Driving could soon be a far more pleasant experience thanks to a personal in-car robot being developed by researchers. The robot, which is called "Affective Intelligent Driving Agent (AIDA)" will be able to tell you the best route home based on traffic reports, remind you to pick up petrol and suggest places you may like to visit. The robot is intended to be placed on the indication plate in the car and is being developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in co-operation with Volkswagen.

AIDA communicates with the driver through an expressive robot screen and will even appear sympathetic if you're having a bad day.Cynthia Breazeal, director of MIT's Personal Robots Group, said: "We are developing AIDA to read the driver's mood from facial expressions and other clues and respond in a proper way."

AIDA works by analyzing the driver's moving patterns, keeping track of common routes and destinations. The creators say the robot should be able to work out home and work locations within a week of driving.Soon afterwards, the system will direct the driver to his favorite supermarket, suggesting a route that avoids crowded roads.AIDA might recommend a petrol stop on the way if the fuel tank is nearly empty. The robot will also analyze real-time information about traffic jams, the weather report, commercial activities, tourist attractions, and residential areas.

"In developing AIDA,we asked ourselves how we could design a system that would offer the same kind of guidance as an informed and friendly companion."

Dear editor,

I’m sorry to occupy your precious time, and I really want to tell you anything about the problem of some people keeping too many pets nowadays. I take the problem more and more seriously for the following reason. First of all, as it is known to people, pets make loud noise that trouble residents a lot. What’s more, it is widely accepted that animal waste pollutes the environment, where makes people quite uncomfortable. Many owners like taking their pets to public place where they may frighten children or even bite people. The mostly important is that pets can spread some diseases and this has attracted much attention. Take all these factors into consideration, I sincerely hope that I can get help from you and expect the media do something for this.

Yours truly,

Wang Lin

Things to Know Before Adopting a Dog

The idea of giving someone a puppy for Christmas provides a warm fuzzy response for most people.1.Pets carry a lot of responsibility, but they reward their owners with years of love and devotion.

Be Realistic About How Much Time You Have

In a busy world, full of work, soccer games, and family dinners, time is more precious. When adopting an animal it is important to consider how much time you have. to devote to training and caring for it.2.If you have plenty of extra time to devote to a pet, a puppy is a good choice.

Think About How Much Space You Have

Large dogs naturally require more room than small dogs. They need big yards to run in, or a nearby area where they can go for longer walks. If you live in a small apartment on an upper floor, this can be a problem.3.Smaller dogs take up less space and are often easier to transport up and down stairs and in elevators. If you have a large home with a big backyard where your dog can run and play, then a larger breed may be a good fit for you.

4.

If you have small children, a patient dog with a high tolerance level is necessary. Kids explore with their hands, and they are likely to touch, tug, pet, and crawl all over the new dog. In this situation, you need to choose a dog with an easygoing temperament-who will not become frustrated and bite.5.

A. Consider the Other Pets in Your Home

B. Choose the Right Dog for Your Situation

C. However, adopting a dog is not something to be taken lightly.

D. A puppy requires a lot more time and attention than an older dog.

E. Walking around a small space with a Labrador underfoot can be frustrating.

F. Adopting a dog rather than buying one benefits both the animal and your family.

G. Breeds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Border Collies are well known for their family friendly attitude.
