Strange things were happening in a countryside of northeast Hebei. For three days the water in the village wells rise and fell. Farmers noticed that the well walls had deep cracks in it . A smell gas came out of the cracks. In the farmyards, the chickens and even the pigs were so nervous to eat. Mice ran out of the fields looked for places to hide. Fish jumped out of their bowls and ponds. At about 3:00 am in July 28,1976, some people saw bright lights in the sky. The sound of planes could be heard about outside the city of Tangshan even no planes were in the sky. In the city, the water pipes in some buildings cracked and burst. But the one million people of the city, whom thought little of these events, were asleep as usual the night.

Life in the twenty-first century will be different from life today. Between then and now many changes will take place, but what will the changesbe?
The population is growing fast. There will be many people in world and most of them will live longer than people live now.
Computers will be much smaller and more useful, and there will be at least one in every home. And computer studies will be one of the important subjects in schools then.
People will work fewer hours than they do now and they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and travel. Traveling will be much cheaper and easier. And many more people will go to other countries for holidays.
There will be changes in our food, too. More land will be used for building new towns and houses for all the people. Then there will be less room for cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead they will eat more fruit and vegetable. Maybe people will be healthier.
Work in the future will be different, too. Dangerous and hard work will be done by robots. Because of this, many people will not have enough work to do. This will be a problem.

The American believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollyhood comedy(ϲ¾ç), that is exactly what happens.
Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical(µäÐ͵Ä) American way of life, except for one thing¡ª he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation's leader is that he is very nice!
The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearance. Dave is offered a chance to ¡°serve his country¡± by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.
Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic(¾µä).
The film is 100% American. However, if you've ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you'll enjoy Dave!

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿When we choose to worry over what we don't possess,we actually stand at a risk of losing whatever we already have.¡¾1¡¿Therefore,there is no way we can succeed in life unless our mind is first happy and satisfied and then yearns for more. Here are some ways to help you to be more grateful.

Choose to be grateful.Well, whether to complain about what you don't have or to be thankful for what you have is a conscious choice you make yourself.Treasure what you have and strive for what you need next. Some are always worrying over what they don't have or can't achieve in the present.¡¾2¡¿

Look around you. When in fear or frustration, look around yourself for examples of patience and gratitude.¡¾3¡¿ Observe how trees stand tall and brave the fury of storms, rains and the ever-changing seasons.

Think positive to achieve positive.¡¾5¡¿Have you ever noticed that if you keep telling yourself that the present tough times shall pass and you are happy with what you have, you actually get the.courage to deal with the crisis? The human mind is a powerful machine. To flunk positive and steer the course of actions that way is a power that lies absolutely within!

B.Look for hidden ways to be thankful.

C.Think about why you should be grateful.

D.After all,it is our mind that rules our body.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿If you plan to go abroad for your further education, first you should read something about the custom of the country. For example,in the United States,it is not customary to telephone someone very early in the morning. If you telephone him early in the day, while he is shaving or having breakfast,¡¾1¡¿.The same meaning is attached to telephone calls made after 11:00 p.m.If someone receives a call during sleeping hours,he assumes it's a matter of life or death.So¡¾2¡¿.

In social life, time plays a very important part.In the U.S.A. guests tend to feel they are not .0highly regarded if the invitation to a dinner party is extended only three or four days before the party date,¡¾3¡¿.In other areas of the world,it may be considered foolish to make an appointment too far in advance because plans which are made for a date more than a week away tend to be forgotten.¡¾4¡¿.Thus,misunderstandings arise between people from cultures that treat time differently.Being punctual is valued highly in American life, for example. If people are not punctual, ¡¾5¡¿.In the U.S. no one would think of keeping a business associate waiting for an hour,it would be too impolite.A person who is 5 minutes late is expected to make a short apology.

A.they will not be trusted

C.Different races understand it differently

D.the time chosen for the call communicates its importance

It'll soon be the birthday of one of my closest friends, Susie. I still cannot decide what to give her. She's a rare friend because she has been there for me all the time whenever I need a friend to talk to. I can always depend on her to be the first to arrive to give me advice when I have problems. I guess I am so lucky to have her as a friend.
It's more than seven years since I first met Susie in our school. I joined the theater group and she was a director then. At first I thought she was intimidating but in the end I realized that she needed to keep a strict image in order for her actors and actresses to take her seriously. And then during practice I got a chance to know her better. In fact, she was a friendly and warm-hearted person. Soon we become good friends.
I don't know exactly what to give my friend on her birthday as I believe she has everything. So it's really hard to buy her a gift she will like. This year I want something different and special but I don't know what to give. One day I searched the internet without any purpose and to my surprise there is a really lovely site where you can buy all kinds of gifts.
I scanned£¨ä¯ÀÀ£©some of their items and I found cool and exciting gifts. I chose a special personalized bracelet£¨ÊÖïí£©. I'm sure that this will look perfect on her. I put our arms as part of the design of the bracelet so that it'll remind us that we'll forever be friends. I can't wait to give her my gift but I won't tell her yet. I don't want to destroy the surprise.
£¨1£©Why does the author consider Susie as a rare friend?
A.Susie is good at solving problems.
B.She and the author have lots of things to talk about.
C.Susie is a friendly and warm-hearted person.
D.She can always offer help when the author is in need.
£¨2£©Finally the author found a nice gift for her friend_____
A.with the help of somebody else
B.while going online
C.while doing shopping in a store
D.without difficulty
£¨3£©The author wanted to put her and her friend's names in the bracelet in order to _____.
A.give her friend a big surprise
B.make the present more special
C.remind her friend of their difference between them.
D.make her friend remember their friendship forever.
