When Joshua Blue, a head teacher at the Kennedy, hosts a lecture for his students, he wears a light violet-colored tie. "You don't want so many bright colors that the kids will get distracted," said Blue. Colors give off very specific signals, and different tie colors stand for very different impacts. Wondering what color tie to wear to your next meeting? Here's how to choose the perfect color tie for every occasion:
All powerful reds
It's not a coincidence(巧合)that many politicians wear red-colored ties with light shirts and darker suits. "Red is the powerful color," said Mark Woodman, a trend analyst who studies color in Laurel, Maryland. "There’s something about red that always comes back to strength and passion.” But the tone of your reds matters, too. Darker reds can help build trust, while lighter red and pink ties can be more of a statement about your personal style and be associated with creativity. When you want to convey a sense of ambition, consider a shiny red.
Royal purples
Ross Znavor, an executive in financial services in New York, wears purple ties rather than red to business meetings because the color shows a bit of self-confidence and helps him create lasting first impressions. Purple, traditionally a sign of royalty and wealth is becoming more acceptable in the workplace.
Black affairs
"While you might not wear them to meetings on a regular basis, wearing black ties to a cocktail party or even a dinner is unique and attractive," said Zyla. But remember: the formal black color can feel aggressive in many situations. "Avoid it if you are a green-hand at work," Zyla said.
Right blues
Afraid of sending the wrong message with your tie color? Consider blue as the all-purpose tie. Blue ties are a good investment because the color reminds people of the sky and ocean. "Blue is the safest color to wear," Lindsay said.
1.Why do many politicians prefer red-colored ties?
A. Because they often wear light shirts and darker suits.
B. Because they want to get promoted.
C. Because red is related to strength and passion.
D. Because red gets their message across easily.
2.Who will probably choose the purple ties?
A. Politicians. B. Businessmen.
C. Artists. D. Head teachers.
3.What color tie will you consider if you are a green-hand at work?
A. Red. B. Purple.

Some kids love handwriting, but others hate when it’s time to put their pen to paper. Maybe they are worried about their handwriting. Are you one of them? 1. Here are five steps that really work!
Get a great grasp
Try this — hold your pencil at the top and try to write your name. Pretty hard? But when you hold your pencil the correct way, writing is much easier. 2. Hold it in place with your thumb, and your index (食指) and middle fingers.
Let the lines be your guide
Lined paper is your friend! Those lines can help you create letters that are the right size and proportion (均衡).3. Also be sure to fill up the lined space completely. Those capital letters should be from the bottom line to the top one.
Slow down
If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. If you rush, it’s hard to control where you stop and start your letters.
Lower the pressure
4.That makes it harder to make the smooth lines. Try easing up and don’t hold the pencil too tightly.
5.
Lots of games require you to write or draw pictures. So even though it’s not schoolwork, you’re still using the skills you need to control your pen better.
A. Play games
B. Ask for more advice
C. So “a” should be half the height of a capital “A”.
D. You’ve been writing since you were a little kid.
E. Some kids press down really hard when they write.
F. The good news is that just about everyone can improve their handwriting.
G. The best way to hold a pen or pencil is to let it rest next to the base of your thumb.

There’s no doubt that our character has a profound effect on our future. What we must remember, however, is not merely how powerful character is in influencing our fate (命运), but how powerful we are in shaping our own character and, therefore, our own fate. Character may determine our fate, but character is not determined by fate.
It’s a common mistake to think of character as something that is fully formed and fixed very early in life. It calls to mind old proverbs like “A leopard can’t change its spots” and “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
This perspective that our character is “etched in stone” is supported by a great deal of modern psychology emphasizing self-acceptance. As Popeye says, “I am what I am.” The hidden message is: Don’t expect me to be more, better, or different.
Finally, these views of humanity totally undervalue the lifelong potential for growth that comes with the power of reflection and choice.
How depressing it would be to believe that we can’t choose to be better, more honest, more respectful, more responsible, and more caring. None of us should give up the personal seeking to improve our character. Not because we’re bad, we don’t have to be sick to get better, but because we’re not as good as we could be.
There are so many things in life we can’t control, whether we’re beautiful or smart, whether we had good parents or bad, whether we grew up with affirmation or negation. It’s inspiring to remember that nothing but moral will power is needed to make us better.
No, it isn’t easy. But if we make a great effort to become more aware of the habits of heart and mind that drive our behavior, we can begin to place new emphasis on our higher values so that we become what we want our children to think we are.
1.What is the best title of the passage?
A. We shape our own character
B. Character determines our fate
C. Character is fully formed and fixed
D. We must meet what our children need
2.The author agrees that ________.
A. a leopard can't change its spots
B. in life we must attach importance to self-acceptance
C. we shouldn’t expect us to be more different
D. character is not fully formed and fixed very early
3.In the author’s opinion, which of the following is TRUE?
A. We can’t choose to be better.
B. We should seek to improve our character for we’re bad enough.
C. We should value our lifelong potential for growth.
D. We should make choices constantly.
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A. It is not difficult to improve ourselves.
B. We must try our best to be as good as possible.
C. Our children should copy our behavior.
D. We should control as many things as possible in life.
