Choosing the right job is probably one of the most important decisions we have to make in life, and it is frequently one of the hardest decisions we have to make. One important question that you might ask yourself is: “How do I get a good job?” 【1】 There are people who can answer an insignificant advertisement in the local paper and land the best job in the world; others write to all sorts of places all over the country, and never seem to get a reply at all. Still others believe that the in person, door-to-door approach is by far the best way to get a job; and then there are those who, through no active decision of their own, just seem to be in the right place at the right time. 【2】 He used to spend a lot of his free time down by the sea watching the tall ships, but never thinking that he might one day sail one of them. His father was a farmer, and being a sailor could never be anything for the boy but an idle dream. One day, on his usual wandering, he heard the captain of the ship complaining that he could not sail because one member of his crew was sick. Without stopping to think, the lad(少年) offered to take his place. 【3】 .
【4】 If the lad had gone home to ponder(考虑)his decision for a week, he may have missed his chance. It is one thing to be offered an opportunity; it is another to take it and use it well. Sometimes we hear stories about people who break all the rules and still seem to land plum jobs(美差). When you go for a job interview or fill out an application, you are expected to say nice things about the company to which you are applying. 【5】 And within a year this person had become general manger of the company.
A.This story also illustrates the importance of seizing an opportunity when it presents itself.
B.People find jobs in an infinite number of ways.
C.It’s almost impossible to find a good job by answering advertisement in newspapers.
D.Take for example the young man who wanted to be a sailor.
E.But there was one person who landed an excellent job by telling the interviewer all the company’s faults.
F.He spent the rest of his life happily sailing the ships he had always loved.
G.It is very important to seize an opportunity when it presents itself.
【答案】
【1】B
【2】D
【3】F
【4】A
【5】E
It is one thing to be offered an opportunity; it is another thing to take it and use it well.有机会是一回事,取得这次机会并用好它又是另外一回事.选项A是此段的论点。这个故事在举例说明抓住机遇的重要性。
【5】E从此段的论点“Sometimes we hear stories about people who break all the rules and still seem to land plum jobs”便能看出,只有选与此空前面的观点相反的选项E,才能和后面的结果相符合。E选项中的but表示转折。

【题目】阅读理解。
Don’t be surprised if you see a group of people dancing or shouting on the square. They are a flash mob (快闪族). Confused by their name? Actually, a flash mob, organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communications networks, is a group of people who gather suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a period of time, such as exchanging books, coming together to look at the sky, waving their hands and shouting something at the top of their lungs for 30 seconds, and then quickly disappear before the police can arrive.
Bill Wasik, senior editor of Harper’s Magazine, organized the first flash mob in Manhattan in May 2003 and the first successful flash mob gathered on June 3, 2003 at Macy’s department store involving 100 people gathering on Macy’s Department Store. Following this, about 200 people flooded the lobby of the Hyatt hotel, applauding in one voice for fifteen seconds, and next participants pretending to be tourists on a trip invaded a shoe shop in Soho. A later mob saw hundreds of people in Central Park making bird noises.
Wasik claimed that he created flash mobs as a social experiment designed to tease hipsters (追逐时尚的人), and highlight the cultural atmosphere of agreement and of being part of “the next big thing”. Many web logs, chat rooms and Web groups are devoted to the craze. Though flash mobs were originally regarded as useless, the concept has already developed for the benefit of political and social events. Flash mobbing takes advantage of the efficiency of communicating information on Websites and by email, and protesters can similarly use the “on and off” concept to be involved in political events. Such flash mob gatherings can sometimes shock or frighten people who are not aware of what is taking place. They also have enormous economic potential, such as using flash mobs to advertise a product.
The flash mob is now becoming more and more popular. People use it to do many things. For example, in 2009, hundreds of Michael Jackson’s fans took part in a flash mob to remember him, gathering outside the railway station in Liverpool, singing and dancing Michael’s famous song, beat it together. In another example, some people took part in a flash mob to warn people against negative words. Flash mobs give people from all walks of life an opportunity to come together to create a memory.

A. give out leaflets of a brand bicycle to the passers-by
B. gather in public places performing and leave quickly
C. plan to go mountaineering on the first day of Horse Year
D. sit for days in front of the city hall for higher wages
【2】According to the passage, what contribute(s) most to the popularity of the flash mob?

【3】The purpose of the writing is .
A. to amuse and interest
B. to argue and advise

【题目】Steps to Retire as a Millionaire
Having a million-dollar savings is a retirement dream for many people.Making that dream come true requires some serious efforts. While success is never a sure thing, the steps outlined below will go a long way toward helping you achieve your objective.
【1】Vacations,cars,kids and all of life's other expenses take a big chunk(大块) out of your paycheck. To maximize your savings, you need to minimize your expenses.Buying a home you can afford and living a lifestyle that is below your means and not funded by credit cards are all necessities if you want to boost your savings.
【2】If you don't save, you'll never reach your goal.Obvious as this might seem, far too many people never even start to save.If your employer offers a 401(k) plan (一种养老保险),simply sign up for the plan and contributions will be automatically taken out of your paycheck, increasing your savings and decreasing your taxes. It's like getting a guaranteed return on your investment.Finding the cash to stash (隐藏起)may be a challenge, particularly when you're young, but don't let that stop you from pursuing future riches.
【3】If you are looking to grow your wealth over time, fixed income isn't likely to get the job done, and inflation (通货膨胀) can take a big chunk out of your savings.Investing in equities (股票) may have more risk, but is also statistically likely to lead to greater returns. For many of us,it's a risk we have to take if want to see our wealth grow.
【4】Part of long-term planning involves accepting the idea that setbacks will occur. If you are not prepared, these setbacks can put a stop to your savings efforts. While you can't avoid all of the bumps in the road, you can prepare in advance to reduce the damage they can do.
【5】Your income should rise as time passes. You'll get raises, you'll change jobs, and maybe you'll get married and become a two-income family.Every time more cash comes in to your pocket, you should increase the amount that you save. The key to reaching your goal as quickly as possible is to save as much as you can.
A. Watch Your Spending.
B. Prepare for Rainy Days.
C. Start Saving.
D. Get Aggressive.
E. Save More.
F. Set the Goal.
G. Have patience.

【题目】Everyone knows how the story of Cinderella does everything from sweeping the floor to cooking the meals before she meets the prince. If someone asked Cinderella, “Are there any kinds of household work that you particularly hate?” She probably would answer , “Why , none , of course. Housework is my duty!” In the real world, however, most people have certain dislikes for some kinds of household work. Two of these tasks are ironing(熨)clothes and washing dishes.
Ironing clothes is most hated because it is not a task that can be completed quickly or thoughtlessly. Each piece of clothing must be handled(处理)separately, so ironing a basket of them can take hours! If you do not follow directions carefully, it might become wrinkled and you have to start over. Perhaps that is why ironing is not a favorite thing to do. It calls for extreme attention to detail from beginning to end.
Another household job that many people dislike is washing dishes. Of course, some people claim that this work is no longer a problem because , we have dishwashers now! However, no one would argue that dishes, silverware, and especially pots and pans washed in a dishwasher don’t come out as clean as they do when washed by hand. For this reason, many of us continue to wash our dishes. And it is a job that not only takes a lot of energy but also requires the patience to wash and dry them. In addition, unlike ironing clothes, washing dishes is a thing that usually must be done every day. I don’t know how Cinderella felt about this particular task, but I believe that most people hate it as much as I do.
【1】For Cinderella, doing household work is __________.
A. what she hates to do
B. what she is responsible for
C. what she loves to do
D. what she is content with
【2】 Most people hate to do clothes-ironing because _________.
A. it takes a lot of time
B. it has to be done by one person
C. it must be handled skillfully
D. it needs careful planning
【3】 Many people still prefer washing dishes by hand to machine washing because _________.
A. hand washed dishes are cleaner
B. dishwashers are not so easily handled
C. some dishes cannot be washed by machine
D. washing dishes by hand is cheaper
【4】Ironing is different from washing dishes in that _________.
A. it requires patience
B. it is not a daily housework
C. it is not tiring
D. it needs less care
