How would you like to learn more without having to study more? Here’s how:
1.Get to bed and go to sleep.Your performance, attention, and the ability to concentrate are damaged by lack of sleep.Teenagers need nine to ten hours of sleep a night for best performance.
2.Feed your head. The brain runs badly if it doesn’t get enough fuel. That means protein(蛋白质)and complex carbs (复合碳水化合物)-eggs and wheat bread for breakfast, say, rather than sugary cereal(含糖的麦片粥)and orange juice. The biggest mistake teens make is not to have breakfast or to go for sugar, which raises blood sugar levels.
3.Body exercise is brain exercise.Body exercise really improves brain performance, perhaps because it increases blood flow,or perhaps because it reduces stress and anxiety(焦虑).Twenty minutes of activity a day that raises your heart rate will do great good.
4.Learn now what you want to remember for the rest of your life.Teenage brains are much better at remembering things than the brains  of young children or adults.Scientists aren’t sure why.Whatever the reason, the teenage years are the time to learn new languages and master other lifelong skills.
5.Learn the power of risk taking.Adults are always worried about the downside of teenage risk?taking, and it’s true that teenagers are more likely than adults to get themselves in trouble by drinking and driving. But the fact that the parts of the brain that drive people to try new, risky, and exciting things appear to be more developed in teenagers can be a huge advantage.Pick certain challenges-difficult sports,a hard job, mastering a performance art, traveling overseas-and the teenage brain is able to deal with them. They have this power they’re given to go out and do it without fear.
6.Learn what you love.Because emotional(情感的)systems develop fast in teenager brains, teenagers learn things they’re interested in quickly and well.Their brains give them tools like attention on the project.

"Colour" and "color","favourite" and "favorite"... Have you ever wondered why Americans spell those words without a "u"? Is it because they are lazy?

Of course not. In fact, the difference in spelling was created by Noah Webster (1758-1843). He is a teacher who reformed English to make American identity stronger. Linguists (语言学家) celebrated his 250th birthday on October 16. After the Revolutionary War (1775~ 1783),Webster believed that Americans should have their own dictionary, rather than rely on British versions (版本). He dropped the British "u" in some words. And he changed "centre" into "center" for children to learn English by spelling words more like they sounded.

Webster wasn't shy about expressing his opinions. In defining (定义) preposterous (unreasonable),he wrote: "A republican government in the hands of females is preposterous."

Webster spent 28 years on the project before completing the 70,000-word dictionary in 1828 with his American-style spellings. He also added local words. His dictionary was widely used in schools. Linguists believed it helped a new nation achieve unity and cultural independence at a time when most were focused on political freedom.

"He was the shaper of our language and the shaper of American identity,"said Joshua Kendall, who is working on a biography (传记) about Webster. "He at last bonded (联合)us through our language."

3.Which of the following word can best describe Noah Webster’s work?

A.Interesting.        B.Meaningful.        C.Unfinished.        D.Boring.

B.Because he wanted to show that the USA is stronger than the UK.

5.When did Noah Webster probably begin his project of the dictionary?

A.In 1758.           B.In 1783.           C.In 1800.           D.In 1828.

World top-ranked badminton player Lin Dan said last Friday that he was a better player than Taufik Hidayat in the year of 2006 despite losing the Asian Games single title to the Indonesian Olympic champion.

“I have ranked No.1 in the world for two straight years and I think people can easily come to a conclusion on who is a better player for the whole year,” said Lin Dan, also known as Super Dan in the badminton world because of his marvelous performance in the sport.

Hidayat beat Lin 21-15, 22-20 to give Indonesia its second gold medal in Doha on December 9, retaining his Asian Games singles title and avenging(报仇) two losses to the badminton world champion.

Lin, 23, led China to the men’s team title after defeating Hidayat twice in three days, in the preliminary round and in the semifinals of the Asian Games.

In their third meeting, Lin came up against a better-prepared Hidayat than he had encountered previously.

Hidayat was cheered on by the noisy support from dancing and flag-waving Indonesian fans, who had converted the badminton arena into a national celebration even before the two players stepped onto the court.

There’s been a lot of acrimony(言语的刻毒) between Hidayat and Lin, who this year won the single title in the world championships after former champion Hidayat crashed out in the quarterfinals.

In Doha, Hidayat was quoted as calling Lin “arrogant” before the event began, but the two stars played down the rift (a situation where two people dislike each other).

“It’s no problem, we’re close friends,” said Hidayat. “The media fabricated it.”

Lin said last Friday in Beijing that he and Hidayat remain friends despite all the rumors(谣言).
