¡¾´ð°¸¡¿Studying Abroad

The topic of my speech today is ¡°Studying Abroad¡±£®

Attending schools abroad has many advantages. Firstly, by looking at our own country from outside, we can widen our vision and broaden our minds. Secondly, we can visit famous scenic spots and make friends with the local people. Thirdly, we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in the second language may be improved quickly.

However, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign school. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most students do not have adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. On arriving there, they find it difficult to understand what the teachers are saying. Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find parttime jobs to support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and learn little.

On the whole, it is a good thing to study abroad. However, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.

Thank you for your listening.

Aunt Karen always had a special place in my heart. When I was growing up, I knew I could count on her to have room for me on her lap and words of love and encouragement when I needed to hear them. When she died five years ago, I was devastated. The whole family was still in shock when her husband, Uncle Ronnie, died a week later. I longed to have a small item of Aunt Karen's to remember her by, but seeing her children and grandchildren overcome by the grief of this double loss made me shy away from asking.
A few months after Aunt Karen's death, I was on my way to work when I saw Rescued Treasures, a local second-hand store. I only had a couple of dollars on me and didn't really intend to buy anything, but I stopped anyway just to look inside. I had been shopping around for a few minutes when a small, black handbag caught my eye. It wasn't fancy or special. I didn't really need a handbag and continued to look around the store, but something kept drawing me back to that handbag. Finally, I checked the price tag (±êÇ©). It was just one dollar.
The handbag stayed in the back of my car for weeks until I came upon it during a car clean-up. I opened it up. I couldn't believe it. They hadn't even cleaned it out. It was still full of junk, old candy wrappers, old receipts (ÊÕ¾Ý) and used paper. Usually the store emptied things inside, so there wouldn't be any surprises for a new owner.
I threw away some wastes, and sorted through the receipts, when I found one item in the small inside pocket. It was an insurance card with the name ¡°Karen Stair¡± written on it. I began to cry. My beloved Aunt Karen. This was her handbag.
£¨1£©What do we know from the passage?
A.Karen's husband survived her by five years.
B.Karen's children refused to give any item to the author.
C.The author was very shy when she was young.
D.Karen had been very kind to the author.
£¨2£©The underlined word ¡°devastated¡± in Paragraph 1 probably means ¡°________¡±.
A.very worried
B.a little lonely
C.extremely sad
D.slightly disappointed
£¨3£©The author made up her mind to buy the handbag because ________.
A.she just needed to buy a handbag
B.the bag looked strange and was worth the price
C.it happened that she could afford it
D.someone else persuaded her to buy it
£¨4£©As soon as the author opened the handbag, she felt very ________.
A.surprised
B.excited
C.sick
D.nervous

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿It is difficult for parents of nearly every family to teach their children to be responsible¡¾1¡¿ housework, but with one of the following ¡¾2¡¿(suggest), you really can get your children¡¾3¡¿ (help) at home.

If you usually give your children the deep impression that they can never do anything quite right, then they¡¾4¡¿(regard) themselves as unfit or unable persons.¡¾5¡¿children do not believe they can succeed, they will never become totally independent.

My daughter Mary's fifth-grade teacher made every child in her class feel special. When stu- dents received less than a perfect test score, she would point out¡¾6¡¿they had mastered and declared¡¾7¡¿ (firm) they could learn what they had missed.

You can use the same way when you evaluate your child's work at home. Don't always scold and you should give lots of praise instead. Talk about what he has done right, not about what he hasn¡¯t done. If your child completes ¡¾8¡¿difficult task, promise him a Sunday trip or a ball game with Dad.

Learning is a process of trying and¡¾9¡¿ (fail)and trying and succeeding. If you teach your children not to fear a mistake of failure, they will learn¡¾10¡¿(fast) and achieve success at last.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿With the summer holiday just around the corner, it seems like everybody is busy planning their vacations. Here are some tips that can help you enjoy your holiday without emptying your pocket:

Travel off-season

Go to your desired destination while the demand is low and take advantage of huge discounts. During the peak season, the hotel and flight prices increase quickly, and you¡¯ll likely spend more of your vacation time standing in line due to the rush of tourists.¡¾1¡¿

¡¾2¡¿

Websites can help you find discount hotel rooms. Look for places that do not charge extra for children if they use the existing bedding. Stay with the locals. If you and your family are going to stay for a longer period, renting a small apartment is a good choice.

Eat like a local

Why eat at big chain restaurants when you can experience something new?¡¾3¡¿During your family trip, try new food where the locals eat. This will not just save money, but also provide you with a new and different experience. For smaller meals and snacks, avoid restaurants and try street food or other takeout.

Don¡¯t hesitate to bargain

Tourist- heavy places are known for overcharging for just about everything. Clothes, travel goodies, souvenirs, etc. are very expensive at these places.¡¾4¡¿Bargain hard to get the best price.

Choose local transportation

¡¾5¡¿Instead, take buses, railways or subways, which are always cheaper. If you are planning to stay for a while, you can consider renting a car. Hiring a car is much easier than carrying your bags everywhere if you are moving around a lot.

A. Save on hotels.

B. Surf the Internet while traveling.

C. Therefore, avoid buying anything there.

D. So it¡¯s best to find out when the off-season starts.

E. Planning your meals is another way to reduce your travel costs.

F. For this reason, you shouldn¡¯t feel ashamed to ask for bargains.

G .As a tourist, avoid taking taxis whenever possible, since they are expensive.

Dear Sue ,
How time flies. It is a month that you stayed with us. We all miss you and are very grateful to what you did for us when we were together.
We had an English speech contest the others day and I won the first prize, which again remind me of all your kind help. Do you still remember the tree what was planted by us together on the hill behind the school? Yesterday we went there and got it water. The tree you planted yourselves is growing well and whole class decided to name it Sue wood. Will you come back to see Sue wood?
How is everything with you later? We hope to know more about you and your American students. Hope to keep in
All the best
Liu Hua
