【题目】This is a time of year when high school students and their families are thinking hard about college. As seniors, juniors, and parents identify their top choices, discussions typically focus on the college itself. Is the institution small or large? How strong are the academics? What is the social life like? Do I like the campus? Such considerations are important, but they can cover the all-important question:Where will these college years lead?

Applicants should think seriously about which college on their list can best prepare them for the real world. They should look for campuses that offer well-structured programs to help them form a direction for their lives and develop the capacity to take steps along that path.

One of the most striking recent phenomena about college graduates in America has been the “boomerang” student: the young person who goes away to college, has a great experience, graduates, and then moves back home for a year or two to figure out what to do with his or her life. This pattern has left many graduates – and their families – wondering whether it makes sense to spend four or more years at college, often at great expense, and finish with no clear sense of who they are or what they want to do next.

The trend points to one of the great shortcomings of many of our nation’s leading colleges and universities. Structured opportunities to think about life after graduation are rare. The formal curriculum focuses almost universally on the academic disciplines of the arts and sciences. Advising on how various majors connect to pathways into the workplace is typically haphazard (没有条理的). Career planning offices are often shorthanded and marginal (不重要的) to college life.

It doesn’t need to be this way, and in recent years some of the country’s top colleges have enriched their academic offerings with opportunities for students to gain real-world experiences.

1According to the author, what do typical discussions on college choices ignore?

A. The function of college education in employment.

B. The difficulty in finding jobs after graduation.

C. High school students’ interests.

D. The academics of college.

2Which accounts for the “trend” mentioned in the text?

A. Students failing to behave themselves.

B. Parents overprotecting their children.

C. Students choosing majors blindly.

D. Schools lacking proper guidance.

3What will be probably discussed in the following paragraph?

A. Recipes for academic achievements.

B. Good academic programs in college.

C. Academic tips for college students.

D. Disadvantages of present college course.

4What is the best title for the text?

A. A good way to choose a college.

B. A new trend in top colleges.

C. Connect subjects with life beyond college.

D. Make college one of life’s richest experiences.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “ Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry.
A. In general the person feels excited and ready to act.
B. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.
C. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
D. Anger may cause you a cancer.
E. Do not express your anger while angry.
F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

Dear editor,
I am Evan from Canada. Being the oldest child in the family has its disadvantages. First of all, I have to share all my toys with my young sisters. Of course, they don't need to return to the favor because I'm total uninterested in their things. Besides, they are always hanging around me. I just can't get moment's peace. At meals, I have to eat whichever is on the plate regardless of the taste. My sisters only try one bite if it's not our favorite food. In addition, when it comes to practice our musical instruments, I have to practice more than double the time. Worst of all, I got a larger quantity of housework. Comparing to them, I'm feeling rather annoyed. Can you please give me some advices?
Yours truly,
Evan Smith

Most drinks stating that they are fruit flavored contain no fruit at all, while most of the rest contain only a small quantity of fruit, according to a study carried by the British Food Commission.
"Shoppers need to check the labels before buying drinks, though sometimes the actual content can be nonexistent," said Food Commission spokesperson Ian Tokelove. "Food production is highly competitive. It will increase profits, and consumers won't always realize they are being tricked."
Flavorings are focused on the flavors of natural food products such as fruits, meats and vegetables, or creating flavor for food products that do not have the desired flavors. Researchers analyzed the contents of 28 strawberryflavored products sold in stores. Of the 11 products that did contain strawberries, five of them contained less than one percent real fruit. In addition, each juice box contained nearly eight teaspoons of sugar.
Let's take jam as an example. Some strawberryflavored jam was labeled as containing no artificial color1 s, flavors, or sweeteners, but it contained ly no strawberries at all.
Consumers have the rights to know clearly about what they have bought. Under current UK law, food packages do not have to distinguish between natural and artificial flavoring. "Describing a product as strawberry flavor and covering the surface of the packet with pictures of strawberries is misleading. Unfortunately, it is also legal and widespread," Tokelove said. "It's time to take measures to protect the consumers' rights."
A. They found that about 60 percent of them didn't contain any fruit at all.
B. Even products advertised as more natural often contained no fruit.
C. The products which contain real fruit are popular with people.
D. Actually the product contains just a tiny percentage of strawberry or even no fruit at all.
E. It is important and necessary to demand a small amount of flavoring in the products.
F. If companies can cut their costs by using flavoring, they are likely to do so.
G. The Food Commission suggested all flavors used in a product should be listed on the packaging.

Nowadays more and more Chinese go to work with bicycle, leaving their cars at home. Why are so many people riding bicycles to work? They have different reason for it.
First, bicycles do not use up any fuel. Therefore, they cost less than other means of transport. Besides, bicycles do not need many space on the road, and it is easily to find a place for it. And everybody knows that riding a bicycle is healthy sport.
When people drive their cars to work or shop, they lost the chance to exercise, but the waste gas from the cars will pollute the air. And moreover, people feel annoying when looking for a parking lot in the busy city center. So I prefer riding a bicycle to drive a car.
