    　　Now I’m proud to say that I am an extremely successful immigration lawyer at the age of 56．Looking back, I was fired quite a few times in my life．Though they all happened for very great reasons, I made rapid progress every time．

    　　When I first came to America at a very young age, I could not speak English well, but I needed money．Therefore, I went out to look for jobs, mainly in some restaurants．In the late 1960s, Chicago did not allow waitresses to serve drinks if they were under the age of 21．In order to get the job, I lied to the manager and said that I was 21．I was really 19 at the time, and did not know the difference between a martini(马提尼酒)and a Manhattan(曼哈顿鸡尾酒)．Eventually I became the head waitress at a vegetarian hotel in Catskills, New York, after going through several jobs．

    　　In the 1970s, I went to study law at a law school．After my graduation in 1976, I found it extremely difficult to find a good job．There were no, or very few, Asians practicing law, let alone Asian women practicing law．I was fired many times, but each time I learned something．My former bosses and I are still good friends, and now I have set up an extremely successful law company with some great people．

    Being fired is not the worst experience．Usually there is a good reason：our destiny demands it to help us mature(成熟)．Every setback is an opportunity to gain and to learn．

    　　“That's a very good idea!”the director said. Then he turned to the camera crew and said,“Tomorrow morning I want you to get me a beautiful sunrise over the sea.”

    　　The camera crew went out early the next morning end filmed a bright sunrise over the beach in the middle of a beautiful bay (海湾). Then at nine o'clock they took it to the director.“Here it is, sir.”they said, and gave it to him. He was very pleased.

    　　They all went into the studio (摄影棚).“All right.”the director explained.“Now our hero and heroine are going to say good-bye. Run the film backwards so that we can see the‘sunset’behind them.”

    　　The“sunset”began, but after a quarter of a minute, the director suddenly put his face in his hands and shouted to the camera crew to stop.

    　　Watching 3D films such as Avatar could give some viewers headaches, experts have warned．

    　　The success of James Cameron's science-fiction blockbuster(卖座的大片), which has already taken more than ＄1 billion(￡600 million)at the box office, is fuelling a surge in popularity for three-dimensional movies and new 3D television sets．

    　　Watching a 3D movie confronts viewers with an entirely new sensory experience．"That translates into greater mental effort, making it easier to get a headache," he said．

    　　Dr Deborah Friedman, a professor of ophthalmology and neurology(神经学)at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, said："If your eyes are a little off to begin with then it's really throwing a whole degree of effort that your brain now needs to exert．This disparity for some people will give them a headache．"

    　　Experts say there are no studies tracking how common it is to get a headache after watching a 3D film．

    　　Rick Heineman, a spokesman for RealD, which provides 3D equipment to cinemas, said headaches and nausea were the main reasons 3D technology never took off before．

    　　But he said new digital technology addresses many of the problems that had previously caused sore heads．
