【答案】Dear Tom,

Time flies! It’s been half a year since you returned to America. How is everything going on with your life and study now?

I intend to recommend an original English classic to help students in our school broaden their vision and enrich their minds. Classic books provide profound ideas, showing us the right attitude toward life. To be frank, I find it challenging to select a suitable one. Would you please give me your advice? Hopefully, you will list some works with respective features.

I am grateful and looking forward to your early reply!

Yours,

Li Hua

【题目】Ways to Stop Doubting Yourself

What if I don't pass this test? Are my friends just hanging out with me because they feel bad for me? 1 Stop! The self-doubt stops right here. Here are some ways to beat the negative self-talk and start believing in yourself.

●Be Aware.

The first step towards overcoming anything is to become aware of it. By becoming aware that we are doubting ourselves, we can sooner confirm it and put a stop to it. As we realize our self-doubt, we will get quicker at confirming and stopping it. See? 2

●Take a Break.

Sometimes it is our mind that goes against us. Whenever you find yourself having doubts, take a break.

3 Ask yourself what made you get into this goal. It will get you to realize why you started it in the first place.

5 Find support through friends and read other inspirational websites. Sometimes we all need to hear something that will get us moving again. We just need to reach out to others who understand us.

【题目】 1 One day, when I was perhaps six years old, I was walking with my father on a crowded street. All of a sudden, the normal flow of pedestrian traffic backed up as people tried to avoid a large object on the sidewalk. To my astonishment, the object turned out to be a human being, a man lying unconscious against a building. 2 Certainly no one made eye contact. As we walked by ,my father — the model of a loving, caring gentleman — pointed to a bottle in a paper bag and told me that the poor soul on the sidewalk just needed to sleep it off. Then the drunken man began to murmur senselessly. My father warned me not to go near, saying "You never know how he’ll react."

3 I had spent the previous 12 months traveling in poor Asian cities, but even by those standards this was a scene of misery. In addition to being desperately poor, the locals had to live in the extremely hot climate, ridiculously huge crowds and a fairly strong wind blowing dust everywhere. Suddenly a man carrying a huge bag of peanuts called out in pain and fell to the ground. 4 A half dozen sellers ran from their stands to help, leaving unattended what might have been the totality of their possessions. One put a blanket under the man's head; another opened his shirt; a third questioned him carefully about the pain; a fourth fetched water; a fifth kept onlookers from crowding around too closely; a sixth ran for help.5 The performance could have passed for a final exam at a paramedic (护理人员)school.

A.I then witnessed an astonishing scene.

B.Not one of the passers-by seemed to notice that it was a man.

C.This was totally different from the bitter experience I had in New York.

D.Within minutes, a doctor arrived, and two other locals joined in to assist.

E.I soon came to see that day's lesson as basic knowledge for a New Yorker.

F.I'll always remember a lesson that I learned as a boy growing up in New York City.

G.Yet many years later I had a very different experience while visiting a market in Rangoon.

It’s 1 long-term question for teachers: 2 do you get children who hate physical activity to take part in PE lessons? A Northampton primary school believes it has the answer.3(Design) to make the least active pupils take an interest in their fitness, a program 4(introduce) at Lings Primary School recently. In 8, the children try to maintain their balance on the boards made of rubber, all of which stretch their muscles and improve fitness.
