【题目】 One thing you do not expect an oil minister to do is to block the development of his own country’s oil fields. But that is exactly what Alberto Acosta did when he was appointed Ecuador’s Oil Minister.
For a relatively poor country whose main income is from oil exports, this idea seemed like madness. Ecuador is not rich by economic (经济) standards, but in terms of the diversity of plant and animal life, it is one of the richest places on Earth. For this, scientists studied trees in the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador’s undamaged rain forest, and they found over 650 different species (物种) of tree in just one acre — more than the total number in all of the US and Canada combined. Mr. Acosta said he would rather the oil companies did not destroy these natural riches. His idea is to leave the oil reserves beneath Yasuni Park untouched, in return for compensation of half their value, which will be done by the international society. The oil is worth more than $7 billion.
Ecuador is not the only country trying to get richer nations to pay for not exploiting (开发) their forests. Both Nigeria and Guatemala are hoping they will be able to make similar deals. A spokesperson for local environmental groups explained, “This is fantastic though the plan has met with problems, both from within Ecuador and from outside. If only people in developed countries appreciated that these forests absorb a lot of the CO2 that their industries produce. I just wish they would take a longer-term view of this problem. Protecting biodiversity and preventing climate change means temporary loss, otherwise, we will all be losers — with consequences I’d rather not even think about.”
【1】What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The total number of tree species.
B.Ecuador’s oil storage quantity.
C.Ecuador’s diversity in wildlife.
D.The undamaged rain forest.
【2】What was Mr. Acosta’s real aim?
A.Importing more oil.B.Protecting the environment.
C.Building more natural parks.D.Compensating the Yasuni Park.
【3】What will the international society do?
A.Guide companies to protect the oil.
B.Develop oil fields near the park.
C.Study the rain forest further.
D.Pay oil companies 3. 5 billion.
【4】What does the spokesperson indicate in the last paragraph?
A.Destroying nature means punishing ourselves.
B.Natural forests can stop climate change totally.
C.Developed countries will become losers.
D.It’s impossible to carry out Acosta’s plan.

【题目】A new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily, it is a bad thing for young people. Puppy love (早恋), may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression. The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all.
The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”. According to the study, even though boys would say “lose themselves in a romantic relationship”, this “loss of self” is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won’t tell that to their parents.
Dr.Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing. Trying romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family.
Parents should watch for signs of depression-eating or mood changes-and if they see signs from their daughters or sons, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects.

【题目】Sitting is an art that isn't getting passed along. People these days feel as though they have to be doing something. If they are not working, they are jogging, or playing tennis or golf to guard against illnesses, or taking courses to improve their minds or bodies -- or they are parked in front of the TV. Sitting in front of the TV isn't sitting -- it's watching.
People used to sit a whole lot. You would walk down the street or drive down the road, and there they would be, out on the doorsteps, sitting. You could go to the grocery to buy some garlic or some fruits and vegetables and sit on the bench out front m the summer or around the fire in the winter. You could go down to the store to buy an outer garment, an electric grill or anything else. There were sitting benches out in the town square. At the garage, there were straight-backed chairs. There among the oilcans and tires and spare parts, you could kick back and sit.
Houses used to have sitting rooms, where the grown-ups would go after Sunday dinner. Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Aunt Ruby would gather round, sit and digest (消化) the fried chicken and talk about Aunt Ethel’s illness, and how well the minister did today. They may just talk a load of garbage and even gesture with their hands when they become excited. Outside, the younger generation, the children would play on the ground, and the afternoon would pass by in a comfortable haze( 悠闲的氛围).
That sort of thing looks like doing nothing. A recharging battery (正充电的电池) doesn't look as if it's doing anything either. Sitting restores your soul. If you want to enjoy a truly full life, don't just do something--sit there.
【1】What message does the author try to get through to us?
A. People should make better use of their sitting room.
B. People should spend less time watching TV.
C. People should pass down their good habits.
D. People should take things easy for their own good.
【2】We can learn from the second paragraph that__________.
A. people lived a more restful life in the past
B. towns were built to make living convenient
C. small town garages had a lot to offer
D. people enjoyed going out for a drive
【3】The sitting room mentioned in the text used to be a place for___________.
A. eating food B. watching TV
C. gathering together D. playing with children
【4】From the text we know the writer believes____________.
A. sitting has a good spiritual effect
B. sitting helps people remember the past
C. a sitting room may have different purposes
D. a sitting room is important for the old

【题目】 We have most friends at the age of 26 after having spent the first quarter of our lives building up our friendship circle, new research has claimed.
The research into friendship shows that our social circle peaks at 26 years and 7 months, at which we typically have five close friends.Women are most popular at 25 years and 10 months, with men hitting the highest friendship point a little later at 27 years and 3 months.
The research, by Forever Friends, shows that about a third of adults meet their closest friends while at school, with about a fifth saying they meet them at work.
Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter now also play a major role in building new friendship. The research points out that 25 to 34yearolds make 22 friends via Facebook, compared to 18 to 24yearolds who make 12, and 35 to 44yearolds who make just four.
Forever Friends' relationship coach Sam Owen says, “It is no coincidence that over a third of us meet our best friends at school. It is a key time in our lives when friendship is growing through sharing notes, giving gifts, seeing each other regularly and laughing a lot. As adults we can often forget how powerful these small things are and how the little things can make a difference.”
Later in life we find ourselves losing friends. Over half of us lose friendship through moving, while 36% say that over time they grow apart from close pals. Having children also causes 19% to drift away from childhood friends.
With growing pressure being put on friendship these days,it's important to make time for our friendship.
