A schoolgirl saved her father's life by kicking him in the chest after he suffered a serious allergic (¹ýÃôµÄ) reaction which stopped his heart.
Izzy, nine, restarted father Colm's heart by stamping (²È) on his chest after he fell down at home and stopped breathing.
Izzy's mother, Debbie, immediately called 999 but Izzy knew doctors would never arrive in time to save her father, so decided to use CPR.
However, she quickly discovered her arms weren't strong enough, so she stamped on her father's chest instead.
Debbie then took over with some more conventional chest compressions (°´Ñ¹) until the ambulance arrived.
Izzy, who has been given a bravery award by her school, said: "I just kicked him really hard. My mum taught me CPR but I knew I wasn't strong enough to use hands. I was quite scared. The doctor said I might as well be a doctor or a nurse. My mum said that Dad was going to hospital with a big footprint on his
"She's a little star," said Debbie, "i was really upset but Izzy just took over. I just can't believe what she did. I really think all children should be taught first aid. Izzy did CPR then the doctor turned up. Colm had to have more treatment on the way to the hospital and we've got to see an expert."
Truck driver Colm, 35, suffered a mystery allergic reaction on Saturday and was taken to hospital, but was sent home only for it to happen again the next day. The second attack was so serious that his airway swelled, preventing him from breathing, his blood pressure dropped suddenly, and his heart stopped for a moment.
He has now made a full recovery from his suffering.

One night, when I was eight , my mother gently asked me a question I would never forget. ¡°Sweetie, my company wants to 1me but needs me to work in Brazil. This is like your teacher telling that you've done 2 and allowing you to skip a grade(Ìø¼¶), but you'll have to 3 your friends. Would you say yes to your teacher?¡± She gave me a hug and asked me to think about it. I was puzzled. The question kept me 4 for the rest of the night I had said ¡°yes¡± but for the first time, I realized the5decisions adults had to make.
For almost four years, my mother would call us from Brazil every day. Every evening I'd 6 wait for the phone to ring and then tell her every detail of my day. A phone call, however, could never replace her 7and it was difficult not to feel lonely at times.
During my fourth-grade Christmas break, we flew to Rio to visit her. Looking at her large 8 apartment, I became 9 how lonely my mother must have been in Brazil herself. It was then10 I started to appreciate the tough choices she had to make on 11 family and work. 12difficult decisions, she used to tell me, you wouldn't know whether you make the right choice, but you could always make the best out of the situation, with passion and a 13attitude.
Back home , I 14 myself that what my mother could do, I could, too. If she 15 to live in Rio all by herself, I, too, could learn to be 16 . I learn how to take care of myself and set high but achievable17.
My mother is now back with us. But I will never forget what the 18 has really taught me. Sacrifices 19 in the end. The separation between us has proved to be 20 for me.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Good afternoon, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one. Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws.

The first one is about drinking. Now, you may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age, nor may your friends buy it for you.

Secondly, noise, Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don't make unnecessary noise, particularly at night. We ask you to respect other people who may wish to be quiet.

My Stay in New York
After graduation from university, I had been unable to secure a permanent job in my small town. So I decided to leave home for New York,I might have a better chance to find a good job. (earn) some money to pay the daily expenses, I started work in a local caf¨¦ as a waiter. I believe that30£® I was offered a good position, I would resign at once.
Over time, the high cost of living became a little burden on my already (exhaust) shoulder. On the other hand, my search for a respectable job had not met with much success. As I had studied literature at university, I found it quite difficult to secure a suitable job in big companies. Mother had just said that I want to have a better career advancement, I had to find work in the city. Perhaps my mother had told me was deeply rooted in my mind. I just did as she had expected.
Soon I had lived in the city for over six months but I still did not like it. Apparently, I had difficulty (adapt) myself to life in the city, let alone finding a job to my delight. After nine months of frustration, I eventually decided to go back to my small town. Not until I returned I realize that a quiet town life was the best for me.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿When many people think about planting a tree, they do not realize that there are several things that they need to consider. You can¡¯t simply just dig a single hole, throw the tree into that space, and expect it to grow without any disease. ¡¾1¡¿

The first thing that you need to take into account is the time of year that you are looking to plant the tree in. Believe it or not, in order to plant a tree that will stay alive and be able to survive, you have to plant it at the time of year that is right for the tree. ¡¾2¡¿ The burning sun during these periods of time will cause a big amount of stress of the tree, which will then lead to its death. ¡¾3¡¿

¡¾4¡¿ You should choose a suitable region and climate for the tree. If you decide to plant a tree that is not a native of a particular climate, you need to consider different factors about the tree such as the growth habits of the tree and how much tolerance the tree has to different weather conditions.

¡¾5¡¿ Sometimes in cases where people will be digging deep holes to plant a tree, they need to make sure that they are not digging around the phone lines that may be buried below the surface. Among other things, the hole determines if the tree can survive.

A. Normally you should never plant a tree in late spring or summer.

B. When digging a hole for a tree, you¡¯d better dig as deep as possible.

C. You should then look at the place where you plan to plant the tree in.

D. The best time to consider planting your tree is around autumn or early spring.

E. The tree will not only be planted but will continue to grow well for years to come.

F. The next thing that you need to know is whether there are requirements where you¡¯ll dig.

G. There are a few basic things that you need to do in order to make sure the tree grows healthily.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Israel has passed a law banning the use of underweight models in advertising. Known as the ¡°Photoshop Law¡±, it also requires that agencies tell their audience if they¡¯ve digitally changed pictures to make models look thinner.

The new law forbids the use of models with a body mass index of 18.5 or less, a standard based on internationally accepted measures. The figure matches the set of fixed limits by the U. S. Department of Health.

The law doesn¡¯t set a money amount that can be gained in court from such a suit. Lawmakers realize that it may be a long and difficult process to prove in court that a company broke the new law, but they feel that simply having the law in place will accomplish what they want; stopping advertising companies from continuing to influence Israelis with images of unhealthy-looking models as the gold standard of beauty.

Some modeling agencies in Israel aren¡¯t happy. They say that the indexes on which the law is based are arbitrary (ÈÎÒâµÄ)and are not suitable for every model. Many models who are totally healthy girls might be disqualified because of the law. Some models are naturally thin and unable to gain weight and the new law would unfairly prevent them from finding jobs.

However, plus-size American supermodel Emme told CNN that she thinks the law will cause other countries to make similar measures against showing underweight models. ¡°I think this is fantastic because so many young women and men are suffering to look in a way that is unrealistic and unhealthy,¡± she said.

¡¾1¡¿What is ¡°Photoshop Law¡± about?

A. Banning the use of underweight models.

B. Banning underweight models in advertising.

C. Banning changing pictures digitally.

D. Banning models in advertising.

¡¾2¡¿The underlined word ¡°suit¡± in Paragraph 3 means .

A. a set of clothing

B. a group of rooms

C. an action in court

D. a performance in advertising

¡¾3¡¿What can we know from the passage?

A. All models are happy about the law.

B. All advertising agencies are happy about the law.

C. The law makes no sense.

D. There are arguments over the beauty standard of models.
