When I was a university student, I (attract) by the Chinese. So I got a job as a teacher in Wuhan three years ago. (think) back, I realize it was the students I met in the first year and Chinese university life in general gave me the deepest impression.
During my school days, I would rarely give up my spare time to any activity (connect) with study. Unless exams were approaching, my weekends were devoted to having fun or perhaps a part-time job. My Chinese students, the other hand, seemed to spend their entire waking hours studying. I understand that competition in Chinese universities is extremely fierce. Nonetheless, their energy and motivation put (I) to shame.
My first year in China was also my first year as a teacher. It was both challenging rewarding. One thing I know for certain is that my year in Wuhan changed me for the (good). Thanks to the politeness and (warm) of Chinese students, I overcame my fear of speaking in public and became more self-confident. Most (important), I met dozens of nice people and made many excellent friends.

【答案】was attracted;Thinking;that;connected;on;me;and;better;warmth;importantly
吸引”的表达为be attracted by sth.,故填was attracted。
③强调句it is/was … that…,前面出现了it was结构,故填that。
I would rarely give up my spare time to any activity (which is) (connect) with study.",省略了which is,be connected with意为“与……相关联”。故填connected。
⑤on the other hand意为“另一方面”。故填on。
故填me。
⑦both…and… 故填and。
⑧"One thing I know for certain is that my year in Wuhan changed me for the (good). "(我可以确定的一件事是在武汉的这一年让我变得更好了)。既然是改变,就有一个比较的过程,变好或是变坏,根据题意,此处是说我变得更好了,故填better。
⑨and前后连接两个并列成分时,并列成分应用相同的形式。此处and前为名词,其后也应该是名词,故填warmth。
⑩most importantly“更重要的是”,用副词修饰整个句子,故填importantly。

【题目】For many years, our next-door neighbor's house was a terrible mess. It would be impossible to describe the awful smells of her house. The health department came and shut down an illegal puppy mill (幼犬繁育场) in the house a few years ago.

The house was sold for a rather high price because of the good location of the neighborhood. My husband and I looked into the house at that time and were upset by the scene: black mold (霉菌) growing on the walls; cigarette ends all over the floor; the wall between the garage and the living room completely destroyed by water damage. We couldn't spend more than one second in the house before running away.

We thought that it would be a teardown, but the new owners set about cleaning the inside. They worked for months making it safe and livable. After everything was clean and tidy, the owners decided to resell the house for a higher price.

Yesterday while I was out in my yard, a potential (潜在的) buyer pulled up and asked me what I could tell her about the history of the house. I just said that I didn't know anything.

What is my ethical obligation (道德义务) in this situation? It's possible that they have removed all the awful smells, dangerous mold and that the house is safe and livable. But it's also possible that they have just structurally fixed the house and that some unsafe mold will take root in the future. I wouldn't personally live there knowing what I know. But really, it's none of my business, and given the choice, I wouldn't talk to anyone about what I know. While it feels like a lie not to answer a direct question, I also feel that it's not my place to potentially ruin the seller's business deal. If I am asked again, what should I say?

1What can be learned about the author's neighborhood?

A. It's nice. B. It's noisy.

C. It's wealthy. D. It's crowded.

2Why did the new owners give the house a thorough cleaning?

A. To move into it.

B. To please the neighbors.

C. To get it ready for resale.

D. To make it match the surrounding area.

3How did the author feel after saying she knew nothing about the house's history?

A. Sad. B. Troubled. C. Relaxed. D. Proud.

4Why does the author write the text?

A. To offer help. B. To ask for advice.

C. To make a complaint. D. To give an explanation.

Animal welfare is a growing concern in today’s 1 (social). Many people think that it is cruel to remove animals from their 2 (nature) habitat and keep them in cages for the public to look at. An animal 3 (keep) in a zoo will lead a different life from an animal that 4 (live) in the wild. What’s more, some animals became unhappy in the zoos 5there isn’t enough space.

On the other hand, a trip to the zoo can be 6 educational experience. When students learn about endangered species and are able to see them in a zoo, they are more likely to support projects designed 7 (save) these animals. Due to some illegal actions, there are many species which would die out if they weren’t kept in zoos.

Every zoo has a 8 (slight) different approach to animal care and welfare, but overall I think zoos are good places. 9 (see) animals in their natural habitat isn’t always possible and I think zoos offer a good alternative. A trip 10 the zoo is both educational and fun—I’ll surely continue to visit zoos.

The number of overweight people around the world is increasing. For example, in China the number rose from 9 percent to 15 percent between 1989 and 1992. The increases in Latin America and Europe were similar. However, the most worrying statistic is the increase in the number of overweight children. In America, almost 33 percent of children under five are overweight. In some parts of Europe, the rate is almost 30 percent. Even developing countries have problems. In Egypt, Chile and Armenia, for example, the rate is over 5 percent.

The problem is the change in our diets combined with the change in our lifestyles. We used to eat whole grains, vegetables, and fruit. Now we eat foods that contain a lot of fat and sugar. Experts(专家) say that it isn't surprising that people eat too much of the wrong foods. Everywhere we look there are advertisements for high-calorie, high-fat foods. These foods are low in nutrition but also low in cost. In other words, they may not be good for us, but they are really cheap. Some experts call this a toxic-food(有毒的食品) environment. Most of us do not realize this unhealthy environment. Therefore, we believe if we are fat, it's our responsibility. This is not completely true.

Today, many food companies are focusing on developing countries. In 1998, one soft-drink company told its employees that "Africa is a land of chance for us." The largest American fast-food company opens five new restaurants every day; four of them are located outside the United States.

It is terrible to think that we may soon live in a world where everyone eats fast food and drinks soda. However, it is not unavoidable. Governments should educate their people about the dangers of eating the wrong food. This is particularly important for tomorrow's adults.

1The numbers in Paragraph 1 are used to show ________.

A. the overweight problem B. the increase in population

C. the effects of being overweight D. the problems in developing countries

2It can be inferred from the text that food advertisements ________.

A. cause food prices to rise B. often give people useful information

C. affect the development of the food industry D. are partly responsible for overweight people

3What is the text mainly about?

A. Advertisements and life. B. Being overweight and its reasons.

C. Modern lifestyles and their effects. D. Being overweight and the environment.
