It was 7:15 in the morning of February 8, 2007. I was walking along Park Road towards the east while an old man came out of the park on the other sides of the street. Then I saw a yellow car drive up Third Street and made a right turn into Park Road. The next moment the car hit the man while she was crossing the road. He fell with a cry. The car didn't stop and drive off at full speed heading west. I noticed the driver was young woman wore a pair of glasses and the plate number was AC864. After two minutes later, I stopped a passed car and took the old man to the nearest hospital.

Onmy first day in the capital, I visited the Old Tower which stands on a hill near the city centre. There was stairs leading to the top, so I decided to take the lift. At the top there was a big balcony there visitors could stand and enjoying the view. It was magnificent ¨C you could see whole city, the river and the hills beyond. In my way back from the Tower, I went past the mainly square in the city centre. I stopped at a stall to have some more orange juice, sat there and watched the traffic for a while. The square was very busy, with cars, buses, bicycles and pedestrians gone in all directions. In the centre of the square there was a policeman controlling the traffic.

Last week, our class was on duty in the cafeteria(ʳÌÃ) for student self-management. On the first day, I ¡¾1¡¿ (shock) to see so much leftover food thrown away by students. What ¡¾2¡¿ waste! Being concerned about it, my classmates and I had a ¡¾3¡¿ (heat) discussion on how ¡¾4¡¿ (solve) the problem. Lots of good ideas came up, such as holding class meetings, putting up wall newspapers and charging a fine for wasting food. ¡¾5¡¿ (final), we all agreed that a wall newspaper would be the best choice.
The next day, we put our idea into reality. Towards lunch time, we put up a wall newspaper outside the school cafeteria, ¡¾6¡¿ (call) on students not to waste food. Many students gathered around to read and ¡¾7¡¿ (express) their support. To my great delight, there were changes soon. In the cafeteria, I found the trays returned after lunch all empty ¡¾8¡¿ any leftover. Food ¡¾9¡¿ (save) and the dining hall was cleaner. Seeing this, I felt relieved and proud of ¡¾10¡¿ we had done.

Put a group of strangers in a room together, and they¡¯ll probably start a conversation. ¡°Hot today, isn¡¯t it?¡± one might say. ¡°You said it,¡± another replies.
Why do we talk so much about the weather? When we meet new people, we don¡¯t begin by telling them our life story. We start with small talk, a polite conversation about something like traffic or weather.
Research suggests that small talk can build new friendships. When we begin conversations with new people, we want to feel comfortable, and so do they. We use small talk to find common interests. Once we have a common interest, a friendship can begin.
Small talk even helps people get a job. In order to impress at a job interview, you need to bond with the interviewer right away. Proper small talk can make that first impression get you the job.
So, how can you make small talk lead to a new friendship or job? First off, find common ground. Select something around you that you share with the other person.
Next, keep the conversation going. Compliment (ÔÞÃÀ) the other person to make him or her feel comfortable, and ask questions to show interest.
Third, keep eye contact. When you loop people in the eye, they feel you appreciate what they are saying. It makes you appear honest and build trust.
Naturally, shy people might not have enough confidence to start up conversations with strangers. Talking to someone you don¡¯t know is not the easiest thing to do! Some experts say with more practice, small take does get easier.
Some people avoid small talk because they dislike discussing things like traffic or weather. For them, they are just too small. However, when you think about it, small talk is anything but small. In fact, it is actually a very big deal!
