【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项
Different people use different languages. We Chinese speak Chinese, and, most of us are learning a foreign language. But there is another kind of language we need to know — the language of the body.
All over the world, people “talk with their hand, with their heads and with their eyes.” When Japanese people meet, they bow. When Indians meet, they put their hands together. What do American and British do? Americans are more informal (不拘小节的) than the British. They like to be friendly. They use first names, they ask questions and they talk easily about themselves. When they sit down, they like to relax in their chairs and make themselves comfortable. British people are more reserved (保守的). They take more time to make friends. They like to know you before they ask your name.
When British or American people meet someone for the first time, they shake hands. They do not usually shake hands with people they know well. Women sometimes kiss their women friends, and men kiss women friends (on one cheek only). When a man meets a man, he just smiles, and says, “Hello.” Men do not kiss each other, or hold hands. Even fathers and sons do not often kiss each other.

【题目】William Curry is a serious climate scientist, not an art critic. But he has spent a lot of time on Emanuel Leutze’s famous painting “George Washington Crossing the Delaware,” which describes a boatload of colonial American soldiers making their way to attack English the day after Christmas in 1776. “Most people think these other guys in the boat are rowing, but they are actually pushing the ice away,” says Curry, tapping his finger on the painting. Sure enough, the lead sailor is breaking the frozen river with his boot. “I grew up in the Philadelphia. The place in this painting is 30 minutes away by car. I can tell you, this kind of thing just doesn’t happen anymore.”

But it may again soon. And ice-choked scenes may also return to Europe. The 16th-century painter Pieter’s works, including the 1565 masterpiece “Hunters in the Snow,” make the now-temperate European landscapes look more like Lapland. Such frigid settings were commonplace during a period dating roughly from 1300 to 1850 because much of North America and Europe was in the pain of a little ice age. And now there is increasing evidence that the cold could return. A growing number of scientists believe conditions are right for another lasted cooldown, or small ice age. While no one is predicting an ice sheet like the one that covered the Northern Hemisphere with glaciers about 12,000 years ago, the next cooling trend could drop average temperatures 5 degrees over much of the United States and 10 degrees in the Northeast, northern Europe, and northern Asia.

Political changes since the last ice age could make survival far more difficult for the world’s poor. During previous cooling periods, these people simply picked up and moved south, but that doesn’t work in the modem world, of closed borders. “To the extent the climate change may cause rapid and extensive changes of fortune for those who live off the land, the inability to migrate may remove one of the major safety homelands for pitiful people,” says the report.

1The writer uses paintings in the first paragraph to say

A. impossible future climate change.

B. climate change of the last two centuries.

C. the river doesn’t freeze in winter anymore.

D. how George Washington led his troops across the river.

2Which of the following do scientists believe to be possible?

A. The temperature may drop over much of the Northern Hemisphere.

B. it will be colder than 12,000 years ago.

C. The entire Northern Hemisphere will be covered in ice.

D. Europe will look more like Lapland.

3Why is it difficult for the poor to survive the next age?

A. People don’t live in tribes anymore.

B. Politics are changing too fast today.

C. Climate change causes people live off the land.

D. Migration has become impossible because of closed borders.

4What is the best title of the passage?

A. A New Ice Age.

B. The Effect of Ice Age.

C. Prediction about the Ice Age.

D. Political and Climate Change.

【题目】Neil Gaiman is an English author of lots of science fiction and fantasy works.1His argument is that children shouldn’t be discouraged from reading what adults may think of as bad books. He is dead right.

A child in a library is an explorer venturing into a land where he has no map to guide him. This is part of the excitement. Everything is new.2His taste is yet unformed, and it cannot be formed until he has tried a variety of thing.

Not knowing what books are good or bad, an eager child will try very different things. 3At the age of eleven or twelve, I still read Enid Blyton Stevenson’s Kidnapped, was happily terrified by ghost stories and desperately wanted to be Rupert of Hentzau, a most attractive evil character in literature.

A child reads for enjoyment from all sorts of books. I can’t remember when I stopped reading comics like the Wizard and Hotspur, but I’m pretty sure that my reading of them continued even while I was delighted in Sherlock Holmes or in the short stories of HG Wells.

4 Never say “Don’t read that rubbish” or “You’re too young for that”. If he is really too young and the book is beyond him, he’ll put it aside. If he doesn’t, then he’s not too young, even if he misses much that an adult reader would find in it.

The only useful thing an adult can do is to give a child a book and say, “I think you might enjoy this.” Don’t complain if he doesn’t like it and turns to something that you think is bad. 5

A. Anything he reads may be attractive, too.

B. Everybody has a secret world inside of themselves.

C. For the young reader even a bad book has its own value.

D. Adults should be careful in what they say to a child about his reading.

E. Almost everyone who reads widely as an adult has read wildly as a child.

F. The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.

G. He is also a productive blogger and the point he gave in one of his blogs surely makes sense.
