A.In spite ofB.Despite ofC.In terms ofD.In sight of

分析 虽然他们身陷困境,他们仍然试图用一些钱帮助我们.

解答 答案:A,考查介词短语的辨析,in spite of"虽然,尽管",despite of一般不用于这样的搭配,而是in spite of或despite,作为介词使用,in terms of"根据…,就…而言",in sight of"在看见…的位置",根据句子意思,前后构成转折的关系,故选A.

点评 本题考查代词短语的辨析,先区分所给代词的用法,再结合语境确定正确答案.

4.In the animal kingdom,weakness can bring about aggression in other animals.This sometimes happens with humans also.But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people.I see it every day when people hold doors for me,pour cream into my coffee,or help me to put on my coat.And I have discovered that it makes them happy.
From my wheelchair experience,I see the best in people, but sometimes I was sad because those who appear independent miss the kindness I see daily.
They don't get to see this soft side of others.Often,we try every way possible to avoid showing our weakness,which includes a lot of pretending.But only when we stop pretending we're brave or strong do we allow people to show the kindness that's in them.
Last month,when I was driving home on a busy highway,I began to feel unwell and drove more slowly than usual.People behind me began to get impatient and angry,with some speeding up alongside me,horning(按喇叭)or even shouting at me.At that moment,I decided to do something I had never done in twenty-four years of driving.I put on the flashlights and drove on at a really low speed.
No more angry shouts and no more horns!
When I put on my flashlights,I was saying to the other drivers,"I have a problem here,I am weak and doing the best I can,"And everyone understood.Several times,I saw drivers who wanted to pass.They couldn't get around me because of the stream of passing traffic.But instead of getting impatient and angry,they waited,knowing the driver in front of them was in some way weak.
Sometimes weakness calls for us to act strong and brave even when we don't feel that way.But in fact,it would be better if we don't pretend to feel strong when we feel weak or pretend that we are brave when we're scared.

A.They speed up to pass.
B.They put on their flashlights too

D.They waited with patience..
64.In this passage,the author advises us toA.
A.admit our weakness
B.accept help from others
C.handle problems by ourselves
D.show our bravery

5.An Open Letter to an Editor
I had an interesting conversation with a reporter recently-one who works for you.In fact,he's one of your best reporters. He wants to leave.
Your reporter gave me a copy of his résumé (简历) and photocopies of six stories that he wrote for you.The headlines showed you played them proudly. With great enthusiasm,he talked about how he finds issues, approaches them, and writes about them, which tells me he is one of your best.I'm sure you would hate to lose him.
Surprisingly, your reporter is not unhappy. In fact,he told me he really likes his job.He has a great assignment, and said you run a great paper. It would be easy for you to keep him,he said.He knows that the paper values him.He appreciates the responsibility you've given him, takes ownership of his profession, and enjoys his freedom.
So why is he looking for a way out?
He talked to me because he wants his editors to demand so much more of him.He wants to be pushed, challenged, coached to new heights.
The reporter believes that good stories spring from good questions, but his editors usually ask how l ong the story will be,when it will be in,where it can play, and what the budget is.
He longs for conversations with an editor who will help him turn his good ideas into great ones.He wants someone to get excited about what he's doing and to help him turn his story idea upside down and inside out, exploring the best ways to report it.He wants to be more valuable for our paper. That's what you want for him, too, isn't it?
So your reporter has set me thinking.
Our best hope in keeping our best reporters, copy editors,photographers,artists-everyone-is to work harder to make sure they get the help they are demanding to reach their potential. If we can't do it,they'll find someone who can.
