    He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 15, 1929. He was black. He died in his thirties, but he became world-famous during that short time. He grew up in the southeastern part of the United States. He studied at Morehouse College, where he met many outstanding men whose ideas he found important and exciting. There he read the writings of Thoreau, which gave him many ideas about freedom.

    　　After he finished studying in Morehouse, he went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and Boston University. At Boston University, he met his wife, Corretta. In 1954, after he got his Ph. D. degree (哲学博士学位), he became a minister (牧师) of a small church in the South. Then he became the leader of the black people, who were poor and powerless. He gave speeches and led parades. For his ideas and actions, he was in prison for a short time.

    　　Many years later, in Washington D.C. he spoke to a crowd of 250,000 people. He told them "I have a dream". That speech is still famous today. In 1964 he won the Nobel Peace Prize. His work was not finished when he died on April 4. 1968. Who was he? He was Martin Luther King Jr..

         He could have been president of Israel-or played the violin at Carnegie Hall,  but he was too busy
    thinking-thinking on God,  love and the meaning of life.

         Fifty years after his death,  his shock (蓬乱) of white hair and hanging moustache still symbolize genius.Einstein remains the leading scientist of the modern time.Looking back 2,400 years,  only Newton,

    exposed a stranger and more complicated reality under the world.
         He escaped Hitler's Germany and devoted the rest of his life to human rights and peace with an
    authority (当局) unmatched by any scientist today,  or even most politicians and religious leaders.He
    spoke out against fascism and racial prejudice.His FBI (美国联邦调查局) file ran 1,400 pages.
         His letters expose a disorderly personal life-married twice and indifferent toward his children while
    absorbed in physics.Yet he charmed lovers and admirers with poetry and sailboat outings.Friends and

         He met her at a party.She was so outstanding,  with many boysaround her,  while he was so normal,  
    with nobody paying attention to him.
         At the end of the party,  he invited her to have coffee with him.She was surprised,  but due to being

    of his heart.A man who can tell out his homesickness,  he must be a man who loves home,  caresabout
    home,  and has responsibility of home.
         Then she also started to speak about her faraway hometown,  her childhood,  and her family.That
    was a really nice talk,  also a beautiful beginning of their story.
         They continued to date.She found that actually he was a man who meets all her demands; he was
    kindhearted,  warm and careful.He was such a good person but she almost missed him!
         Thanks to his salty coffee!Then the story was just like every beautiful love story-the princess married
    the prince,  and then they were living a happy life...And,  every time she made coffee for him,  she put
    some salt in the coffee.
         After 40 years,  he passed away,  leaving her a letter which said,  "My dearest,  please forgive my
    whole life lie.This was the only lie I said to you-the salty coffee.
         "Remember the first time we dated?I was so nervous at that time.Actually I wanted some sugar,  but
    I said salt.It was hard for me to change so I just went ahead.
         "I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life,  but I was too afraid to do that,  as I have promised
    not to lie to you for anything.
         "Now I'm dying.I'm afraid of nothing so I tell you the truth:I don't like the salty coffee.What a strange
    bad taste!But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life!
         "Since I knew you,  I never feel sorry for anything I do for you.Having you with me is my biggest
    happiness for my whole life.If I can live for a second time,  I still want to know you and have you for my
    whole life,  even though I have to drink the salty coffee again."
         Her tears made the letter totally wet.
         Someday,  someone asked her,  "What's the taste of salty coffee?""It's sweet,  " she replied.

        He's an old cobbler (修鞋匠) with a shop in the Marais, a historic area in Paris. When I took him my
    shoes, he at first told me: "I haven't time. Take them to the other fellow on the main street; he'll fix them
    for you right away. "
