1.Advertising gives useful information about which products to buy.But modern advertising does more than gives news about products and services.Today's advertisements,or ads,try to get consumers to buy certain brands.Writers of advertising are so skillful that they can,sometimes persuade a consumer to wear a certain kind of clothing,eat a special kind of cereal,or see a movie.Consumers might never even want a product if they did not see or hear advertisements for it.
For example,you probab1y do not need the newest cereal in the supermarket.There are probably many cereal brands on your kitchen shelves.You may not have space on a shelf for another.But if you see ads about a new cereal that is your extra-tasty and has a free prize in the box,you may want it.
Advertising must get attention.To be effective,it must be exciting,entertaining,or provide some pleasure.The secret of writing good advertising copy is to offer a good idea as well as a product.The idea is what the ad is really selling.One example is an ad that says eating a certain cereal will make a person do well in sports.That cereal brand may sell better if consumers think it offers strength and energy.

21.What is discussed in this passage?B
A.The content of modern advertising.
B.The skills of modern advertising.
C.The results of modern advertising.
D.The writing of modern advertising.
22.According to the passage,a good advertisement shouldA.
A.be both persuasive and effective
B.give people useful information
C.show people a product
D.show people a new idea of a product
23.From the passage,we know thatD.
A.modern advertising has less effect on customers
B.once customers see ads about a new cerea1,they are sure to buy it
C.cereal can make people strong
D.cereal is a kind of food which is popular among people
24.What can we infer from the passage?A
A.Customers can easily be persuaded by advertisements.
B.Customers should be persuaded by advertisements.
C.It's impossible for customers to buy a product without advertisements.
D.Customers buy products according to their demands rather than the advertisements.

11.
A.Independence leading to family breakup
B.Women's easy and convenient life in USA
C.No marriage for many people nowadays
D.Average American families getting small
E.Full freedom for young women
F.Divorce---a social problem in USA
76.F
Marriage,like other social instructions,is showing the strains of modern life.While more Americans are getting married today than ever before,the divorce rate is also disturbingly on the rise( one divorce for every three marriages last year).Why should this be so,and what,if anything,can we do to reverse this trend?
77.B
For most people,life is easier and more comfortable than ever before.Convenience foods from the supermarket simplify shopping and cooking.Household appliances like the vacuum cleaner and the washing machine have made housework much easier to do.Released from these household chores,many wives have found jobs outside the home.Women are achieving economic independence.
78.D
Families,too,are simpler today.In American,it is not customary for parents to live with their married children.With our greater mobility,relatives have scattered,the parents retiring to Florida or Arizona and the young people,after they marry,going wherever their jobs or their interests take them.
79.E
Young adult women have new freedom,too.While attending college,they often live away from home,sometimes far from their parents or their relatives.After college,they move to the city,find a job,and set up"bachelor"apartment.This is the era of women's liberation.
80.A
But all this freedom and affluence have had an unforeseen and in some respects a devastating effect on marriage.Men and women,no longer dependent on each other for food and maintenance,find it harder to accept the responsibilities and restraints or endurance the misunderstandings of married life.When happiness becomes misery,many couples decide to terminate their marriage through divorce.On the other hand,there is a growing trend today for couples in trouble to try to save their marriage by consulting a professional counselor.He listens patiently while they talk,knowing that only through self-understanding can they solve their problems.

Well,I had nothing against feeling great and if Alex could jog every day,anyone could.So I took up jogging seriously and gave it a good two months of my life,and not a day more.Based on my experience,jogging is the most overvalued form of exercise around,and judging from the number of the people who left our neighborhood jogging army.I'm not alone in my opinion.
First of all,jogging is very hard on the body.Your legs and feet a real pounding(沉重的脚步) ruining down a road for two or three miles.I developed foot,leg,and back problems.Then I read about a nationally famous jogger who died of a heart attack while jogging,and I had something else to worry about.Jogging doesn't kill hundreds of people,but if you have any physical weaknesses,jogging will surely bring them out,as they did with me.

And how could I enjoy something that brought me pain?And that wasn't just the first week-it was practically every day for two months.I never got past the pain level,and pain isn't fun.What a cruel way to do it!So many other exercises,including walking,lead to almost the same results painlessly,so why jog?
I don't jog any more,and I don't think I ever will.I'm walking two miles three times a week at a fast pace,and that feels good.I bicycle to work when the weather is good.I'm getting exercise,and I'm enjoying it at the same time.I could never say the same for jogging,and I've found a lot of better ways to stay in shape.

56. From the first paragraph,we learn that in the writer's neighborhoodA.
A. jogging became very popular
B. people jogged only during the daytime
C. Alex organized an army of joggers
D. jogging provided a chance to get together
57. The underlined word"them"(Paragraph 3)most probably refers toD.
A. heart attacks  B. back problems  C. hundreds of people  D. physical weaknesses
58. From the writer's experience,we can conclude thatC.
A. jogging can help people keep fit
B. many physical problems result from jogging
C. not everyone enjoys jogging
D. jogging makes people feel greater.

9.Many of us enjoy doing it:you turn on the camera on your mobile phone and hold it at a high angle, making your eyes look bigger and your cheekbones more defined. You turn to your best side and click. There it is-your selfie.
Over the past year,"selfie"has become a well-known term across the globe. This August the Oxford dictionary added the word to their online dictionary and defined it as:"A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and up-loaded to a social media website."
Today it's not difficult to find social networking pages full of photos people have taken of themselves and their friends. And selfie culture has become especially relevant for young people. As many as 91 percent of teenagers have posted photos of themselves online, according to a recent survey by the US Pew Research Center.

6.Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that,do you suppose?Wouldn't you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me,I'd like to say,men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth-women are queens of the road.
Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea as to where they are going. We don't drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find ourselves heading in the wrong direction.Have you ever be in a car with a man who is lost?He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he's made another wrong turn.
Speeding is what men do best on the road.Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because we trick to get out of tickets but only because we don't get pulled over as frequently. We don't speed. We have more intelligence than senselessly to put our own lives as well as the lives of others in danger.
My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible, and they're totally lost into loud music beyond a necessary level. You don't ever see women driving like that.
I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are not only better drivers but also safer drivers than men.We women rule the road.Oh,and men,if you want to continue criticizing (批评) women for being bad drivers, bring it on.We know you lack confidence,or else you wouldn't be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.

10.We often see wind-horse flags in Tibetan areas. They are long cloths on which pictures of horses and scriptures(经文)are printed.People often put these flags on top of houses,or leave them where a vehicle accident happened. They prevent evil spirits from injuring people again.
A wind-horse flag can be white, yellow, red, green or blue. These five colors symbolize the five elements that form the world; earth, water, fire, wind and sky.Another explanations that red is the sun, green is the grassland, yellow is the earth, blue is the sky,and white is the cloud.
