(2013·高考湖南卷,C)It’s such a happylooking library, painted yellow, decorated with palmtree stickers and sheltered from the Florida sun by its own roof.About the size of a microwave oven,it’s pedestrianfriendly, too, waiting for book lovers next to a sidewalk in Palm Beach County Estates, along the northern boundary of Palm Beach Gardens.
It’s a library built with love.
A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the Little Free Library organization,a Wisconsinbased nonprofit that aims to promote literacy and build a sense of community in a neighborhood by making books freely available, she announced to her family of four,“That’s what we’re going to do for our spring break!”
Son Austin, now a 10thgrader,didn’t see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox. But Janey insisted, and husband Peter unwillingly got to work. The 51yearold owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he’d built years earlier for daughter Abbie’s toy horses, and made a door of glass.
After adding the library’s final touches (装点),the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to“take a book, return a book,”and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County.
They stocked it with 20 or so books they’d already read,a mix of science fiction, reference titles, novels and kids’ favorites.“I told them, keep in mind that you might not see it again,”said Janey,a stayathome mom.
Since then, the collection keeps replenishing (补充) itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.
The project’s best payoff, says Peter, are the thankyou notes left behind.“We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular.”

根据第一段最后一句“...it’s pedestrianfriendly,too,waiting for book lovers next to a sidewalk...”
根据第三段首句“A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the...”
根据第四段第一句“Son Austin,now a 10thgrader,didn’t see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox.”
根据第五段第一句“...the family hung a signboard on the front,instructing users to‘take a book,return a book,’and making...” 布告板是the family制作并悬挂的,而不是使用者,故A项错误;B项“这标志着对图书馆的最后装点”与原文中的“After adding the library’s final touches...”
根据倒数第二段“Since then, the collection keeps replenishing(补充)itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.”

Coin confusion
Rachel looked through troubled eyes at her sister and said, "I wouldn't have thought Eric would be a thief." Her sister Sarah replied, "Whoa, that's a      accusation to make against your best friend!"
Rachel remembered two days ago when she had brought out her coin collection for Eric to     . At the end of that day, Rachel's mother asked her to do her a favor, so she asked her friend," Is it okay if I leave you for a few minutes?" Eric said, "Go ahead. I’ll clean up here,"      at the piles of coins on the floor.
When Rachel returned, it never occurred to her to     her coins until two days later that she realized some quarters were      .
Sarah said, "Why don't you just ask him?"
"Ask him what? Hey, best friend, did you       my coin collection?" Rachel thought for a moment,        if that would be a good idea. The theft of her collection left her with a feeling of        "How could I have misjudged my friend's       ?"
The next day Rachel went to Eric's house. Eric was acting funny sort of nervous, like he couldn't be       . In fact, Rachel thought Eric acted like someone with a secret. Anger blossomed as Rachel watched Eric pretend to be kind,      Eric had obviously stolen from her. Rachel finally could not stand it anymore and stood up. Suddenly, Eric     ,"I can't stand it anymore!" Rachel was astonished at hearing her own      burst forth from her friend! Instead of sounding     , Eric sounded excited. He pulled something from underneath the chair.
"Go to open it! I was going to wait until your birthday, but I can't wait." Slowly, Rachel lifted the top of the     . Laid out in front of her were all of the quarters from her coin collection. Each quarter was in its own      in a new collection case. Each quarter shone like it was new.
Rachel felt      rush over her neck and ears. She said     , "Thank you! This means... a great deal to me." She was grateful that Eric had cut her      before she said something she would     . Eric was exactly the type of person she wanted as a friend!

Today,we are told, children don’t spend enough time in the fresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or a TV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.
But now 400 organizations in the UK,from playgroups to the National Health Service, are encouraging children to have some“wild time”.They want kids to swap at least 30 minutes of watching TV or playing computer games for time playing outside.Activities such as building dens, climbing trees, rummaging for conkers and playing hide and seek are just some of the things kids can do. Even if they live in a city, they can go on adventures in the garden or the park.
Children often need a helping hand from mum and dad. They need to be shown what to do and where to go.Andy Simpson from National Health Service says,“We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does for their kids’ development, independence and creativity,by giving wild time a go”.
So despite the complicated world that young people grow up in now,it seems that going back to basics and experiencing“nature’s playground”is what modern children need.David Bond from Project Wild Thing says,“We need to make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing this generation of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took for granted”.

The Great Barn Adventure
One morning when I was 11, I explored the town’s abandoned round grain barn(谷仓). I found a chained sliding door that was wide enough for me to pass through.
Inside, there was a heavy smell of dead mice in the dark. After my eyes adjusted, I noticed a shaft (升降机井) that rose all the way to the top of the barn. On one side was a one-man elevator with a long rope and roller.
I stepped onto the platform and gave the rope a drag and the elevator began sliding up the shaft, but stopped halfway. After a brief panic attack, I noticed holes in the wall at regular intervals, forming a ladder. For reasons known only to an 11-year-old, I decided it would be better to go up than down. So, with shaking hands, I began climbing the wall.
After what seemed like forever, I reached the top of the shaft. I stood up, dusted myself off and found absolutely nothing of interest. It was just an empty room with a ladder leading up to the roof. I climbed all the way up here for this? Then I noticed a fire extinguisher(灭火器),which I’d always wanted to shoot off. So this was the chance of a lifetime. I tried it, and, much to my surprise, the thing worked! It shot out a thick cloud of powder that instantly filled the room. I couldn’t breathe. I was going to choke to death, and they’d probably never even find my body.
Luckily, I remembered the ladder to the roof. I climbed up, popped the straw roof and saw a bright blue sky.
I suddenly realized the dust and powder pouring out of the top could draw attention. So when the dust had settled, I climbed down and slipped out of the chained door. I’m not sure if I was more excited about being alive or about not being caught, but I ran all the way back home.

Part-time jobs for 15 and 16 years olds
Waiter / Waitress
A job as a waiter or waitress is a good choice for 16-year-olds. Not only can one earn $9-$12 an hour, but they can also get the tips (小费). People think what I do is so wonderful because I interview stars. And I have to admit that when I first started working at Sassy in 1987 I was excited about that part of my job for the first couple of months, anyway. Then I noticed how stars would fool me around for months. I could never get enough time with a star to find out anything interesting, and some acted just simply rudely. I started hating the way I was treated, and I was really disappointed to see that these people I had worshipped (崇拜)before were pretty ordinary. So I decided I would just tell the truth instead of keeping up their myths(神秘).If the star was a bad guy, I would say so. If I thought anyone was stupid, I did not hold back that information.
I thought readers would appreciate that kind of honesty. Surprisingly, many of them hated me for it. I have gotten so many attacks on my character. In their eyes, being famous is everything, even more desirable than being truly creative and talented
Why do we need stars? In fact, the media created stars to satisfy our basic need for gossip (闲话).Over time, talking about people we have never met and we are never likely to meet has become what we are crazy about. Thus, some people are more interested in the personal lives of the stars than in the lives of their own family and their own friends. That is why it is so ridiculous when a star wants to discuss only his or her work in an interview -as we care. We want the dirt on their personal lives.
There is another reason we worship stars. As a whole, our society is not as religious as it once was. It seems that people need something to fulfill them the way religion once did. Star worship exists as an unfulfilling desire for true heroes.
We make them stars, but then their reputation makes us feel unimportant, and we truly feel better about ourselves when they die. I am part of this whole process. No wonder I feel soiled at the end of workday.
小题1:What are the stars like according to the author?
A. They always treat others rudely.
B. They always talk about something dull.
C. They are acutually ordinary people.
D. They are usually honest and polite,
小题2:We worship stars because ______.
A,  we need true mental heroes to support us
B.  we can learn something useful from famous stars
C.  we concern about the stars ,family and friends
D.  we like talking about the stars ,dressing styles
小题3:When the author is writing this article ,his tone sounds  ______.
A,  excited B. angry    C. worried  D. calm
小题4:What is the main purpose of the author writing the passage?
A. To show the disadvantages of working with stars.
B. To remind us not to worship famous stars blindly.
C. To laugh at the failures of stars he has interviewed.
D. To talk about the reasons why we worship stars.
