George Bernard Shaw did not care much about his clothes. When he was young he couldn't pay for good clothes. When he was older, he didn't want to. Later in his life he was glad to dress differently from other men. When they dress evening dress to an evening party, he didn't. And he went to the theater in an old coat, too. The coat was made of a kind of cloth that he liked.
One evening, Bernard Shaw was invited to go to a party. Because many important person would go to the party, too, the audience(group of people listening to a singer, play, etc) were expected to wear evening dress. But Shaw was still in that old coat. So at the door of the theater he was stopped.
“What's the matter?” Shaw asked the doorkeeper. The doorkeeper smiled and pointed to his old coat.
“Don't you like it?” Shaw cried, “If not, I will take it off.”
And with these words, he took off his coat and went straight towards his seat, but the doorkeeper followed him and showed sadly, “Stop! Stop! You can't go in like that!”
Shaw was angry and he turned round. “Don't you want me to take off my shirt, too?” he cried.
