【题目】In agrarian(农业的), pre-industrial Europe, youd want to wake up early, start working with the sunrise, have a break to have the largest meal, and then youd go back to work, says Ken Albala, a professor of history at the University of the Pacific. Later, at 5 or 6, youd have a smaller supper.

This comfortable cycle, in which the rhythms of the day helped shape the rhythms of the meals, gave rise to the custom of the large midday meal, eaten with the extended family. Meals are the foundation of the family, says Carole Couniban, a professor at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, so there was a very important interconnection between eating together and strengthening family ties.”

Since industrialization, maintaining such a slow cultural metabolism has been much harder, with the long midday meal shrinking to whatever could be stuffed into a lunch bucket or bought at a food stand. Certainly, there were benefits. Modern techniques for producing and shipping food led to greater variety and quantity, including a tremendous increase in the amount of animal protein and dairy products available, making us more energetic than our ancestors.

Yet plenty has been lost too, even in cultures that still live to eat. Take Italy. Its no secret that the Mediterranean diet is healthy, but it was also a joy to prepare and eat. Italians, says Counihan, traditionally began the day with a small meal. The big meal came at around 1 p.m. In between the midday meal and a late, smaller dinner came a small snack. Today, when time zones have less and less meaning, there is little tolerance for offices closing for lunch, and worsening traffic in cities means workers cant make it home and back fast enough anyway. So the formerly small supper after sundown becomes the big meal of the day, the only one at which the family has a chance to get together. The evening meal carries the full burden that used to be spread over two meals,” says Counihan.

1What does Professor Carole Counihan say about pre-industrial European families eating meals together

3What does the author think of the food people eat today?

B. It is varied, abundant and nutritious.

C. It is more costly than what our ancestors ate.

D. Its production depends too much on technology.

4What does the author say about Italians of the old days?

A. They enjoyed cooking as well as eating.

B. They ate a big dinner late in the evening.

C. They ate three meals regularly every day.

D. They were expert at cooking meals.

Pace of life生活的步伐

Meals are the foundation of the family, says Carole Couniban, a professor at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, so there was a very important interconnection between eating together and strengthening family ties.”

Modern techniques for producing and shipping food led to greater variety and quantity, including a tremendous increase in the amount of animal protein and dairy products available, making us more energetic than our ancestors.

Take Italy. Its no secret that the Mediterranean diet is healthy, but it was also a joy to prepare and eat可知,古代的意大利人既喜欢吃饭,也喜欢做饭。故选A。

Researchers have shown that your talent for happiness is, to a large degree, determined by your genes(基因). We can do this by overcoming negative emotions and developing positive emotions.
Strategy(策略)1:
The first step is to make a choice to be happy. In Seeking Happiness, Bertrand Russell said, “Happiness must be an achievement rather than a gift of the gods, and in this achievement, effort must play a great part.”
Once you've decided to be happier, you can choose strategies for achieving happiness.
Strategy 2: Develop gratitude(感激).
In Authentic Happiness, psychologist Martin Seligman encourages readers to perform a daily “gratitude exercise”.
Strategy 3: Remember, money can't buy happiness.
Research shows: Yes, “we always think that some things are wrong because they cannot bring us happiness.” writes Daniel Gilbert in Stumbling on Happiness.
Strategy 4: Take part in meaningful activities.
“People are seldom happier,” says Jackson, “than when they’re doing meaningful activities.”
Yet, he has found that the most common leisure(休闲)activity — watching TV — produces some of the lowest levels of happiness. Active leisure that helps a person grow does not come easily, he writes in Finding Flow.
A. Choose to be happy.
B. Seek happiness.
C. However, psychologists believe we can pursue happiness.
D. This drives bitterness from our heart, and promotes happiness.
E. Happiness is decided by many things.
F. To get more out of life, we need to put more into it.
G. More money doesn't often bring more happiness.

You don't need superpowers to commit to being healthier.Check out these tips.

Write it and measure it.1Writing down your goals is not only a great way to accomplish them, but your list can also help you figure out the exact steps needed to get there."I want to lose weight"is a pretty common resolution(方案),but how exactly do you go from point A to point B?2For instance:"I want to lose 10 pounds over the next six weeks by going to the gym three to four times per week."

Make resolutions manageable.A resolution shouldn't be a fantasy. The key to sustainable resolutions is to make small changes gradually. So if your goal is to go from never running to finishing a half-marathon,start training gradually.3.

4Not knowing how to do a certain exercise is no excuse to write it off completely. If you're curious about new techniques, book a session with a personal trainer to clear up confusion and help prevent injury.

Think outside the box.5If your resolution is to simply be more active and bum more calories every day, there are plenty of creative ways to achieve that goal. You can fit extra movement into the day by walking during phone conversations or even volunteering for household chores.

A.Ask for help.

B.Choose the right tech.

C.Instead, try setting a more specific goal.

D.Exercise doesn't have to be a formal activity.

E.Resolutions should be both specific and measurable.

F.Begin by walking a few miles, and steadily increase it to jogging, and then running.
