8.Talking to yourself may seem a little shameful.But there's no need for embarrassment.Talk to ourselves,whether out loud r silently in our heads,is a valuable tool for thought.Far from being a sign of mental illness,self-talk allows us to plan what we are going to do,manage our activities,and regulate our emotions.
Take a trip to any preschool and watch a small child playing with her toys.You are very likely to hear her talking to herself:offering herself directions and giving voice to her frustrations.Psychologists refer to this as private speech:language that is spoken out loud but directed at the self.
Self-talk has many advantages.If you want proof,turn on the sports channel.You're bound to see an athlete preparing himself with a quick phrase or scolding himself after a bad shot.Andy Murray owed his 2012US Open victory to a self-talk he gave himself in front of a changing-room mirror.Gymnastics starLaurie Hernandez in Rio.The athletes are doing it for good reason:Self-talk has been shown to bring benefits in sports as diverse as badminton,darts and wrestling.
Those of us who lack the talent of a Hernandez or a Murray are also likely to talk to ourselves aloud,particularly when the task is difficult and the conditions stressful.Conducting a dialogue with ourselves--asking questions of the self and providing answers--seem to be a particularly good way of solving problems and working through ideas.Both kinds of self-talk--the silent and the vocal-seem to bring a range of benefits to our thinking.

A user fixes the motorized skates on to their shoes,and then you can go at the speed of up to 16 kilometers per hour.The futuristic(未来派的) shoes are the brainchild of Peter Treadway,a Los Angeles-based industrial designer.Treadway holds degrees in industrial design,including one from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design,but he said his interest in fashion contributed to the development of the motorized shoes.
"I've been developing some form of wearable transportation since the 1990s.I was going to lunch one day and couldn't find a place to park,"he said."I thought‘Why don't I make something that could get me from home to someplace really close by?'"
Treadway said each shoe has a battery and a motor and they can work together as"sort of mirrors of each other".The rechargeable battery allows the wearer to go about three to five kilometers on a single charge and needs about two to three hours to fully juice up again.
A handheld wireless remote controller which is smaller than a deck of cards controls the speed of shoes."It's very simple,"Treadway said.
Not everyone finds the shoes easy to use at first,however.Training wheels are provided to take the pain out of the learning process.
"To achieve some skills could take you anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours,"Treadway said, depending on the individual.
Some of the money for the spnKiX was raised on Kickstarter,a website which collects donations for creative projects.With the help of Kickstarter,Treadway said,the shoes were made by his Los Angeles-based company,Acton Inc.,which will begin shipping in March and will sell for $649a pair.
