1.无论发生什么事情,我们必须把实验在星期五之前完成.(no matter)No matter what happens,we must finish the experiment ahead of Friday..

分析 无论发生什么事情,我们必须把实验在星期五之前完成.

解答 答案:No matter what happens,we must finish the experiment ahead of Friday.
No matter what 引导让步状语从句,表示"无论什么";ahead of 是固定短语,表示"在…之前".

点评 考查汉译英.
"no matter+疑问词=疑问词-ever含义为"…都…;不管…都…"它们引导的让步状语从句可以互换.例如:
No matter what happened,he would not mind.(=Whatever happened,he would not mind.)
  无论发生了什么事情,他都不会介意的.
但"no matter+疑问词"结构只能引导让步状语从句,而"疑问词-ever"还可以引导名词性从句.例如:
Whatever (=No matter what) you say,I won't believe you.(Whatever 引导让步状语句)无论你说什么,我都不会相信你.
I'll eat whatever (≠no matter what) you give me.(whatever引导宾语从句)
  你给我吃什么,我就吃什么.

11.Dear Ms.Wang,
I am writing to inform you of some arrangements about my composition course and Latin course next year.
I've decided to re-establish the 5-paragraph essay as the goal for the composition course.I interviewed some of my former students and they all agreed that being able to write critically and continuously was important to them.
So next academic year,Term 1will be like always:sentences to paragraphing.And Term 2will work toward the 5-paragraph essay.The final 3weeks of Term 2will be reserved to introduce writing for TOEFL and CEE.By that time,if the students have done their job correctly,then they should be able to write quite well.
As for the Latin course,I will post notices around campus next week so that the students will understand what's on offer before I actually introduce the course.A number of students already emailed me about the course.
I am sure you don't understand what a big deal our opening this program at our school is.People around the world are interested in what we plan to do.There are many rewards available to the students who succeed in the course.Please share what I have said with the administration.I want them to understand the importance of this course.The reason why,I have contacted these colleagues (actually Oxford contacted me) is that I have confidence in our students and in myself.I know that when those professors meet our students and hear them speaking and reading Latin,they are going to be amazed.It will open all sorts of doors for students that they never even thought of to knock on.
Well,that's it for now.I'll see you soon.
Yours,
Edward Johnson

9.Every day,hundreds of thousands of us visit coffee shops.While we drink our coffee,we may connect our smartphone to the shop's Wi-Fi network,and keep in touch with friends via services such as Facebook.
As well as socializing,we may use the time and free access to a wireless connection to get on top of our finances.Transferring money from your account to others'accounts is nothing more than a few taps on your screen.
But what coffee drinkers do not realize is that lurking(潜伏) among their fellow coffee-lovers are bank robbers.
Unbeknown to you,this modern form of bank robber is silently collecting all your private data.The only sign of his thievery is perhaps a little smile as your bank log-in details appear on his screen.
You'll only realize when you later go to a cash machine to withdraw(提取)some money, and discover that every penny in your account has been cleared out.
The common method for thieves is to use your smartphone's Wi-Fi connection.They rely on the fact that most of us are not careful about the security of networks we connect to.
For example,when you are in a coffee shop,your smartphone will present you with a list of available Wi-Fi networks that you can use to connect your phone to the Internet.Most of these networks are run by legitimate(合法的)companies,but sometimes they are actually created by a thief sitting nearby with little more than a laptop.
These networks are often given names,such as"Free Public Wi-Fi",which deceive smartphone users into logging in.On the surface,everything seems normal,and you will be able to connect just as you are with a legitimate Wi-Fi service.
However,because you have connected to a network controlled by a thief,he can monitor everything you do,enabling him to collect passwords and log-in details about your bank account.
21.The underlined phrase"get on top of"can be replaced byA.
A.handleB.give upC.cut offD.set up
22.What can we learn from the passage?C
A.Transferring money from your account to others'is a complex process.
B.It's easy for you to tell bank robbers from other coffee drinkers.
C.Online thieves could steal money because people pay little attention to the security of networks.
D.All the available networks in a coffee shop are illegal.
23.What's the author's attitude towards Wi-Fi traps?C
A.Positive.B.Negative.C.Objective.D.Indifferent.
24.What's the best title of this passage?A
A.Be cautious about free Wi-Fi networks.B.The thief who withdraws our money.
C.The convenience of free Wi-Fi networks.D.The process of stealing money.

16.How many things can you see in the night sky?A lot!On a clear night you might see the Moon,some planets,and thousands of sparkling stars.
You can see even more with a telescope.You might see stars where before you only saw dark space.You might see that many stars look larger than others.You might see that some stars that look white are really red or blue.With bigger and bigger telescopes you can see more and more objects in the sky.And you can see those objects in more and more detail.
But scientists believe there are some things in the sky that we will never see.We won't see them with the biggest telescope in the world,on the clearest night of the year.
That's because they're invisible.They're the mysterious dead stars called black holes.
You might find it hard to imagine that stars die.After all,our Sun is a star.Year after year we see it up in the sky,burning brightly,giving us heat and light.The Sun certainly doesn't seem to be getting old or weak.But stars do burn out and die after billions of years.
As a star's gases burn,they give off light and heat.But when the gas runs out,the star stops burning and begins to die.
As the star cools,the outer layers of the star pull in toward the center.The star squashes into a smaller and smaller ball.If the star was very small,the star ends up as a cold,dark ball called a black dwarf.If the star was very big,it keeps squashing inward until it's packed together tighter than anything in the universe.
Imagine if the Earth were crushed until it was the size of a tiny marble.That's how tightly this dead star,a black hole,is packed.What pulls the star in toward its center with such power?It's the same force that pulls you down when you jump-the force called gravity.A black hole is so tightly packed that its gravity sucks in everything-even light.The light from a black hole can never come back to your eyes.That's why you see nothing but blackness.
So the next time you stare up at the night sky,remember:there's more in the sky than meets the eye!Scattered in the silent darkness are black holes-the great mystery of space.
74.According to the article,what causes a star to die?D
A.As it gets hotter and hotter,it explodes.
B.It collides with other stars.
C.It can only live for about a million years.
D.As its gases run out,it cools down.
75.Which of the following statements is NOT a fact?B
A.Black holes are dead stars.
B.There is nothing as mysterious as a black hole.
C.Black holes are invisible.
D.Black holes have gravity.
76.Which of the following is NOT a feature of a black dwarf?A
A.It is usually bigger than a white dwarf.
B.It is dark.
C.It is smaller in size than a common star.
D.It is cold.
77.Why can't you see light when you look at a black hole?D
A.For most black holes are so far away.
B.As the star's gases burn,it stops giving off heat and light.
C.As a star cools,its outer layers pull in toward its center.
D.The gravity of a black hole is so strong that it sucks the light inward.
