In the village where I grew up, everyone knew an old man, that spent all his time in painting. People that lived in the village used to admiring his works and he often gave his paintings to his friends. Whether he was offered money, he would never take it. He said he painted for a pleasure. He once gave one of his paintings to my father, who actually wasn¡¯t interesting in art. Years later I found at our old house. By that time the old man had died and people had started to recognize his paintings as great work of art, which were worth lots of money. So an art gallery make me an offer of $5,000 for this painting and I nearly sold it, so then I decided not to. It reminds me of my childhood and of the old man who didn¡¯t real want to make money by painting.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Online Degrees

Today, you can earn a degree from a major university without ever having sat in one of their classrooms. Many colleges and universities are offering online courses and degree programs now.

Online Learning Programs

With a computer and an Internet connection, you can earn a degree from home, work, or anywhere else for that matter. Online degree programs follow much the same routines as traditional learning, with a few twists. There are lectures, but they won't be in person. There are assignments (×÷Òµ), but you won't hand them to your instructor. In most situations, you are free to ¡°go to class¡± when it fits your schedule. If you get a phone call during class, you don't have to miss anything. If you get sick, you don't have to ask for someone's notes, and you just visit the lecture later.

You'll communicate with your instructor by e£mail, chat room and instant messaging. Your classroom will live in a special software program. Contrary to popular belief, you will have close contact with other students and the instructor.

Evaluating the Program

There are a lot of questions to ask before you make your selection, such as£º

How do students interact with each other?

¡ïOnline programs can use chat rooms, instant messaging, teleconferencing, and video conferencing to communicate. The key is to find a program that has this interaction built into it and even requires it.

¡ïWhat kind of reputation does the school have?

It may seem simple£a good school will have a good online program. This reputation, however, may not be as straightforward as you think. It's not uncommon for a great school to have a weak program or two. So you'd better look at the overall quality of the school and make a judgment.

The Employers' View

As more and more employees get online degrees and use them in the workforce(Ö°³¡) , hiring managers will begin to feel more secure about the quality of education these people have.

¡¾1¡¿In which way is online education special?

A. If you get sick, you'll miss the lecture.

B. There are lectures, but you don't need to meet the lecturers.

C. If you get a phone call during class, you will miss something.

D. There are assignments, and you must hand them to your instructor.

¡¾2¡¿What is the most important part of online communication?

A. To use e£mails.

B. To look for a program with interaction.

C. To use chat rooms and instant messaging.

D. To use teleconferencing and video conferencing.

¡¾3¡¿For whom is the passage probably written?

A. College students.

B. Hiring managers.

C. Adult students.

D. High school students.

Dear Sir,

Having read about your newspaper¡¯s decision to start a campaign for protecting the environment, I decide to write you this letter.

The state of our park is very shocked, with rubbish everywhere. I was used to find a trip to the park very relaxing. Upon the arrival of spring, beautiful birds would sing happy in the park. I enjoyed this very much. Therefore, now I just find it tiring, because I have to pick up rubbish where I am going to sit. The grass is covered on plastic bags and food. I am sad that the young people of today do not clean up after themselves before he leave the park. There are so much interesting animals and insects living in our parks. It would be shame if they were destroyed because of people¡¯s activity there.

Yours

Wang Qiang

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Most of us will admit that on occasions we can be bad£tempered. This can be for a number of reasons.

¡¾1¡¿ As the body and mind are tired, it seems to take us less time to become angry just because of something that is of little importance. Young children are usually the cause of tiredness and it is highly likely that parents allow themselves to release(ÊÍ·Å) their exhaustion directly at the children. Children are very good at remembering these instances and it will affect them for a long time. ¡¾2¡¿

Diet and lifestyle can be key factors in causing a bad temper. Some people don't realize that their diet can directly affect their moods. Processed food and items that contain a lot of sugars, especially those that aren't natural sugars, can cause a rise in blood sugar. ¡¾3¡¿ Similarly, lifestyle choices can encourage bad tempers and poor moods, especially if drug and alcohol are used too frequently. ¡¾4¡¿

If you have noticed that you are becoming increasingly bad£tempered, it is important that you take steps to try and regain control. ¡¾5¡¿ After you find the cause, try and make positive changes to prevent this from occurring in the future.

A£®Find your ways to release your anger.

B£®Check what it is that causes the bad mood.

C£®Tiredness is often the most common reason.

D£®Managing your anger is good for your health.

E£®Therefore, it is important to have more patience when with children.

F£®This rise can have a very negative effect on moods and mental performance.

G£®So it is important to keep away from these temptations(ÓÕ»ó) for your own mental state.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿A friend of ours was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along, he began to see another man ¡¾1¡¿ the distance. As he grew nearer, he noticed that the local native kept ¡¾2¡¿(lean) down£¬picking something up and throwing it out into the water.

As our friend approached even ¡¾3¡¿(close), he noticed that man was picking up starfish and, one at ¡¾4¡¿ time, he was throwing them back into the water.

Our friend looked ¡¾5¡¿(puzzle) and said, ¡°Good evening, friend. I was wondering what you are doing.¡± ¡°I am throwing these starfish that ¡¾6¡¿(wash) up onto the shore back into the ocean. ¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Can wine really improve our health? ¡¾1¡¿ (science) are beginning to say ¡°Yes!¡±

Researchers have found that red wines contain antioxidants (¿¹Ñõ»¯¼Á), ¡¾2¡¿ help the body resist cancer and heart disease. ¡¾3¡¿(general), red wines contain more antioxidants than most white wines. So, the best bet for drinking wine for our health is to stick to the dryer red wines. ¡¾4¡¿, this doesn¡¯t give us freedom to get drunk every night. Don¡¯t overdo it¡ªbut adding a glass of red wine to your daily diet can definitely make ¡¾5¡¿difference to our health.

Paracelsus, the noted 16th-century Swiss physician ¡¾6¡¿ (write), ¡°Wine is a food, a medicine and a poison it¡¯s just a question of dose(¼ÁÁ¿).¡± As with almost any food or drink, wine ¡¾7¡¿(consume) in large doses can be harm to our health.

Most health officials agree that one or two four-ounce glasses of red wine per day can be¡¾8¡¿(benefit) to men, while women should limit their consumption to one four-ounce serving per day.

Professor Roger Corder, has spent years studying the evidence of health benefits ¡¾9¡¿red wine. In his new book, ¡°The Wine Diet¡±, he says he ¡¾10¡¿(convince) that most of us should include red wine in our everyday lifestyle.
