I’d appreciate it if是固定用法,意思是我很感激如果……, 所以appreciate 后面加it

考查固定句型。Spend time ( in ) doing sth. 是固定用法,意思是花费时间做某事,所以made改成making。

How sound and colour influence the taste of food

The sound people hear while they are eating food can change the way they think it tastes, scientists have discovered. In fact, researchers have also found that changing the colour of a food can influence the flavour 1 by consumers. Food manufacturers are now hoping to 2 the findings in an attempt to make their foods more appealing.

It was 3 thought that the sense of taste and smell were the only human senses that played a role in experiencing flavour. Professor Charles Spence, a sensory psychologist at Oxford University, is a leading expert in his field. He believes that it is possible to change the flavor of food simply by exciting people’s sense of hearing. For example, listening to waves hitting the sea shore can make 4 detect seafood flavours.

Professor Spence has also discovered that 5 changing the colour of a food can influence the way it tastes. He found that by changing a drink from yellow to a deep red, it is possible to make it taste up to 12 per cent sweeter than it really is. He said: ‘This colour has strong 6 with very ripe fruit.’

Flavour is not just as simple as the way something tastes, as all the other senses come into 7 and some can dominate the way the brain will 8 a food. Ice cream activates a part of the brain which is just behind the eyes and is where emotions are 9. By melting, it changes its physical 10 and creates contrasts that continually keep your senses interested.

So next time you are in a restaurant or a supermarket, or just sitting down at home to eat something, think about whether your choices have been influenced by sound or colour. You may be surprised!

【题目】DirectionsComplete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

Archaeologists have long thought that stone ships served as graves for one or several individuals, and have even been viewed as death ships 1 to take the dead to living eternally. However, a new study conducted by researchers from the University of Gothenburg shows a different picture. It suggests Bronze Age stone monuments in the form of ships were built by sailors as a symbol of their practices at sea.

The study indicates that the stone ships and the activities that took place there point to people who were 2 focused on practices at sea. Details found within the stone structures show they were built to 3 real ships. The stone ships offer up 4 about the ship-building techniques of the time and about the ships that sailed on the Baltic Sea during the Bronze Age.

“These consist of areas that 5 hill forts and are located near easily 6 points in the landscape—that is, near well-known waterways leading inland,” Wehlin, head of the team, said. “While these areas have previously been thought to be much younger, recent age 7 have dated them to the Bronze Age.”

Archaeologists have believed that bronze was 8 to Scandinavia from the south, and recent analyses have helped confirm this notion. However, the people who distributed the bronze objects are rarely 9 in these thoughts.

“One reason why the meeting places of the Bronze Age are not discussed very often is that we haven’t been able to find them,” Wehlin said. “This is in 10 contrast to the trading places of the Viking Age, which have been easy to locate as they left behind such rich archaeological material.”
