In life people make many decisions, some of what are so important that they affect us greatly.

My latest decision is made when I entered Senior 3 in Miss Zhang's class. Since I was not good in English, Miss Zhang asked me to listen attentive in class and put down some important notes. Therefore, I was never a good listener. I went on in my own way, ignore her suggestions completely until Miss Zhang had talk with me. He made me realize the importance of note-taking.

From this experience, I have realized a good decision benefits from people. We should learn to take others’ advices and do the right things.

Europe’s deadly outbreak of a rare form of E. coli bacteria (大肠杆菌) has brought new attention to food safety issues. One of the problems when people get sick from food is that the simplest question is often difficult or even impossible to answer. Just what did the people eat that made them sick?

Of course, one way to avoid these medical mysteries is to keep dangerous organisms out of the food supply. This is easier said than done, but scientists keep looking for new ways.

Scientists in the United States have developed an experimental system that uses a high-tech optical scanner. The system is designed to identify the presence of contaminants(致污物) like soil or animal waste on fresh produce. These can be sources of E. coli. E. coli bacteria naturally live in the intestines (肠) of humans and many animals. Most kinds of E. coli are harmless but some can make people sick.

The new scanner can also show damage and imperfections that might make the produce unappealing to shoppers.

Scientists designed the system at a Department of Agriculture research center in Beltsville, Maryland. Moon Kim of the Agricultural Research Service led the team.

MOON KIM: “We were requested, we were asked, to develop a method to detect contamination in produce. So we started with the apple as the model sample.”

The scanner uses a high-speed camera placed over the conveyer belt that moves the produce along. As the apples move along the belt, the scanner captures images of each piece of fruit.

Moon Kim says the team hopes the system will be available before long.

MOON KIM: “We are targeting for development in commercial plants for the next several years.”

The scanner can direct a sorting machine to separate the bad apples from the good ones. The system is currently able to show the surface of only half the apple as it speeds by. The inventers hope to improve the process so it can show the whole surface.

1.What is the main topic of the text?

A. Bacteria B. A high-tech scanner

C. A camera D. Food safety

2.E. coli bacteria ________.

A. broke out all over the world

B. comes from soil or animal waste

C. is extremely harmful to health

D. does not cause illness

3.The high-tech scanner ________.

A. can help to sort out different fruits

B. make the produce appeal to shoppers

C. can only capture images of the whole apple

D. can identify the presence of contaminants

4.What can be inferred from the text?

A. The scanner needs to be improved.

B. The scanner will be available in the next several years.

C. Moon Kim is unwilling to develop the scanner.

D. The scanner is connected to a sorting machine.

The oceans are unique to our planet. No other planet in our solar system has liquid water. The oceans cover about 70% of the earth's surface. They contain about 97% of the earth's water supply. Life on earth originated in the seas. The oceans continue to be home to an incredible number of plants and animals.

We know very little about the oceans. Because they are so deep and dark, they are hard to study. But scientists are discovering new strange creatures all the time. We are learning more by using satellites to look at the oceans' surfaces and by using buoys (航标) to measure temperature and saltiness. Special vehicles can now travel deep into the dark oceans to see what mysteries can be discovered.

More of the sun's heat is assimilated by water along the equator than at the poles. This means the water at the equator is warmer than water at the poles. These different water temperatures cause the water in the oceans to move. This is called an ocean current.

The air above ocean currents also moves. The warm or cold ocean air moves over the land as wind. Oceans are also a really important part of the water cycle. Evaporation (蒸发) from oceans creates most of the world's rainfall. Plants on land need the rain to absorb nutrients from the soil.

The oceans are also home to all kinds of sea life. These include fish, whales, dolphins, octopi, lobsters, crabs and shrimps. There are also jellyfish and starfish. Many kinds of plants, such as plankton, kelp and sea grass are part of the "forest of the seafloor."

Carbon dioxide in-oxygen out! Oceans help to capture and store carbon dioxide(C02). They are the largest natural "carbon sinks" in the world. Oceans trap about 1/4 of the CO2 that humans put into the air. Oceans also release oxygen. Half of the world's oxygen is produced by these tiny plants!

1.What does the author think of oceans?

A. They are amazing. B. They are common.

C. They are boundless. D. They are unimaginable.

【小题2 To know more about the mysterious oceans, ________.

A. scientists use satellites in the oceans

B. scientists are discovering new strange creatures

C. scientists are using satellites to monitor the depth of oceans

D. scientists are introducing scientific equipment in the research

2.What does the underlined word "assimilated" mean in the passage?

A. Taken in. B. Given off.

C. Cut down. D. Held back.

3.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.

A. oceans produce much carbon dioxide

B. it is not safe to live by the oceans

C. oceans provide humans with rich resources

D. humans can only depend on oceans for water

A developer edition of Sony’s augmented reality smart glasses will go on sale in ten countries next month, the tech giant has announced.

Pre-orders for the SmartEyeglass, costing $840 (£620), are now being taken in the UK and Germany, with Japan and the US to follow shortly. The black-framed glasses are compatible (兼容的) with recent Android operating systems. Last month Google announced that it was withdrawing its smart glasses for redevelopment. Sony’s initial model will come with a software development kit to encourage people to design apps for it, the company said.

The glasses, which weigh 77g, contain an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, image and brightness sensors, 3-megapixel camera and a microphone. They also come with a controller, designed to be attached to clothing, which contains a speaker, touch sensor and the device’s battery. Text is displayed in front of the wearer in monochrome green.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook has been open about his dislike of glasses as a wearable device. “We always thought that glasses were not a smart move, from a point of view that people would not really want to wear them,” he told the New Yorker. “They were intrusive (闯入的), instead of pushing technology to the background, as we’ve always believed.”

Stuart Miles, founder of tech site Pocket-lint, said: “I think [Sony is] wasting their time, energy and effort.”

“Google Glass obviously needed a complete rethink... I can’t see how something thick-rimmed and more invasive-looking than Google Glass is going to catch on.

“People are keen on wearables like fitness bands and watches, but they care about their faces. Wearing something on your head is a lot stronger than wearing something on your arm,” he added. “The industry keeps pushing it but consumers just don’t want it.”

1. In which countries people can get the SmartEyeglass first?

A. The US and Japan. B. The US and the UK.

C. The UK and Japan. D. Germany and the UK.

2.The purpose of this passage is to __________.

A. introduce an accelerometer developed by the Google company

B. tell the people that the SmartEyeglass will go on sale

C. people like the glasses very much

D. the SmartEyeglass is less than 840 yuan

3.What can be inferred from what Stuart Miles said?

A. He supports Sony’s efforts to develop the SmartEyeglass.

B. He cares more about his clothes and face.

C. He dislikes the SmartEyeglass.

D. He really wants to wear them.

On May 18,1969,NASA astronauts Thomas Stafford,John Young, and Eugene Cernan boarded the Apollo 10 lunar module(登月舱)—the fourth manned mission in the US Apollo Space program and only the second after Apollo 8 to circle the moon. Its mission was to circle the moon and thoroughly test the components and procedures to pave the way for the first lunar landing. The mission went perfectly without incident—at least that’s what every one believed.

However, that view has changed since February 22, after NASA released a digital recording of strange music heard by the space travelers. Then as they were re-entering the zone where they could communicate with ground control. One of the astronauts asked if they should report it.In response, Stafford expressed his doubts if anyone would even believe them. But they needn’t have worried. When NASA experts listened to the recordings, they thought the strange sounds were radio interference.

Michael Collins—the Apollo 11 pilot—said that the only reason why he was not shocked upon hearing them was that he had been forewarned by NASA officials.Collins also said that the music stopped as soon as the lunar module landed on the moon.

So why did it take NASA over 40 years to release the digital recording of the awful music only after it was featured in a recent television series NASA’s Unexplained Files? The US Space Agency says they have not been hiding them.In the press release that accompanies the release of the recording,NASA officials state,“The Apollo 10 audio clips were uploaded in 2012, but the mission’s sound recordings have been available at the National Archives for anyone that wanted to hear them since the early 1970s.”

Eugene Cernan, Apollo 10’s pilot who heard the sounds first, also released a statement saying,“I don’t remember that incident excited me enough to take it seriously. It was probably just radio interference.Had we thought it was something other than that,we would have briefed everyone after the flight. We never gave it another thought.”

While most people are ready to accept this logical explanation, there are some that believe otherwise. They guess the music proves the presence of aliens. Among them is Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden, who thinks the sounds came from a source in outer space. In the episode of NASA’s Unexplained Files, which discusses the origin of the strange music, the astronaut says, “Logic tells me that if there was something recorded on there, then there was something there.”

1.Apollo 10’s mission was to ________.

2.When the astronauts heard the sounds, ________.

A.they were excited about the discovery

B.they reported to NASA

C.they were heading back to the lunar ground

D.they thought they might be of little importance

3.According to the passage, ________.

A.the mission of Apollo 10 turned out to be unsuccessful

B.NASA made the TV series to clarify some space-related mysteries

C.Al Worden on Apollo 15 believes in aliens and logic

D.Michael Collins knew about the strange sounds before his flight

4.What is the main idea of this passage?

A.A TV program was released about NASA’s unexplained files.

B.The music heard by Apollo astronauts could be radio interference.

C.NASA releases strange music heard by 1969 astronauts.

D.Apollo astronauts heard strange sounds from outer space.
