Girls are born to imagine, particularly those at the age of seventeen or eighteen.   16 , I was one of them and sometimes I would go to extremes. That was exactly what happened several days ago, causing me great embarrassment.

I was waiting for my train home at the station when a boy   17  at my side. His beautifully-curved face, his fashionable clothing and everything else about him, was so  18  that I just couldn’t help gazing (注视) at him. What was more   19  was that, he was also stealing some   20  at me, which made me blush (脸红) to the ends of my ears! Still, I tried to be calm and   21  that nothing had happened. However, once again when our eyes met, I could hear my heart   22  wildly, with an inner voice yelling, “Oh, my goodness, he is driving me   23 !” Shortly, I lowered my head to   24  his eyes, but my thoroughly red face had revealed (泄露) 25 .

To my pleasant surprise, my   26  came true this time, as the handsome guy was drawing

27 ! “Oh, please! Don’t   28 . Look at me. I am so sweaty and sloppy (多情的). Please don’t   29  my telephone number. You know I will give it to you without   30 , and that is so unladylike!” I was still struggling and trembling when he   31  right in front of me. “Excuse me...” he said with a slight hesitation. His voice was so nice, but I wish I had not   32  it, for in the end, he said: “I am sorry, but could you please give me my   33  back? Yours is over there.” Oh, my God! Nothing could have been more   34  when I handed his bag back to him, as shame almost brought me to tears.

From that, I drew a big   35 : never imagine too much if someone gives you a few glances.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I’m afraid I have some very bad news for you. I have been very naughty(调皮的) and the school principal(校长) is very angry with me. She is going to write to you. You must come and take me away from here.

The trouble started last night when I was smoking in bed. This is against the rules, of course.

As I was smoking, I heard footsteps coming towards the room. I did not want a teacher to catch me smoking, so I threw the cigarette away.

There was a curtain(窗帘) near the waste-paper basket which caught fire too. Soon the whole room was burning.

The school is a long way from the town and by the time the fire department arrived, the whole school was in flames. Many of the girls are in the hospital.

The principal said that the fire was all my fault and you must pay for the damage.

The principal phoned the fire department.

She doesn’t want me to smoke here.

We are not allowed to smoke at all.

She will send you a bill for about a million dollars.

She does not want me in her school any longer.

Unfortunately, the cigarette fell into the waste-paper basket, which caught fire.

G. The fire spread to another room

April 22,2010 will be the 18th celebration of the annual Take Our Daugluers to Work Day (TOD), a project the National Ms.Foundation for Women of America (NFW) developed to expose girls to expanding opportunities for women in the workplace.
The program offers, millions of girls a first - hand view of the many career opportunities available in their futures. Now that women make up 46 peroent of the U.S.workforce, girls can find role models in every occupational field-from politics to molecular biology to professional athletics, to name just a few.TOD encourages girls to focus on their abilities and opportunities, not just their appearance.
The NFW developed the project more than a decade ago to address the self - esteem problems that many girls experience when they enter adolescence. At school, boys often receive more encouragement in the classroom, especially in math.science and computer science, the academic fields that tend to lead to the highest salaries.Women receive on average only 73 cents for every dollar that men are paid.and remain vastly underrepresented (数量不足) in top executive positions and technology fields.TOD aims to give girls the confidence and inspiration they need to develop successful careers, particularly in non-traditional fields.
Perhaps because the program had become so widespread and successful, TOD had been criticized for excluding boys.and it was expanded in 2003to include boys. The program’s official website states that the program was changed in order to provide both boys and girls with opportunities to explore careers at an age when they are more flexible in tenns of gender stereotyped roles."We should also show boys that becoming a child care provider is as acceptable a choice as becoming a police officer or CEO," added Sara K.Gould.executive director of the NFW.

Flowers only bloom(开花) when they are planted in the right soil. That is also true for me.

I first moved to Foxboro, Massachusetts, as a single mother with my baby daughter, Darcy. I was drawn to its New England beauty, friendly people and rich history. It happened that there were a lot of forsythia(连翘) bushes around the house in which I lived just like my childhood home. I joined St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where I taught the Sunday school. At church, I met my second husband, Dean. For more than 25 years, I bloomed in Foxboro, and I had another two children.

Then, when Darcy was a few years out of college, she moved to Alameda, California, to be near friends. I missed her badly. A year later my beloved husband Dean had deadly cancer. He only made it eight months. My heart was broken. Later I moved to Alameda with my children. It was a beautiful Victorian island, and I was grateful to spend more time with Darcy. I even attended a church and made a few friends there. Still, I couldn’t help but miss Foxboro. It had everything and everyone I loved.

One spring day, when I was walking by a school, something yellow caught my eyes. Forsythia bushes! They made me homesick and I kept back my tears. “I miss you, Foxboro,” I whispered. Then I went into a shop and looked at some ceramic(陶瓷的) pots lined up on a shelf. A large white one seemed to catch my attention. “That’ll be perfect in my living room,” I thought.

I turned it over to look at the price. Instead I found these words: “New England Pottery, Foxboro, Massachusetts.” A piece of artwork, from my second hometown, was right here. It was able to spread across the country and so were forsythia bushes. I took it as a sign that I can bloom, right where I am.

1.From the text we learn that the author ____.

A.gave birth to three children in Foxboro

B.planted forsythia bushes around her house

C.got to know her second husband at church

D.worked as a middle school teacher in Foxboro

2.The author moved to Alameda so that she could ____.

A.have more time together with Darcy

B.forget the sorrow at her husband’s death

C.visit her children at Alameda College frequently

D.enjoy the beautiful scenery on the Victorian island

3.When the author saw forsythia bushes at a school she _____.

A.wanted to buy a ceramic pot to put them in

B.thought of her life in Foxboro

C.felt they would look great in her living room

D.believed they were real art work

4.Why does the author compare herself to flowers?

A.Because she wanted to show she likes flowers.

B.Because she can live in any place that is right like flowers.

C.Because she moved across the country just like flowers.

D.Because girls are like flowers that are blooming.
