     根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中的两项为多余选项

No fight can end, and no friendship can move on, until everyone says these little words: I'm sorry.
Sometimes, though, they can be difficult to say,  1  .
     It's not about winning.
Friendships aren't like the Super Bowl, and there should never be a winner and a loser. When you start
fighting with a friend, it may feel important that you "win" the fight by proving you're right and he is wrong, or by making him be the first to apologize.
        2
You may have heard the expression "His pride stood in the way." It is usually used to describe a
person who is so determined to be"right"that he lets an opportunity for happiness pass him by forever.
3   Remember: as time goes on, we usually forget who was right and who was wrong in a disagreement, and only remember the sadness of losing a friend.
   Take the first step.
Are you sick of fighting? Do you think this fight is just not important enough to ruin your friendship?
4   You don't have to take full responsibility for starting the fight, or even say that your feelings were
wrong. But you should find something you did or said that's worth apologizing for. Maybe you're sorry
that you let the fight go for so long, of that you overreacted(反应过度的) to something your friend did.
If you say you are sorry, it's like an invitation for your friend to do the same.      5

A. Then try to be the first to apologize.
B. Stop thinking about your pride.
C .It's about taking some resposibility for the argument.
D. Don't let this happen to a friendship you care about.
E. Here are some things to keep in mind.
F. There are some special cases when you shouldn't be the one to apologize first.
G. Once you've both said it, you'll both feel a million times better.

Fear and its companion pain are two of the most useful things that men and animals possess,if they
are properly used.If fire did not hurt when it burnt, children would play it until their hands were burnt
away.Similarly,if pain existed but fear did not,a child would burn itself again and again, because fear
would not warn the child to keep away from the fire that had burnt him or her before.A really fearless
soldier-and some do exist-is not a good soldier because he is soon killed; and a dead soldier is of no
use to his army.Fear and pain are therefore two guards without which men and animals might soon die
out.
In our first sentence we suggested that fear ought to be properly used. If,for example, you never go
out of your house because of the danger of being knocked down and killed in the street by a car,you
are letting fear rule you too much.Even in your house you are not absolutely safe:a plane may crash on
your house,or ants may eat away some of the wood in your roof, and they later may fall on you,or you
may get cancer!
The important thing is not to let fear rule you,but instead to use fear as your servant and guide.Fear
will warn you of dangers; then you have to decide what action to take.
In many cases, you can take quick and successful action to avoid the danger. For example, you see a
car coming straight towards you; fear warns you,you jump out of the way,and all is OK.
In some cases, however, you decide that there is nothing that you can do to avoid the danger. For
example, you cannot prevent a plane from crashing into your house, and you may not want to go and live
in a desert where there are no plants. In this case, fear has given you its warning; you have examined it
and decided on your course of action,so fear of this particular danger is no longer of any use to you,and
you have to try to overcome it.

1. Children would play with fire until their hands were burnt away if________.

A. they were given no warning beforehand
B. they didn't have any sense of pain at all
C. they had never burnt themselves
D. they felt afraid of the fire

2. A really fearless soldier________.

A. is of a little use to his army
B. is not afraid of battles at all
C. is nothing but a dead soldier
D. is easy to get killed in a battle

3. People sometimes succeed in timely avoiding dangers because________.

A. they are warned of the danger and take quick action
B. they are quick both in mind and in action
C. they are calm in face of danger
D. they have gained much experience

4.  It is implied but not stated that________.

A. fear is always something helpful
B. too much fear is harmful
C. fear should be used as a servant and guide
D. fear is something strange and particular

According to some researchers, you should not praise children for everything that they do. It does not
help them build self-confidence.
Most parents and teachers agree that praise can help increase children's self-confidence -the more, the better. However, according to some researchers, only proper praise is good for children. If adults praise
everything children do, it makes children look for praise all the time, not trying to do their best. "Teachers
should not say things like 'good job' or 'nice work' whenever a child does anything. They should encourage them to continue to improve," some researchers advise.
Another idea is that children with high self-confidence are happier, and do better at school. About this, Marshall Duke, a researcher in children, says, "High self-confidence brought in by too much praise does
not make children happier, get more, or become able to do more. Finding a child's advantages (强项) and developing them can help build confidence more than too much praise can." Praise also loses its effect
(影响) if it is given equally to all students.
"It's important to tell children the truth about what they've done. Honest feedback (反馈) is far better
than empty praise," Duke adds. "People have got into the habit of not telling children when they're wrong. That makes it hard for them to deal with difficulties when they grow up. That's just how the world is."
1. According to some researchers, if parents praise their children too much, their children will ______.
A. always look for praise
B. increase self-confidence
C. become strong
D. do better in their studies
2. In order to help children build self-confidence, some researchers advise parents to ______.
A. make them live more happily
B. let them do more difficult work
C. help them do better in school
D. encourage them to improve
3. Which of the following is TRUE, according to the passage?
A. Praise makes children become successful.
B. Children don't know what they're really good at.
C. The same praise for all children has no meaning.
D. Duke thinks praise is more important than finding children's strengths.
4. What is the last paragraph about?
A. It's important to have the habit of praising children.
B. Children should know their mistakes as soon as possible.
C. We should praise children honestly and tell them their mistakes.
D. What children with high self-confidence are like.

The "aha moment"(顿悟时刻) for Arjun Nagendran came one recent afternoon while he was cleaning up the muddy paw prints, and his pet dog, Rocky, was tracking across the house "again".
"Why not make shoes for dogs?" the 10-year-old boy thought. For most kids, the moment might have
ended right here.
But for Arjun and five of his classmates from Littleton School, an accidental idea proved
talent when they won first place at the first-ever Student Inventors Day at the Liberty Science Center in
Jersey City. The winning invention, "Green Paws"-an eco-friendly dog shoe made from bark, three leaves and recycled rubber-got the group a $1,000 prize, two television appearances and a shot at being the
next "As Seen on TV" hit product.
More than 20 schools, most of them from New Jersey, gathered at the center to show their green
inventions. Each team had 10 minutes to introduce their inventions to the judges. In the end, the chief
judge Khubani announced that it was the Green Paws product that stood out, particularly because his
company had been looking into the very idea of how to keep paws clean.
Pet products are usually popular sellers, he said, noting that his company has marked four new pet
inventions this year alone. And while his senior managers had put forward the idea of new paw wipes,
they had never thought of pet shoes, he said.
"We thought about cleaning pets' paws, but we never thought about keeping them clean in the first
place." Khubani said after the event. "They actually have an idea that is marketable." The company will
begin conducting market research on Green Paws this week, he said. But Arjun and his team will have to
put off another day before they receive congratulations from their classmates.
1.What is the direct reason for Arjun's inventing "Green Paws"?
A. That his school inspired students to join in the invention competition
B. That Khubani's company invited him and his classmates to invent it
C. That his pet dog made the floor dirty with dirty paws
D. That his parents encouraged him to be a great inventor
2.The underlined sentence in Paragraph2 may mean ____________.
A. not all children are talented because of IQ
B. most children think twice before taking action
C. most children end their fresh ideas with actions
D. most children don't translate their ideas into action
3. What does the forth paragraph aim to tell us?
A. To prove Arjun's idea is marketable.
B. To praise Arjun's talent in invention.
C. To complain his employees are not creative.
D. To explain what is the "aha" moment.
4. Why will Khubani's company carry out market research on "Green Paws"?
A. They plan to give Arjun and his classmates more prizes
B. They hope to produce more "Paws" to make profits
C. They hope to ensure the fairness of the competition
D. They plan to find the carbon footprint of "Green Paws"

About twenty of us had been fortunate enough to receive invitations to a film-studio(影棚)to take
part in a crowd-scene. Although our "act" would last only for a short time, we could see quite a number
of interesting things.
We all stood at the far end of the studio as workmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge
of a winding path.Very soon, bright lights were turned on and the big movie-camera was
wheeled into position. The director shouted something to the camera operator and then went to speak
to the two famous actors nearby. Since it was hot in the studio, it came as a surprise to us to see one of
the actors put on a heavy overcoat and start walking along the path. A big fan began blowing tiny white
feathers down on him, and soon the trees were covered in "snow". Two more fans were turned on, and a "strong wind" blew through the trees. The picture looked so real that it made us feel cold.
The next scene was a complete contrast(对比).The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures
taken on an island in the Pacific were shown on a glass screen. An actor and actress stood in front of the
scene so that they looked as if they were at the water's edge on an island. By a simple trick like this, palm
trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brought into the studio!
Since it was our turn next, we were left wondering what scene would be prepared for us. For a full
three minutes in our lives we would be experiencing the excitement of being film "Stars"!
1. Who is the author?
A. A cameraman.
B. A film director.
C. A crowd-scene actor
D. A workman for scene setting
2. What made the author feel cold?
A. The heavy snowfall.
B. The man-made scene.
C. The low temperature.
D. The film being shown.

A. A new scene would be filmed.
B. More stars would act in the film.

It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable(不自在) when they are with their parents.
They say that their parents don't understand them. They often think that their parents are out of touch
with modern ways; that they are too serious and too strict with their children; and that they seldom
give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children's trust and they tend to forget how
they themselves felt when young. For example, young people like to act on the spot without much
thinking. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult
situation. Older people worry more easily. Most of them plan things ahead, at least in the back of
their minds, and do not like their plans to be upset by something unexpected.
When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask
before you really start doing it.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and
in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off from the older
people's world, into which they have not yet been accepted. That's why young people want to
make a new culture of their own. And if their parents do not like their music or entertainment or
clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people extremely happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say "yes" to wha
t you do. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after being a
child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents' control.
If you plan to control your life, you'd better win your parents over and try to get them to
understand you. If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will certainly
give you the right to do what you want to do.
1.        are to blame(受到责备)for the quarrels between parents and their children, according to
this article.
A. Parents
B. Young people

D. Both parents and their children
2. Young people like to have clothes, entertainment and music in their own way, because    .
A. they want to make their parents angry
B. they try to get their parents into trouble
C. they want to try on something new and look different from the older people
D. they know they are cleverer than the older people
3.  According to the text, young people want to make a new culture of their own, because      .
A. they don't feel they belong to the world of the older people
B. they do not want to get into trouble
C. they feel they are cleverer than the older people
D. they want to show they have grown up
4. If a young man plans to control his own life, it's better for him to        .
A. do everything according to his own wish
