47.The first Earth Day in 1970was a raucous,radical teach-in that helped spur clean-air,clean-water,and endangered species legislation in the United States.Now,40years later,Earth Day is every day,as the saying goes.The thing is,it's also everyday-environmentalism has become a routine with greenness as much a marketing tactic as a moral pursuit.F
48.Some 242million turkeys were raised in the U.S.in 2010for slaughter,according to the U.S.Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service.Last year's birds were worth about U.S.﹩3.6billion.Before the big dinner,debunk the myths,we need to know that the first"real"U.S.Thanksgiving wasn't until the 1800s and get to the roots of Thanksgiving 2010.D
49.Father's Day traditionally takes a backseat to Mother's Day,and,for the most part,dads are cool with that,experts say.Nevertheless,as traditional roles around the house gradually change,fathers are gaining more attention on their special day,at least as measured in the monetary value of gifts estimated to be given on June 19,2011,when the holiday will be celebrated in dozens of countries.A
50.Cookouts,fireworks,and,of course,a chance to wish Uncle Sam a big"happy birthday"-the day means summer in full swing across the United States and beyond.Besides the founders of the US,Fireworks,first authorized by Congress in 1777,are another legacy.More than 14,000fireworks displays light up U.S.skies each year.E.

Where did this most popular day for couples come from?And how does it come into beings,year after year和the lovers'holiday 可知本段讨论情人节的来历,所以答案是C,因为Valentine's Day 是情人节.
47.F.根据47题中的The first Earth Day in 1970was a raucous,radical teach-in that helped spur clean-air,clean-water,and endangered species legislation in the United States. 可知本段讨论地球日,所以答案是F,因为F项的题目是Earth Day at 40.
48.D.根据48题中的that the first"real"U.S.Thanksgiving wasn't until the 1800s and get to the roots of Thanksgiving 2010可知本段讨论感恩节,所以答案是D,因为它的题目是Thanksgiving 2010
49.A 根据49题中的Father's Day traditionally takes a backseat to Mother's Day和fathers are gaining more attention on their special day,at least as measured in the monetary value of gifts estimated to be given on June 19,2011.可知本段讨论的是父亲节而不是母亲节,所以答案是A.
50.E.根据50题中的a chance to wish Uncle Sam a big"happy birthday和More than 14,000fireworks displays light up U.S.skies each year可知本段讨论美国国庆日的活动,所以答案是E,因为它的题目是4th of July Facts:1st Fests,Number of Fireworks,More.

2.Bluebirds  looking  secretly  from  nest  boxes.Tadpoles  swimming  in  a  pond.Tiger swallowtails flying quickly around a butterfly bush.And over here,a class of students watching it all.A field trip to a nature center?No,it's a schoolyard.With some work on your part,it could even be your schoolyard.
Interested in building a schoolyard habitat? Here's how to get started.
Gather a Team
Students can do a lot on their own,but you'll need adults for a project this big.Get teachers,parents,and  even  the  headmaster  interested.Don't  forget  the  maintenance(维修)staff-they know more about your school's yard than anyone else and can give you lots of help.Also,ask around your neighborhood for gardeners,naturalists,and others willing to give advice.
Map Your Site
Which part of the schoolyard can you turn  into a habitat?Is there an unused corner of the playground?Part of a lawn or field you could let go wild?You'll need to make a map of the area showing what's  there now.Then  you  can  figure out  how you want  to  change  it.For  that,you need a plan.
Plan a Habitat
Here's what you'll need to make your area attractive to wildlife.
Food:Plant  flowers,bushes,and  trees.These  provide  seeds,berries,leaves,flowers,and sweet  liquids.And  all  of  these  feed  birds,and  insects.You  can  also  add  some  feeders  for squirrels and birds.Where possible,stick with native plants-wild plants that grow naturally in your area.They need less care,which means less work for you.
Water:A  small pond,birdbath,or  even  a  shallow dish  of  clean water  in  the ground will attract birds.Other small animals like insects may visit as well.
Shelter:Bushes and trees make great escapes for birds.Tall grass and"weeds"are home to grasshoppers,garter  snakes,and  some  ground-nesting birds.You  can  also  add  stone  piles  and brush piles.
Places to Raise Young:Butterflies need special plants to lay their eggs on.Frogs and toads lay eggs only  in shallow water.Many birds use birdhouses; others nest  in  trees and bushes.In fact,nearly all your shelters may become homes for wild young.
Put It on Paper
Using the map you made of your area,draw in the changes you want to make.Mark where the plants,nest boxes,and other items will go.Remember,this is a long-term plan-you don't have  to  do  everything  this  spring.Maybe  you  could  put  up  a  few  birdhouses  and  plant  some butterfly bushes now and save the trees and bushes for next year.Even a small start is a big step for wildlife.
Reach for Resources
To make the habitat happen,you'll need lots of plants,seeds,and other supplies.You'll also need to buy or borrow tools and maybe even some heavy equipment.Now's the time to reach out for donations.Start by asking your parent-teacher organization.Then go to garden clubs,garden stores (they might give you a discount),local government agencies,and businesses.If they can't donate supplies or money,ask if they can donate workers!
The workers can help build  the habitat.You'll also need people  to help maintain  it.Some schools ask their students'families to take turns during the summer.Each family maintains  the habitat for a couple of weeks.
Build Your Design
Now you can dig in.Set a date, and get growing!

Many years ago,children who had good manners were seen and not heard.They kept quite quiet if grown-ups were talking.Today,well-mannered children have more freedom.
Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places.

Suppose you visit a friend in Arabia.You should walk behind the other tents until you come to his tent.If you pass in front of the other tents,you will be asked into each one.People will ask you to eat with them.And it is bad manners if you say no.
Manners are different all over the world.But it is good to know that all manners begin in the same way.People needed ways to show that they wanted to be friends.

20.A refrigerator of the future that tells you what to cook with your leftovers and automatically re-orders fresh food is being designed m the UK.The self-cleaning"refrigerator of the future"will automatically place supermarket home delivery orders when required and move food near its use by date to the front of the shelves.
Researchers hope the fridge could clean itself, cut down on wasted food and offer up recipes, which could be tailored to different countries, cuisines and seasons (调味品).With the British spending 36 million hours on extra-hour work every year, leaving little time for housework, the refrigerator could help save time during busy modern-day lives. These new developments are oh the way thanks to combined efforts between scientists at the University of Central Lancashire and online supermarket Ocado.
The planned new qualities include the ability for refrigerators to scan their shelves to see what is in store and use this information to both plan meals and automatically place a supermarket food order.
The smart fridge will use"nano-articulated(纳米) technology"shelf surfaces, smooth to the touch. The shelf surfaces will have millions of independently controlled micro-tiles (小瓷格) which will move products which soon need to be eaten to the front of the refrigerator.Ultrasound-scanning technology built into the door will allow the refrigerator to"look through"the food on a plate before and after mealtime, meaning it can assess what type and amount of food is wasted.
Dr Simon Somerville,an expert from the University of Central Lancashire, said."Cookbooks are lists of food items. For this purpose the most available information that the refrigerator will have is a set of arrangements that allow a set number of ingredients(佐料) to produce a large number of quite different dishes. The key concept in the successful accomplishment of this process is accurate list tracking (跟踪)."

The classic love story explores the lives of the five Bennet sisters at the turn of the 19th century in rural England.At that time women were not allowed to get their father's wealth after his death,so their mother is desperate to marry them off into wealthy families.Therefore various love stories start with the question-whether marriage is for love or for money.

17.Advertisers tend to think big and perhaps this is why they're always coming in for criticism.Their critics(批评家)seem to hate them because they have so much money to throw around.Why don't they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods?After all,it's the consumer who pays.
The poor old consumer!He'd have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn't create mass markets for products.It is precisely because of the heavy advertising that consumer goods are so cheap.But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods.Another equally important function is to inform.A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods is largely from the advertisements we read.Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about.Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine,it is more than likely you would obtain details regarding performance,price,etc.,from an advertisement.
Lots of people pretend that they never read advertisements,but this claim may be seriously doubted.It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days.And what fun they often are,too!Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements.Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall or reading railway byelaws while waiting for a train?A cheerful,witty advertisement makes such a difference to a dull wall or a newspaper full of the incidents and disasters.
We must not forget,either,that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets.The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper,or can enjoy so many broadcast programmers is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers.Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price!
Another thing we mustn't forget is the"small ads."What a tremendously useful service they perform for the community!Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns.For instance,you can find a job,buy or sell a house,announce a birth,marriage or death in what used to be called the"hatch,match and dispatch"column(栏目) but by far the most fascinating section is the personal or"agony"column.No other item in a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature.It's the best advertisement for advertising there is!

48.What is the main idea of this passage?C
A.Advertisements steal money from our pockets
B.The critics get the wrong idea of advertisements.
C.Advertisers perform a useful service to communities.
D.Advertisements are everywhere.
49.What is the attitude of the author toward advertisements?A
A.He appreciates the role of advertisements.
B.He doubts the effect of advertisements.
C.He believes what is said in advertisements.
D.He complains too many advertisements in daily life.
50.Which of the following is Not True?B
A.The personal or"agony"column makes us know more about human nature.
B.The only purpose of advertising is to sell goods.
C.A newspaper will cost us more if there is no advertisement on it.
D.Advertisement makes our life colorful.
51.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?D
A.      B.       C.     D.

Climbers who reached its 8,848-metre peak previously depended on expensive satellite phones and a voice-only network set up by China Mobile in 2007on the Chinese side of the mountain.

Despite the installation in Mount Everest,telecom services cover less than one-third of the 28million people of Nepal,one of the poorest countries in the world.
TeliaSonera said it planned to invest $ 100million in the next year to ensure that mobile coverage increases to more than 90per cent of the Himalayan nation's population.
The 3G network on Mount Everest puts TeliaSonera ahead of state-controlled Nepal Telecom,Indian-owned United Telecom and China Mobile.
Around 3,000people have climbed to the Everest summit since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to conquer the peak in 1953.

1.Although Paris is often considered the city of romance, close to a million adults who call it home are single. Many single people say that France's capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints(抱怨)of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as"supermarket dating."At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall,or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list.
At this paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m.When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the store aisles(过道).

2.Some children are natural-born bosses. They have a strong need to make decisions, manage their environment, and lead rather than follow.Stephen Jackson,a Year One student,"operates under the theory of what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine,"says his mother."The other day I bought two new Star Wars light sabers(剑).Later,I saw Stephen with the two new ones while his brother was using the beat-up ones."
"Examine the extended family, and you'll probably find a bossy grandparent, aunt, uncle or cousin in every generation. It's an inheritable trait,"says Russell Barkley,a professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.Other children who may not be particularly bossy can gradually gain dominance(支配地位) when they sense their parents are weak, hesitant,or in disagreement with each other.
Whether it's inborn nature or developed character at work, too much control in the hands of the young isn't healthy for children or the family.Fear is at the root of a lot of bossy behavior, says family psychologist John Taylor.Children,he says in his book From Defiance to Cooperation,"have secret feelings of weakness"and"a desire to feel safe."It's the parents'role to provide that protection.
When a"boss child"doesn't learn limits at home, the stage is set for a host of troubles outside the family. The overly willful and unbending child may have trouble obeying teachers or coaches, for example,or trouble keeping friends. It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your bossy ways.
"I see more and more parents giving up their power,"says Barkley, who has studied bossy behavior for more than 30 years."They bend too far because they don't want to be as strict as their own parents were. But they also feel less confident about their parenting skills.Their kids,in turn, feel more anxious."
