aren¡¯t very helpful with the problems their sons and daughters have in ¡¾3¡¿ (adjust) to college, and a few of them seem to go out of their way to add to their children¡¯s ¡¾4¡¿ (difficulty).

For one thing, parents are often not aware of the kinds of problems their children face. They don¡¯t realize that the ¡¾5¡¿ (compete) is stronger, that the required standards of work are ¡¾6¡¿ (high), and that their children may not be prepared for ¡¾7¡¿ change. They may be upset by their children¡¯s poor grades. At their kindest, they may ¡¾8¡¿ (gentle) ask why John or Mary isn¡¯t doing better, whether he or she is trying as hard as he or she could, and so on. At their worst, they may threaten ¡¾9¡¿ (take) their children out of college or cut off living expenses.

Sometimes parents think it right and natural that they determine ¡¾10¡¿ their children should do with their lives. They forget that everyone is different and that each person must develop in his or her own way.

I have planned an autumn outing for my class next week, and I¡¯m writing to ask your permission.

First, the place where we¡¯ve decided to visit ¡ª the Forest Park is not far away from the city. We can take a bus and ride a bike to get there. Second, the trip would provide us with a great opportunity to get close to the nature. Third, we need to spare some time to take some physical exercises. Some teachers as well as Mr Wang is going to join us to make sure of our safe.

We are all looking forward to receive your permission. We will appreciate you if you can kindly give us an immediate reply.
