    "Yes sir，"the private answered．"But it was worth it because when I got to him，he was still alive，and I had the satisfaction of hearing him say，'Jim，I knew you'd come．'"

    Risking his life in a battle，a soldier，turning a deaf ear to his captain's advice，insisted on bringing hislifelong friend back from"No Man's Land"despite the fact he was probably dead，which，in his view，was worth the risk．
