    Bentwood Truck Museum

    After eighteen months of hard work by more than 100volunteers，the Bentwood Truck Museum is ready to open．The old factory had been scheduled to be destroyed．When Roger Haygood heard about the plan to tear down the building，he bought it so that he could store his collection of old trucks there．Then he had the idea of turning the building into a truck museum．
    During the past year and a half，the old building has been transformed into a treasure chest of memories．Instead of a dark and dull house，the building has become a cheery，bright home for all kinds of trucks from the past．The museum now houses 68trucks，and we hope to have even more soon．There is a 1959school bus，a 1942bakery truck，and a 1937fire engine．Our oldest vehicle is a 1919milk truck．Our newest vehicle is a 1966tow truck．
    You can take a ride on a fire truck，a mail truck，or an ice-cream truck．Rides are $ 2.00，but you can get a ticket for a free ride at any grocery store in Bentwood．
    Help us celebrate our grand opening by bringing your family and friends!There is something to interest everyone who attends．The Bentwood Truck Museum is a special piece of our history．
    To get to Bentwood Truck Museum，take Route 29 （Kingston Highway） to Palmer Street．Go south on Palmer Street for one block and take a left onto Norman Drive．You will see the museum building and the amusement park on your left．Parking is available across the street，on your right．

    15．It might not come as a surprise that China fell behind Western countries in a recent UN report on global happiness．China was only ranked 112th happiest country out of 156in the UN's World Happiness Report in April．
    The happiest country，it seems，is Denmark，closely followed by three more northern European countries-Finland，Norway，and the Netherlands．
    But apart from income and lifestyle differences，there are also cultural reasons for this divide．They show that Chinese people and Westerners have different perceptions of happiness．
    According to a survey conducted by CCTV，income levels most affected Chinese people's sense of well-being （55.5percent），followed by health （48.9percent） and quality of marriage or love life （32percent）．
    It seems that all these criteria are lagging（落后） in China，and that the obvious explanation for greater happiness in the West is higher incomes．
    But not so，says Professor John Helliwell，an American economist at the University of British Columbia and coauthor of the UN report．
    According to Helliwell，low-income individuals may experience an initial jump in happiness when their money increases，but this feeling decreases as they adapt to their new circumstances．He stresses the example of the US，where，despite GDP figures rising consistently for the past 50years，happiness has been steadily declining．
    This is because people desire more than money and material wealth．"To be happy，we need to feel connection，trust and meaningful relationships，"explains Helliwell．
    Dr Deborah Swallow，a UK expert on cultural diversity however，believes there are some differences in the perceptions of happiness in the West and China．
    "For North Americans and Europeans，happiness tends to be defined in terms of personal achievement，and is best predicted by self-esteem"she says．
    "For East Asians，happiness tends to be defined in terms of interpersonal connectedness，and is best predicted by how well involved the self is in a social network．"
    Living standards are not necessarily the last word on happiness，as suggested by China's Urban Happiness Ranking 2012，released by the Hong Kong-based China Institute of City Competitiveness in July．
    According to the survey's results，Qingdao in Shandong province is China's happiest city with a score of 95.08．
    Surprisingly，China's first-tier cities scored relatively low，with Shenzhen ranking 94th，Beijing 96th and Shanghai in 99th position．

    Researchers in Canada just published a study in the journal Psychological Science that says trying to get people to think more positively can actually have the opposite effect：it can simply highlight how unhappy they are．

    In this experiment，Wood，Lee and Perunovic measured 68students'self-esteem．The  participants were then asked to write down their thoughts and feelings for four minutes  Every 15seconds，one group of students heard a bell．When it rang，they were supposed to  tell themselves，"I am lovable．"
    Those with low self-esteem didn't feel．better after the forced self-affirmation．In fact，their moods turned significantly darker than those of members of the control group，who   weren't urged to think positive thoughts．
    The paper provides support for newer forms of psychotherapy（心理理治疗） that urge  people to accept their negative thoughts and feelings rather than fight them．In the fighting，we not only often fail but can make things worse．Meditation（静思） techniques，in contrast，can teach people to put their shortcomings into a larger，more realistic perspective．Call it  the power of negative thinking．
