【答案】Dear Mr. Simon,
Hello! How time flies! I have already returned to China for nearly two months. But it is still wonderful for me to recall the pleasant experience during the two-week England Summer Camp in the UK.
Firstly and most importantly, I want to express my gratitude to you when I think of the wonderful two weeks in UK. It is your considerate arrangement that makes it convenient and comfortable for me to live, study and travel in UK.
Furthermore, I have learned a lot, not just of the English language but also of your diverse culture. What impresses me most is your hospitality and humour, and so does your delicious traditional food. Last but not least, the scenery there is definitely gorgeous.
Hardly can any word express my appreciation for your kindness and help. I do faithfully hope you can pay a visit to China soon. And I hope we can keep in touch.
Yours,
Li Hua

Cotton farmers in some Indian villages are busily buying Coca Cola and Pepsi, believing that the sugar in the fizzy (有泡沫的) drinks kills pests.
Farmers say scientists advised them to mix pesticides with a sugary juice to control pests, and they found the mixture cheaper and more effective than pure chemicals — although soft drink makers and scientists dismissed the remarks. N. Hamunayya, who has become a famous person in his village in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh, said his crop survived an attack of pests which had resisted other pesticides. “We found that all the colas had uniform effect on pests. The pests became dead and fell to the ground,” he said. He said the drinks had all the elements they needed: they were cheaper, sticky, fizzy, and attracted ants, which ate the young of the pests. But Thinupathi Reddy, assistant director of the Regional Agri Research Station, Guntur, says tests had proved such results wrong. “We conducted some field trials on cotton crop at our research station. There was no obvious productivity or destruction of pests,” he says.
Statements from Pepsi and Coca Cola said there was “no scientific basis” for this_practice. But their dealers are enjoying increasing sales. Mantan Wall, who sells soft drinks in 17 villages in the region, said sales rose up, thanks to the farmers. “For the 10 days between August and September I had successful business. Instead of just 30 cases (each containing a dozen one litre bottles) of cola, I started selling almost 200 cases,” he said. “We expected the sales to drop after the news over pesticide residues (残留) in the cola drinks. Now I have to keep extra supply for the cotton farmers,” he said.
In February, an Indian environment group made a report saying drinks made by Coca Cola and Pepsi contained pesticides and called for tougher safety standards. The US firms strongly rejected the findings of the New Delhibased Centre for Science and Environment and said their products were safe.

A.there is some pesticide left in them
B.they are sticky and fizzy

A.thought it went against science
B.believed that the farmers didn't tell the truth
C.might fear that it could bring harm to their business
D.insisted that no poison was left in their products
【4】The writer's purpose of writing this passage is to ________.
A.tell an interesting incident
B.warn people that some drinks might be dangerous to health
C.suggest using Coca Cola to kill pests

“One City One Book” is a generic name (通称) for a community reading program that attempts to get everyone in a city to read and discuss the same book.Popular book picks have been Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird,Ernest Gaines’s A Lesson Before Dying, and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.
“One City One Book” programs take the idea of a localized book discussion club and expand it to cover a whole city. The first such program was “If All of Seattle Read the Same Book” in 1998,started by Nancy Pearl at Seattle Public Library’s Washington Center for the Book. The book chosen for the program was The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks, written in 1991.Other cities copied the idea, and the Library of Congress listed 404 programs occurring in 2007.
Each city’s program has its own goals;these typically include building a sense of community and promoting literacy.Nancy Pearl warns against expecting too much from a program:“Keep in mind that this is a library program,it’s not an exercise in civics, and that it’s not intended to have literature cure the racial divide. This is about a work of literature.”
Programs typically involve more than having everyone read the same book. Some other activities that have been included are:book discussion sessions, scholarly lectures on the book or related topics,a visit by the author, exhibits, related arts programming (especially showing a movie of the book if there is one),and integration into school curricula. In Boston the “One City One Story” program used shorter stories and distributed tens of thousands of free copies of the story over the course of a month.
American Library Association puts out a detailed stepbystep guide on how to organize a local program, including the critical step of picking the one book. The Center for the Book at the Library of Congress tracks all known programs and the books they have used.
