Last Saturday I went to the library as usually. At about noon, I was enjoying my reading near a lake while suddenly I hear someone crying for help. I went up to see what was happened. I was shocking to find a little child struggling in the water in the distance while many peoples were standing by without doing anything. Without any hesitation, I had pushed through the crowd as I took off my coat, but jumped into the water quickly. I managed to reach him and carried him back to safety. To his great relief, the kid was saved.
I am proud what I did. I hope everyone can give a hand when someone else is in need.

I¡¯m Li Hua, a senior three student in our school. Last Monday I received three America students. We had a wonderful time. And I tasted the pleased feeling of friendship.

In the afternoon, after divided into two groups, we began to work for the coming English speech context. Just as I was wondering what to do next, I saw a familiar figure passed by our classroom. It was my English teacher. I wondered that he would say. He said that it was a competition that everyone would like to take part in it. He added that was pretty fluent with English, but I needed to arrange my time good.

In the evening, at about half past ten, we finished working. I don¡¯t know the result, but I¡¯m sure without our help, winning the championship will be the effort.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Amazing Facts About Elf Owls

Brief Introduction

The elf owl (a kind of owl) is mostly found in the southwestern parts of the United States and Mexico. During the spring and summer seasons, it moves to Arizona and New Mexico. It returns to Mexico for the winter. The elf owl doesn¡¯t build its nest. It lives in tree holes.

Features

The elf owl is a yellow bird. Its wings are dark and about .48-61 centimeters long. Its eyes are bright yellow. Its feet are large. It is the smallest owl of the species. It is about 12.5-14.5 centimeters long. It is also the world¡¯s lightest owl, weighing not more than 40 grams. In general, female elf owls weigh more than male ones.

The female usually lays three eggs at a time. After the young elf owls are born£¬their mother will feed them with worms(Èä³æ) for up to 3-4 weeks. After 10 weeks, the young ones are fully grown and ready to take flight.

Living Habits

The elf owls are not aggressive birds. When danger comes, they will fly away in the other direction, rather than stay and fact the danger or the enemies. Besides flying£¬the elf owl can also walk and climb like a parrot. The elf owl is most active after dusk£¬during the night, and just before dawn. It can produce many different kinds of sounds. It can live for 3-6 years in the wild. If they are kept in cages, they can live for 10-14 years. The elf owls are now in danger because of the loss of habitat. Cutting down trees will result in lack of places for them to live in.

He was once referred to as the Picasso of poetry. Beloved by Chileans of all classes, he is one of the most widely read and respected poets in history. And this year is the 100th birthday of Pablo Neruda (1904-1973).
Born with the name Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basolto, he was a tall, shy and lonely boy. He loved to read and started to write poetry when he was ten. The American poet Walt Whitman, whose framed picture Neruda later kept on his table, became a major influence on his work.
However, his father did not like the idea of having a poet for a son and tried to discourage him from writing. To cover up the publication of his first poem, he took the pen name Pablo Neruda.
In 1924 Neruda gained fame with his most widely read work ¡°Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair'. Yet his rich experience as a diplomat and exile made him go beyond the theme of love. His work also reflected the political struggle of the left and development of South America. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971.
Neruda loved the sea which he saw as creative, destructive and forever moving. He found inspiration in the power and freedom of the waves and the seabirds on the coast. ¡°I need the sea because it teaches me,¡± he wrote. ¡°I move in the university of the waves.¡± He loved how the sea forever renewed itself, a renewal echoed in his work.

The gray-haired lady can't wait to leave the building to search for her dad. Unless watched, she will walk in the streets in an effort to find her father, who died 30 years ago.
Not all cases of Alzheimer's disease look like this, but Alzheimer's is a serious disease that is said to be the fourth or fifth leading cause of death for people over age 75. It is said that about three percent of the U.S. population over age 65 have Alzheimer's. In the early stages; people may exhibit short-term memory loss. Some may experience changes in personality, easy to be angry. As the disease progresses, patients might lose the ability to move and may be unable to speak or move at all. This progressive disease generally lasts 8 to 10 years before death occurs.
While no one is certain what causes these changes in the brain's nerve fibers, their effect is certain. Alzheimer's destroys not only the patients, but also spouses£¨Åäż£©, friends and families.
What should you do if you notice progressive memory loss in yourself or a loved one? Have the person examined by a doctor who is a specialist in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Though many reasons other than Alzheimer's disease may cause memory loss, its early diagnosis£¨Õï¶Ï£©and treatment may delay some of the most serious effects.
What feeling will you likely experience if a loved one suffers from Alzheimer's disease? A person will often go through the various stages of sadness, shock, anger, and so on. If the spouse develops the disease, you may experience hurt and disappointment when he or she doesn't remember you are married.
Life for the Alzheimer's patients and their loved ones will never be the same as the disease progresses, bringing a deep sorrow, loss and even anger towards God. No matter what feelings are present, facing them honestly will serve one better than burying them.
£¨1£©What can be inferred from the passage about the gray-haired day?
A.She has been living with her father.
B.She suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
C.She can't search for her father without being watched.
D.She was sad about the death of her father.
£¨2£©When people suffer from Alzheimer's disease, ________.
A.their families and friends will experience mental sufferings
B.their families and friends will suffer from the same disease
C.they will certainly die in 8 to 10 years
D.they will forget everybody but their spouses
£¨3£©Memory loss occurs ________.
A.from Alzheimer's disease and nothing else
B.for a number of reasons
C.from sadness, shock, anger, and so on
D.with changes in personality
£¨4£©From the passage we know that .
A.early treatment may stop Alzheimer's disease occurring
B.when one suffers from Alzheimer's disease, he will be buried
C.nerve fibers in the brain will cause Alzheimer's disease
D.it is still unknown what causes the changes in the brain's nerve fibers
