A group of people from Denmark have formed the B-Society. According to them, human beings are divided into types: A-People, and B-People. A-People have no problem getting up in the morning, and operate much better earlier in the day. However, B-people are better later in the day. “I’m useless early in the morning,” says one of the members of the B-Society.”All I can do is drink coffee, and stare into space. People used to get up early because they had to feed the animals. But I haven’t got any cows or chickens, so I can sleep late,” She adds. Since the society was set up, the B-Society has welcomed several thousand members.

Right now, the B-Society is fighting hard for businesses to join its B-certification (证明) list. Companies that are “B-certified” basically give their employees the opportunity to come in when they want. In some companies, employees arrive at any time up to 3:30 pm --- each to their own rhythm (节奏).

And it is not just businesses that are benefiting from this. Teenagers who can’t get out of bed in the morning, and parents who never quite get the kids to school on time, can now benefit from B-classes. From next year, a school in Copenhagen will offer classes which start later in the day (at 10 instead of eight). And even the government seems to like the idea.

The B-Society was founded by Camilla Kring, a professor from the University of Copenhagen. On her website, she says, “When B-people’s work rhythms are considered at the work place, their productivity (生产力) and quality of life is increased, which can increase productivity for the entire organization.”

She adds that, “B-Society will create a new daily rhythm in schools and other institutions (机构) as an alternative to the current rhythm of ‘early at work and early at home’. We are working for the establishment of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as universities that open between 10 am and 8 pm.”

Would you like to work for a B-certified company?

1. According to the text, who belong to the B-Society?

A. Late risers. B. Businessmen.

C. Animal lovers. D. Sleep experts.

2. In B-certified companies, employees can ____.

A. get more working opportunities

B. join any other companies

C. work on any days they choose

D. go to work at any time of a day

3.In Camilla Kring’s opinion, B-people _______.

A. are more hard-working than A-people

B. have a better quality of life than A-people

C. are more productive if given more freedom

D. like the rhythm of “early at work, early at home”

4.The author’s purpose in writing this text is to _____.

A. stress the importance of getting up early

B. express his attitude towards the B-Society

C. introduce a group having a special daily rhythm

D. call on people to work for B-certified companies

Singles' Day ---- the Chinese opposite of Valentine’s Day has turned into a massive online shopping event. It is a day when single people are supposed to buy themselves presents. But there are sociological reasons behind China's “celebration” of single life. And the imbalance could have big consequences for the country.

There were 34 million more men than women in China in 2011. Part of that is natural – usually there are 105 boys born for every 100 girls. But the Chinese gender ratio (性别比例) at birth is much more obvious. It was 116 boys to 100 girls in 2012. The one child policy is largely to blame. Brought in to limit population expansion, the policy allows only one child per family. But because male children are seen as more valuable, as well as more likely to support their parents in old age, some parents choose to have a son over a daughter. The result is that large numbers of men will likely never get married. In fact, one study has predicted that by 2030, 1 in 5 Chinese men in their 30s will never have married, while another states that 94% of unmarried people in China are men.

Traditionally, China h as seen high levels of marriage, usually among the young. Besides, the increased education and career opportunities for women have meant that marriages are happening later. It is also traditional that women often marry men of a higher socioeconomic status than themselves. So women at the top and men at the bottom find themselves alone. One study has even suggested a link between an imbalanced gender ratio and growth in violent crime in the country.

Singles’ Day can’t solve all the problems China’s singles face. Indeed, it is possible that it is causing even more problems, as men resort to increasingly risky lines of work to increase their chances of gaining money and thus a wife. I am worried that as money starts to overcome romance, there is evidence that China ' s marriage market is increasingly materialistic.

1.In 2012, if 50 girls were born, how many boys were probably born?

A. 50. B. 52. C. 58. D. 60.

2.What made women in China get married late?

A. Their support of the government’s late marriage policy.

B. Their higher education level and more work chances.

C. That they expect to enjoy their single time when young.

D. That there are too many excellent young men to choose from.

3.What’s the writer’s attitude to the imbalance gender ratio in China?

A. Optimistic B. Concerned

C. Indifferent D. Unknown

4.We can learn from the passage that .

A. Singles' Day is celebrated all over the world.

B. by 2030, 1 in 5 Chinese women in their 30s will be out of marriage.

C. an imbalanced gender ratio is related to the growth in violent crime.

D. Singles' Day will solve all the problems China’s singles face.

Being able to count at least ten people as friends makes us happy, but those with five or fewer are likely to be miserable, researchers say. Their study of hundreds of men and women also found t hat people who feel satisfied with their lives always have lots of close friends and regularly make new ones. While it is not clear whether our friends make us happy or we make friends because we are happy, the researchers say it is clear that we should maintain our friendships. Psychologist RichardTunney said, “Whatever the reason is, actively working on friendships in the same way as to maintain a marriage is a prerequisite(必备条件) to happiness. ”Dr. Tunney, of Nottingham University, quizzed more than 1,700 people about their satisfaction with their lives and the state of their friendships. Those with five friends or fewer had just a 40 percent chance of being happy. In other words they were more likely to be unhappy than happy. Ten was the first number at which people were more likely to be happy than unhappy. The happiest people were those with dozens of friends, according to the study, which was carried out for the National Lottery(彩票).

For women, this meant having 33 friends;for men, the number was 49. Dr. Tunney said,“People who were extremely satisfied with their lives had twice the number of friends of people who were extremely dissatisfied. ” Women tended to have fewer friends than men but formed tighter relationships. Interestingly, the study found that childhood friends are no more likely to make us happy than people we become close to later in life. Lottery winners, however, have a differentopinion on life. They are always happier than others despite spending their time with asmall circle of old friends. This could be because they trust people they’ve known for along time.

Sure, it’s good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.

And yes, it’s good to get along with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to understand the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life.

“But really, there’s one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. When you do, learning bursts right open,” says Evelyn Vuko, a longtime teacher who writes an education column called “Teacher Says” for the Washington Post newspaper.

In fact, kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new material and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school life, such as bullying.

As a kid in a primary or middle school, you’re at a wonderful stage in your life. You’re like a sponge (海绵), able to absorb lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, you’re able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, in most cases, is very excited to be the person who’s giving you all that material and helping you make it. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if you’re open to what they’re teaching you. That’s why they wanted to be teachers in the first place—to teach!

Some kids may be able to learn in any situation, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things aren’t going well, they won’t learn as well and won’t enjoy being in class.

1.In the passage, the author mainly talks about _______.

A. how to get along well with others

B. how much the students are expected of to get along with teachers

C. the importance of a good relation with teachers

D. how to make the time in the classroom more pleasant

2.“Learning bursts right open” in the third paragraph really means _______.

A. there will be more problems with learning

B. you find an opening to learning

C. learning becomes easier for you at once

D. there will be no problems at all with learning

3.Which of the comments is FALSE on teachers and their work according to the passage?

A. Teachers sometimes have the same feelings as students do.

B. Teachers are excited even if you wouldn’t like to accept their teaching.

C. Though few, there are still some students who can learn even if they don’t like the teacher.

D. Having a bad relationship with your teachers does more or less harm to your studies.
